Here Comes Horses

not really an interpretation, just some random thoughts...

1/22/01, 2/10/01

I heard "Here Comes Horses" in the car after "Forever December" on the way over here. Track 1 - 3 were arranged brilliantly on this CD! The styles are different, but they thematically flow.

I've started to interpret the song. The line about "feeling like the jester when the music dies" displays his feeling of shame that the relationship is over, guilt. This line is a reference to the song "American Pie" by Don McLean. "American Pie" is a song about "the day the music died", the day a plane crashed which was carrying Buddy Holly, Richie Vallens, and The Big Bopper.

The villian of some sorts in the song is the jester, (FYI, most interpretaions of "American Pie" that I've seen say that the jester is Mick Jagger. If you want a much more complete interpretation of American Pie, check out this page. I think that understanding the song "American Pie" would help better understand "Here Comes Horses", because I think Rob draws many parallels, besides the aforementioned.

"Feeling kind of shaky, but the wounds have healed" = he's still in shock.
