Halloween Hostel Week-End (Oct. 2000)

A large representation of Shankill Scouts and Ventures took part in a very enjoyable Hostel Week-End. We used An Oige Youth Hostel in Knockree, Enniskerry . It was one very packed Hostle as we had the pleasure of sharing accommodation with an energetic bunch of C.S.I. Ventures from Templeogue and a Troop of C.S.I Scouts from Blachardstown. Friday was a long night with very little in the way of sleep , a special thanks to the "Night Owls".

Saturday's weather was a treat , cold , wet , windy , in a word bleak . But this did not deter the boys and girls from shankill enjoying a good days hike in the Foothills of Wicklow. We trekked along the well known Wicklow Way route , through Crone Woods and along the Lord's Walk , stopping briefly for a photo shoot using the spectacular views of the Powerscourt waterfall as the background . The remainder of thehiketook us over Maulin on the sheltered side and down the hill via the shortest route back to Crone and in turn Knockree.

The feature event of the Week-End was the Fancy Dress Party. Everyone of the Scouts and Leaders made great efforts with their costumes. The evening started with a Pumpkin carving session , which proved most enjoyable and successful. Five different carvings were created . Well done to all. A sweets and drinks party followed as a treat . The evening was finished off in style as the Blanchardstown and Shankill Scouts joined forces for a fireworks display followed by an eerie ghost story session .

The fun and enjoyment experienced at the Week-End was enhanced by our encounters with a good group like Blanchardstown.

Thanks for everything .
