THE PLAYER

Hello,
I read your profile several days ago and got very excited about how much you and I are alike. I believe we are soulmates. We have the same interests and beliefs. I am an ordained minister and a doctor of psychology. I prayed about writing you and God told me you are the one. I stay so busy I have no time to find a person in my area to date though, so a friend of mine found your profile and gave it to me, if you are interested please write back soon.
Mitch

Hello, Mitch,
Yes I read your profile and I dont understand how we have not found each other before now. It does seem like we are perfect for each other. I have prayed so long for my soulmate to come to me. I am definitely interested in learning more about you. Please write again soon.
Joan

Dearest Joan,
I have prayed to God before I wrote you back wanting to make sure He is giving me the approval that you are my soulmate and He has told me you are indeed my soulmate. I have waited 16 years to meet you, my beloved. I have not had sex with anyone in all those years, saving myself for when you and I should meet. I am in much need of your affections.
I was so glad to learn from your profile that you have ministerial and counseling abilities as you will be so much help to me in my own counseling practice and ministry.
God told me that my soulmate would be a few years older than me so I want you to know our age difference does not bother me at all. My own father is ten years younger than my mother and they have been happy for fifty years together. I will adore you forever. Please write back soon.
Mitch

Dear Mitch,
How wonderful to know you are a minister and a doctor of psychology? God is sending me exactly what I have always needed, a minister for spiritual support and a psychologist for emotional support. How lucky I am to find you online! The age difference does not bother me either. Here is my phone number if you would like to call me, 555-1234. I will be anxiously awaiting your call.
Joan

My Darling, Joan,
All these lonely years of praying and waiting have now been worth it to find your sweet love waiting for me. I will call you now.
Love,
Mitch

And so began the courtship of Mitch and Joan, two lonely people seeking to find their soulmate online. Joan was a kind, gentle, empathic soul who tried to help others in every way she could. But she was not lucky in love. She had gone through many dysfunctional relationships trying to find Mr. Right but not once had she ever found anyone evenly remotely right for her. She had prayed to God many years to send the right person to her. She told God she would humble herself to Him and accept whomever He sent to her. She did not believe in sex before marriage but this man Mitch seemed to need her so very much. She had heard of players online but she had never actually met one.
Mitch called Joan for hours and talked to her on the phone. He sent her many emails proclaiming his love for her and how she was his soulmate. He made her feel so important in his life. He put his entire life on hold just for her. He urged her to pray about their first meeting. He wanted to do a religious ceremony on them to join them together in the eyes of God as soulmates. They would be in fact married in the eyes of God once this ceremony was done. Joan savored every moment of their conversations. She finally had found a man who could carry on an intelligent conversation with her and seemed to know her innermost thoughts. He always made it very clear to her how much he wanted and desired her, even though they had never met in person. She didn't understand how someone who had never met her could say he desired her. He must truly accept that they are soulmates sent to each other from God. He began writing to Joan on early Wednesday morning, and he had managed to talk her into meeting him on Friday morning. He would drive into her town and spend the day with her and they would see how it went from there.
Joan made all the preparations for Mitch's trip to meet her. She bought extra groceries in case they hit it off and he spent the weekend with her.
She had prayed about it and felt that God had given her His approval that Mitch was indeed her soulmate. At 5 am Friday morning her last doubts were alleviated when she had awoke to feel the most loving Spirit upon her. She felt these words in her mind, Do not fear to take Mitch as your soulmate because the ceremony he will perform will join you together in the eyes of God as man and wife. She was assured that Mitch must be sent to her from God after that.
When they met that morning, she greeted him with a hug and a kiss. Mitch was not what she had thought he would be, but she would humble herself to God and if Mitch was what God had for her then she fully accepted Him as such. Mitch looked at Joan and told her she was even more beautiful than he had expected her to be. He loved everything about her. She was all that he had hoped for and more. He was very happy. They spent the day talking. Mitch said his car had been towed into the repair shop that morning, that was why he drove an old beat up clunker. He had left his suitcase he was bringing just in case they decided to spend the weekend together in his Mercedes and had to borrow a friend's car just to come see her. He hoped Joan would not hold all that against him.
Joan wanted to take a picture of them to start a Memory Book but Mitch said no pictures this time, let's just get to know each other for right now. There would be lots of time for pictures on trips they would make together later.
He got her Bible and read to her from it all during the day and they prayed together and just enjoyed being together. He quoted scriptures to her about love and life. To Joan it seemed like a dream come true. To Mitch it was just another game he was playing to get sex.
As the day grew to an end, Mitch told her she did not have to have sex with him unless that was what she wanted to do. He would never try to force her into anything. He still wanted to perform the ceremony on them though to join them as soulmates. She had to supply the annointing oil as he had left his in his car when it was towed in for repairs. He poured
oil all over her head. It dripped down into her face. She knew this was not the typical way a minister annointed a person.
Yet she accepted it as okay when he said that is the way the Bible says to do it. He had her annoint him with oil but she was very careful not to let it drip all over him. He said a prayer and had her pray too. She asked him if this meant they are really husband and wife now in the eyes of God and he said yes it does. They kissed and he proclaimed his love for her as his wife and soulmate forever. Joan asked Mitch if he intended to treat her as his legal wife now and he said yes he did. He would take care of all her needs from now on. She did not have to worry about anything anymore.
How could she refuse to have sex with this man, who was so willing to meet her needs? She must show him that she wants to meet his needs too. They went into her bedroom. He had waited so long for her love he said. Sixteen years without any sex in his life. Now all he wanted was her love for the rest of their lives. He told her soon they would make it a legal marriage. He just needed a little time to sell his property so he could move to be with her. Joan knew they needed to take more time to get to know each other but here was this man being so sweet and nice to her, how could she refuse him her love? She accepted everything he said as the truth. She gave herself to him without reservation because she truly believed they were soulmates.
Almost immediately after they had sex, Mitch had said they should go clean up. He had run them a bath to share. In the bath, he told her he must go back to his town because his car would be ready to pick up at the shop and his friend must have his borrowed car back that night.
Joan was very disappointed. She had always believed if she ever met her soulmate, they would never part once they met. Somehow now she felt it was all a game to Mitch. And it was! On his drive home he was already planning his next move. He called Joan on his way home and told her she was his wife now and that she must call him anytime she wanted to have sex, and he would come to her. But Joan never did that! She felt something was wrong now. She began to doubt whether she was even a Christian. How could she have done what she just did that quick? She did not even know this man at all. She felt she had just sinned greatly. She was very confused.
Over the next week, his calls and letters grew less and Joan became more frantic. She began to ask herself if he had just used her for sex. The questions began to surface in her mind. She wrote him emails asking for answers but he refused to answer her questions. She finally wrote him and asked him how did she get a spiritual divorce. He would not write her except to say, I love you. She grew more and more frustrated and disappointed. She finally wrote him that she was going to kill herself. That was her last letter to him. She waited for his response to see if he cared at all about her.
Still Mitch did not write her.
Joan did not know how to deal with this type man. Her sensitive nature could not handle the rejection. She prayed that God would forgive her for what she had done and for what she was about to do. Joan committed suicide. Her lonely life ended with no one to mourn for her.
Mitch showed no remorse when he read of her death in the newspaper. She meant nothing to him. She was merely a pawn in the game of life. He had done it many times already to other women and would do it again to many other women online.
Instead, her death gave him the idea of being a widower in his next online profile in order to con his next victim for he was nothing more than a player. Mitch would do anything for another sexual conquest. Legally he was doing nothing wrong, because he never forced any woman to have sex with him. They did it willingly because they believed his lies.
