Reviews: "Hate Us Or Love Us We Don't Give A Fuck"

Ugly Things Issue 13 (1994)
CRIME - HATE US OR LOVE US WE DON'T GIVE A FUCK (Planet Pimp) LP.  Hate us or love us is not as immediately necessary as the previously-discussed album (see review of San Francisco's Doomed by the same author) but is interesting none the less.  Basically its a case of bootlegging the bootleggers.  Nine of these live cuts first appeared on an overpriced boot on Out of Darkness.  Here - thanks to the band - they appear in slightly better (though still muddy) sound quality, along with four extra tracks, including two from CRIMEs second ever show in January 1977, and a segment with Frankie Fix interviewing a six-year-old CRIME fan called Amber.  "Did you ever have a monkey on your back?" is one of the deadpan questions.

The album captures CRIME live in their prime - loud, obnoxious and raw as hell.  "Hot wire my heart", "Stuck on you" and "Murder by guitar" are all particularly tough and wailing.

And the following between-song rap says all you really need to know about CRIME: "We don't play no punk rock.  We don't play any kind of 'punk' , and we don't play any kind of 'rock'.  We play rock and roll.  We're a rock and roll band!" (Mike Stax)
