THE GOOD AMERICAN

If you ask most people do they think they are a good person or not, most of them will tell you, yes, they are good persons.
What makes a person good or bad though? I personally think human nature wants to be bad but the grace of God through Jesus Christ as your personal Savior makes us want to do good and be good. None of us are perfect but we can strive for perfection through Jesus Christ, as He was the only perfect human being ever. This story is about one Christian man who let his actions speak louder than his words. Lots of people profess to be Christians, but only a few possess Christ inside their hearts and truly do His perfect will.
A Mexican who wanted a better life for himself and his family paid his money to some men to get a ride in a dusty, stinky truck, packed to the hilt with other Mexicans wanting a new life in the USA. Juan knew it was not right to come into the country illegally but he trusted God to work things out for him and not let him get into trouble. He had no contacts except Jesus Christ whom he prayed to every day and asked for His guidance.
Thousands of them were carted into cities all over the USA at night and just dumped to find work and places to live. They appeared out of nowhere. No one knew how they got there and if anyone asked any questions, no one could answer them.
This one man was named Juan Perez. Juan was married to his childhood sweetheart. They had two children. He was determined to gain a better life for them all.
He saw a restaurant down the street from where he was dumped by the men in the truck, and walked to it. He asked in broken English if they needed any help in the kitchen.
The owner of the restaurant was a God-fearing man who liked to help people if he could. He realized through his empathic nature this man needed his help.
Luckily for Juan, George Parkos did need some help in his restaurant. He hired Juan on the spot. He would be working for minimum wage but that was wonderful news to Juan. Now all he had to do was find a place to live. He asked George if he knew of a cheap place he could stay.
Again George came to his rescue. He told George there was an empty room in the back of the restaurant he could fix up as his own. It even had its own private bathroom. Juan got down on his knees and gave thanks to God for the kindness of this one man.
George brought a bed and chest and some linens and fixed the room up for Juan. Juan became the hardest worker George had ever hired. Each week when Juan received his paycheck, he would send money to his family back in Mexico. He hoped that soon he could bring them to be with him in America. George felt sorry for Juan having to be apart from his wife and children. Many times they sat and talked after the restaurant had closed. Juan told George all about his beloved family and how someday they would be here with him. George decided that he was going to help Juan bring them to America. He arranged for them to get a green card and a passport and gave money to Juan to send to them to fly to him. He had never seen a grown man cry like Juan did when he gave him the money and told him what it was for. Juan had cried like a baby then hugged George and thanked him for his generosity. He had gotten down on his knees and thanked God for George's kindness. Two weeks later his family was there in the room at the restaurant with him. George knew something had to be done so hat Juan and his wife had some privacy. With kids around all the time in such small quarters there was none. The children were good kids though. They would bus the tables and sweep the floors. One thing George could not say was that any of them were lazy. They were very hard workers. And Juan's wife, Maria, was always in the kitchen working or waiting on tables. So it was a mutual friendship for all involved. They all got something out of helping each other. George's restaurant business was booming and Juan had his family with him. Now he wanted to apply for citizenship for him and his family which would take another five years. George had helped Juan get a green card at the same time he had applied for them for his family. It would be five years when George would hear Juan and his wife take the oath of allegiance to the USA and become citizens of America. He hugged them both and congratulated them on their new citizenship. Both of them told George how they could never have done it without all his kind help. And George knew it was true. He gave thanks to God in his heart that he was able to help this young couple start a new life. They now lived in their own home that George had helped them find and buy. They had a car to drive which George had helped them buy. Sometimes all it takes in life is just one good Christian person to help another person get a good start in life. Is there someone you could help? You never know whom God is letting cross your pathway.
