Masquerade Chapters 28-29

Chapter 28
Brenda: *Reaching for his hand* Are you okay?
Sonny: *Weakly* Yeah, sure.
Brenda: Why don’t you tell me what is bothering you and maybe we can work it out together?

Her use of the word "together," caught him off guard. He suddenly decides that he has to tell her about the house, then if she wants to keep it, they can figure out a way together.

Sonny: Do you want to go somewhere with me?
Brenda: Where?
Sonny: Just somewhere that we can talk.
Brenda: Sure.

They start out the door and run into Taggert.

Taggert: Going somewhere Corinthos?

Sonny runs his hand through his hair, this was not what he needed right now. Brenda can see the desperation in his eyes. Taggert would use any excuse on the planet to harass Sonny, but it isn’t going to happen at that moment. She interweaves her hand with Sonny’s, a move that doesn’t go unnoticed by Taggert.

Taggert: You two seem pretty close for a couple that doesn’t mean anything to each other.
Brenda: Sonny is my friend, nobody ever said differently.
Taggert: I think his exact words were, that you meant nothing to him.
Brenda: What exactly can we do for you, detective?

He lets the jab at his rank pass for the moment.

Taggert: I think the question is, what would Corinthos do for you?

Brenda couldn’t believe that after all this time Taggert was still obsessed with taking down Sonny.

Brenda: Is there a reason why you are here, lieutenant?
Taggert: We found a body and we think it may be the guy who attacked you and Ms. Cerullo.
Brenda: Would you like us to come downtown to the morgue and make an identification?
Taggert: That would be nice.
Brenda: See, this matter can be conducted in a civilized way.

Sonny just shrugs, eyeing Taggert suspiciously, especially when he doesn’t leave.

Sonny: Was there something else we need to help you with?

There was more than a note of sarcasm in his voice, which burned Taggert to the core.
He just couldn’t bear to let Sonny get the last word.

Taggert: How about telling me, how the man died and what you have to do with his death?

Sonny is silent, as usual, Taggert had no authority to question him about anything unless he hauled him down town.

Brenda: Sonny didn’t do anything wrong.
Taggert: When are you going to stop defending this low life creep, when your dead?
Brenda: I just came back from the dead, it is highly overrated.
Taggert: Well, you hang around with Corinthos for very long and you’ll end up gone for good.
Sonny: I’ve asked you nicely, now I’m not going to tell you again. Leave her alone!
Taggert: What are you going to do if I don’t leave her alone?
Sonny: I wouldn’t try it and find out if I were you.
Taggert: What are you going to do, put a bullet through my head like you did to Deke?

Brenda could tell that the last reference to Deke really affected Sonny. Taggert knew which buttons to push, he knew where Sonny was vulnerable.

Brenda: *Softly* I think you are about to step over a line lieutenant.
Taggert: I’m telling the truth.
Brenda: Your version of the truth, no doubt.
Taggert: You mean, you don’t know that your Latin Lover-boy is a cop killer?
Sonny: *Loosing it* Shut up Taggert.
Taggert: Temper, temper, Corinthos.

Brenda nudges at Sonny, trying desperately to get him to leave.

Brenda: Lets go find Lois, I’ll bet she is in Ned’s office.
Taggert: How long do you think it will take before he turns his temper on you.
Brenda: Sonny would never hurt me, or any other women for that matter.
Taggert: Tell that to his dead mother.

This is the last straw for Sonny, Brenda has to physically hold him back.

Sonny: Never Talk About My Mother Ever Again!

Carly and Jason have just gotten off of the elevator and witness the last part of the scene.

Carly: What’s going on here?
Brenda: Taggert was just leaving.
Taggert: Was I really on my way out?
Carly: I can call security and they can show you the door.
Taggert: Fine, you have an hour to get down to the morgue before it closes for the weekend.

Without another word ,he gets on the elevator and leaves.

Jason and Carly notice that Sonny is shook up and Brenda looks upset as well.

Jason: Are the two of you okay?
Sonny: Yeah, you know, it was Taggert’s usual drill.
Carly: You shouldn’t let him goad you like that, Sonny.
Jason: Taggert is kind of a complicated situation.
Carly: I can imagine. What was he doing here in the first place?
Brenda: He came to let us know that the police found the man who attacked me and Lois.
Carly: What was that about the morgue?
Sonny: They want us to go and identify the body.

Carly turns to Jason.

Carly: Are you keeping things from me?
Jason: I just haven’t had a chance to tell you the whole story.
Carly: Oh, well you can tell me now.
Jason: Okay, we can discuss it in the board room.
Brenda: I thought you two were on your way to Carly’s office?
Carly: I thought of something I forgot down here in the board room.

Jason is already down the hall.

Jason: *Impatient* Come on, Carly.
Carly: Be right there, Jace. See you guys later.

She follows Jason to the board room, leaving Sonny and Brenda alone.

Brenda: Carly is right, you can’t let Taggert push your buttons.
Sonny: *Smiling weakly* I know. Thanks for defending me to him though.
Brenda: Anytime, but I don’t think he is going to believe that we don’t mean anything to each other.
Sonny: That was a plan that was bound to be short lived I guess.

Brenda knows that Sonny was upset by Taggert, but for the first time she realizes how upset he is really.

Brenda: Sonny, your shaking.
Sonny: Like you say, I shouldn’t let him get me upset.
Brenda: come over here and sit down for a minute.

She leads him to a small waiting area and they sit down on a couch.

Brenda: I would have thought that after all this time Taggert would have calmed down.
Sonny: Or lost his badge, right? What can I say, the man hates my guts.
Brenda: Because he thinks you killed Deke, his mentor, his hero?
Sonny: Strange, but I guess even rotten cops who beat women and children are someone’s hero.
Brenda: Anything is possible, but what did Taggert mean about your mom knowing your temper.

Sonny hesitates because he had never told anyone, even Brenda, why Taggert really hated his guts.

Sonny: Taggert believes that I beat my mom.

He says it in a matter of fact manner, as if it didn’t mean anything. She can look in his eyes though, and see the pain that it is causing.

Brenda: Why would he think something that ludicrous?
Sonny: Because that was what Deke told him, everything that the bastard did he blamed on me.

She takes both of his hands in hers, although she is not certain if it is because she thinks he needs support or because she needs support.

Brenda: That is so wrong, you didn’t do anything, Honey. Deke is the one that hurt you!
Sonny: Yeah, I guess all of those bruises that I had were supposed to be self inflected.

She can tell by the sarcasm in is voice that he is in so much pain, it almost breaks her heart.
She stand up and paces the waiting area, almost as if she were trying to escape Sonny’s pain for him.

Brenda: How long have you know this?
Sonny: Remember when I told you that Taggert idolized Deke?
Brenda: Yeah, right after Emily collapsed after her drug overdose.
Sonny: I knew then.

Brenda sits back on the couch and enfolds him in a tight embrace. He rests his head on her shoulder as she wraps her arms around his waist.

Brenda: You have been carrying this around for that long, why didn’t you tell me?
Sonny: You had your own problems, you were fighting your drug addition.
Brenda: True, and I was confused about a lot of things, but I would have listened.
Sonny: I didn’t want you to be burdened.
Brenda: You are never a burden. Will you tell me now what Taggert said about your mother?
Sonny: Taggert he me he went to the hospital to visit my mother.
Brenda: Was she there because Deke’s beatings.
Sonny: Yeah, she was in bad shape that time. Taggert accused me of putting her in the hospital.
Brenda: I’m so sorry, it must have been hard for you to listen to Taggert repeat Deke’s lies.
Sonny: It was, because didn’t beat my mother. I never touched her, I promise.
Brenda: I know, baby, I believe you. You can’t let Taggert win though, you can’t let Deke win.
Sonny: I thought I was past all of this, I thought I could handle Taggert.
Brenda: I think maybe you are just a little sensitive right now and that makes you defensive.
Sonny: For a long time I really didn’t have anything to defend, then you came back into my life.
Brenda: Yeah, well I want you to promise me you won’t go to jail over my defense.
Sonny: I don’t want to go to jail period, but I do feel better after telling you about Taggert.
Brenda: I’m glad you told me, finally.
Sonny: Yeah, now all I have to do is stay out of Taggert’s path.
Brenda: Do you think he came here just to get in your face?
Sonny: Probably not, but it was a fringe benefit.
Brenda: You have to admit, Carly can come in handy in those instances.
Sonny: I don’t have to admit any such thing.

He looks mock offended. Brenda look towards the boardroom.

Brenda: What do you think her and Jason are doing in there?

Sonny gives her a wicked grin.

Sonny: I think we both have a pretty good idea what they are doing in there.

Now it is Brenda’s turn to pretend to be offended.

Brenda: In The ELQ Board Room!

Sonny gives her a seductive smile this time.

Sonny: Don’t tell me the thought never crossed your mind?
Brenda: Only about 100 times while Chloe was talking.
Sonny: I know what you mean, there is something about a color wheel that is so stimulating.

They both laugh, together, then Brenda sighs.

Brenda: Carly is living out my fantasies.
Sonny: Scary thought.
Brenda: is it my imagination or is there relationship very, um visceral?
Sonny: You aren’t imagining things, sometimes I wonder how they make time for anything else.
Brenda: Is that all there relationship is though, is it just based on sex?
Sonny: No, for some reason I fail to understand, Jason loves Carly.

Without knowing what he was doing, Sonny had echoed Jason’s feelings about Sonny’s relationship with Brenda.

Brenda: I guess it is impossible to second guess another couples relationship.

Sonny pushes the button and the elevator arrives almost immediately.

Sonny: I guess you’re right.

Carly had closed the door to the board room and locked it, once her and Jason were inside. Now she is on the board room table and Jason is kissing her as she unbuttons his shirt. However, she is wiggling around trying to get comfortable.

Jason: I’m not so sure this is a good idea.
Carly: Sure it is, it’ll be fun.
Jason: This is more difficult than it looked in that tape of your mom and Jerry from the Nurses Ball.
Carly: Ouch! Jace, maybe you’re right. It’s isn’t like we haven’t already done this today.
Jason: True.
Carly: Help me sit up.
Jason: Making love on a board room desk is not all it’s cracked up to be.

He helps her sit up and starts to button up his shirt.

Carly: Lets go up to my office.
Jason: *Smiling* I don’t think your office desk is any more comfortable.
Carly: *Grinning* I was thinking we could go up to my office and play with Michael!
Jason: That sounds like a really good idea.

He helps her slide off of the desk, she leans into him and kisses him hard on the mouth.

Carly: I love you Jason Morgan.
Jason: I know you do, now we had better go before the floor starts looking good.

When Lois arrived Edward was in Ned’s office complaining about Carly. So she had to make up a story about Ned and Brooke Lynne having a lunch date. It worked, despite the fact that Brooke wasn’t even with Lois. Finally, Ned convinced Edward that Carly was CEO and Edward would have to take up his problems with her personally. Edward left in a huff, either to go stew in his own office or to seek out Carly. Either way, Ned could have cared less, he was too preoccupied with Lois and her possible news.
As soon as Edward is gone, Ned gives Lois a passionate kiss.

Lois: Wow! I should come visit you at the office more often.
Ned: Maybe I should just spend less time at the office.
Lois: Good idea. So, how did the meeting go?
Ned: Strange, as usual. We are going on a corporate retreat to Monica’s spa.
Lois: Monica owns a spa?
Ned: You know what I mean, the one she and Emily are always visiting.
Lois: Sounds kind of relaxing.
Ned: That is what Monica insists.
Lois: How did Bren do at her first board meeting?
Ned: She fit right in, her and Carly seem to be fast friends, which kind of scares me a little.
Lois: I know it is a little weird but, they seem to have things in common.
Ned: I don’t want to think that. Do they know something about Sonny that I don’t know?
Lois: Loads, I’m sure. Why do you ask?
Ned: It just seems like Carly and Brenda were sharing a private joke, with Sonny as the subject.
Lois: Was he mad?
Ned: He didn’t seem to notice, but enough about them. What did the doctor tell you?
Lois: She told me what I already suspected, I’m pregnant.
Ned: We’re having a baby?
Lois: Yes, now promise me you aren’t going to break into song.

He doesn’t, instead, he pick her up off of her feet and spins her around, then kisses her passionately.

Lois: I think we should tell Brooke right away.
Ned: Of course, she needs to know she is going to get a new brother or sister.

When Edward left the office he didn’t close the door to the hall. Sonny and Brenda had walked up in time to hear the comment about Brooke getting a brother or sister. They stand in the doorway, getting over the initial shock.

Brenda: Can you run that by us again?

Lois and Ned look up to see them standing in the door looking extremely judgmental. A look of guilt passes across Lois and Ned’s faces, but it is the guilt of getting caught.

Lois: How long have you two been standing there?
Sonny: Long enough to hear about Brooke’s new sibling.
Brenda: We don’t understand what you meant, but I’m sure you’ll explain?
Lois: *Almost reluctantly* Ned and I are going to have another baby.

Before either Brenda or Lois realize what is happening, Sonny lunges at Ned, hits him square on the jaw and sends him crashing to the softly carpeted office floor. Brenda gives him a shocked look, while Ned rubs his sore jaw. Sonny realizes that he shouldn’t have hit Ned so hard, especially not after he had used the other fist to hit the door on the previous night. Now both his hands hurt and he felt kind of foolish.

Ned: What is the matter with you, Corinthos?
Sonny: In Bensonhurst that is how we deal with men who show disrespect for our women!
Lois: You have it all wrong Ned and I are married!

Sonny and Brenda both give her a shocked look. Brenda goes to the wet bar, a staple in all ELQ executive offices, and get an ice filled towel for Ned’s jaw. She hands it to him, and noticing that Sonny seems to be in considerable pain, she hands him an ice pack as well.

Sonny: *Softly* Thank you.
Brenda: You barely deserve it, but you’re welcome.

She is perturbed at Sonny for attacking Ned, but she is even more angry at the two of them for keeping the fact that they were back together a secret.

Sonny: How long have the two of you been remarried?
Lois: Several months.
Brenda: I can’t believe that you and Ned kept this a secret from your supposed friends.
Lois: If it makes you feel better, we kept it a secret from most of our family as well, Bren.
Brenda: Here I was making a fool of myself trying to convince you two that you belonged together!
Ned: We really weren’t trying to alienate anyone, we were going to tell you two.
Lois: Soon, very soon as a matter of fact.
Sonny: Sorry about your jaw, Ashton, but Lois is like my sister.
Ned: No harm done.

Lois notices that Brenda still seems to be upset.
Lois: Bren, are you okay with this.
Brenda: I guess I have to be okay with your keeping the secret.
Ned: It was mainly to keep our marriage a secret from my family.
Sonny: That I can understand.
Brenda: Okay, I’m over you keeping us in the dark, and estatic that you are having a baby!
She hugs Lois, then Ned in turn.

Brenda: Now, I want details of your wedding and everything!
Ned: That could take a while.
Sonny: Maybe it should wait.
Brenda: Oh right, Lo we need to go down to the morgue and check out the guy who attacked us.
Ned: What needs to be checked out exactly?
Sonny: They need us to provide the police with a positive ID on the body.
Lois: He’s dead? Because I don’t think I can look at a dead guy without getting queasy.
Brenda: Gosh, I hadn’t thought about that, but if we don’t go Taggert is going to hound us
Sonny: You mean he is going to hound me.
Brenda: It doesn’t matter, we have to go down there and get it over with.
Ned: Sonny, won’t you and Brenda be enough to make a positive ID?
Lois: Good point, I didn’t really even see the guy.
Sonny: We can try it, then if they need to call you in they can.
Lois: So, I don’t even need to go down to the morgue, right?
Brenda: Right, Lo, give me a call tomorrow and we’ll get together for lunch.
Ned: We aren’t ready to let the whole world know about the baby, so if you two will keep it quiet.
Sonny: Sure, whatever you guys want. Okay, Brenda lets go.
Lois: I’m going to walk out with you guys, because I need to get back to the Q’s and Brooke.
Lois kisses Ned goodbye and then leaves with Sonny and Brenda.
Chapter 29
The minute Brenda walked into the lobby of the resort where ELQ was having a corporate retreat her eyes locked with Sonny’s. He tried to pretend he didn’t notice her by glancing anywhere in the room except at her, but his evasion was useless. It would have been easier for him to stop breathing than to pretend he didn’t notice the instant she walked into the room. The last time that Brenda had seen Sonny was the day of the board meeting, when they had gone with Lois to identify the man who had attacked her and Brenda. Sonny had become moody right after they had found out that Lois was pregnant, which didn’t surprise Brenda one bit. Sonny had tried his best to be happy for Lois and Ned, but Brenda knew that it must hurt him to watch the expectant parents joy. Actually, that was only part of his problem, Sonny had wanted to take Brenda to the house in the country after they went to the morgue to identify the body. However, Lois had made it impossible for Sonny to get Brenda alone. Despite the fact that Sonny and Brenda had insisted that Lois didn’t have to go to the morgue. However, their friend had been equally insistent that she had to do her part an accompany them to the morgue. What she had actually done was prevent Sonny from being alone with Brenda and caused him to loose his nerve where telling Brenda about the house was concerned. For that reason, he had tried his best to avoid her all week. Only, now in the lobby of the resort, he found it impossible to ignore Brenda. In fact she was headed towards him at that very moment.
                                                                                                                                              Brenda: Hi
Sonny: Hello, Brenda.
Brenda: I haven’t seen you much this week, have you been hiding out?

Sonny shrugs his shoulders.

Sonny: Nah, I’ve just been busy, I guess. I haven’t really seen you around either.
Brenda: Yeah, but you always know where I’m at and what I’m doing.
Sonny: That isn’t true all I know is that your safe, my men aren’t spying on you, Brenda.
Brenda: I know, most of the time I don’t even notice they’re around.
Sonny: You know, it would be so much easier if I knew what I was protecting you from, sweetheart.

Brenda gets a distant look in her eyes, one that Sonny would pay a million dollars to understand.

Brenda: Not now, okay?

Sonny couldn’t understand what she could be hiding that she blelieved was so horiable. All he knew was that it had something to do with the attack on the docks and something to do with The death of Juan Marco Chavez and his cult followers.

Sonny: I don’t blame you for not trusting me, after all I have done to you in the past.
Brenda: No, honey, you’re wrong. I do trust you, I just don’t know anything else to tell.

Sonny knows she is not telling him the complete truth, he can see is in her eyes. He also knows that what ever she is carrying around is painful, he can see that in her eyes as well. Pushing her would only make her angry and probably push her away.

Sonny: Okay, if you think of anything you want to talk about, let me know.
Brenda: Since when have you been so interested in my problems?
Sonny: I’m always interested in you. I know I haven’t always been the best listener though.
Brenda: That is putting it mildly.
Sonny: I’ve changed a lot in the past year. Listening to Jason whine about Carly will do that to a man.
Brenda: *Teasing* Oh, poor baby, having to listen to details about Jason and Carly’s love life.
Sonny: You don’t know the half of it. Do you know that those two tell each other everything!
Brenda: Imagine that, an open honest relationship.

That was too much for Sonny to take at the moment. He wanted Brenda, he longed for her, but how was he supposed to make any progress when she kept throwing his faults back in his face.

Sonny: *Perturbed* I’m not Jason, I’m sorry if you can’t accept that.
Brenda: I didn’t mean to imply that we should be like Jason and Carly. I never dreamt of such a thing.
Sonny: Never?
Brenda: If I did, I gave it up for reality a long time ago.
Sonny: Maybe we should just start this conversation over?
Brenda: Yeah, maybe that wouldn’t be such a bad idea.
Sonny: So, how was your week Brenda?
Brenda: Just fine, how was your week Sonny?
Sonny: I can say without a doubt that it is on its way to being better.

He flashes her a dimpled smile. Much to Jason’s dismay, Carly had been watching their conversation ever since Brenda had walked into the room. She now saw what she figured was a land mine exploding.

Carly: This is going to be much harder than I figured.
Jason: What is?
Carly: Getting Sonny and Brenda together.

Jason shakes his head in doubt.

Jason: You can’t do that, getting Sonny and Brenda together is impossible.
Carly: If I run ELQ and get you to admit you love me, I can do anything.
Jason: Not this though.
Carly: You aren’t being much help.
Jason: What do you want me to do, handcuff them together.
Carly: *Smiling* Not a bad idea, but just tell me do they always fight this much?
Jason: They fight a lot, they have a pretty passionate relationship.
Carly: That isn’t necessarily a bad thing, they just need to channel their energy.
Jason: Isn’t that what this retreat is about, channeling energy?
Carly: Yes, but not until the morning when it officially starts.
Jason: What are we supposed to do until the morning?
Carly: Enjoy the amenities. I saw that Allan and Monica already signed up for joint mud baths.
Jason: Together?
Carly: That is what joint means, Jace, they are probably getting real close right now.
Jason: Okay, that is not a pretty picture.
Carly: I guess not, but there is a lot to do here. There is a private steam room if you get my drift.
Jason: It is a little hard to miss.

Sonny walks over to Carly and Jason.

Jason: What’s up?
Sonny: I need to talk business with you.
Carly: *To Jason* I’ll meet you in an hour?

Jason looks at Sonny.

Sonny: We should be finished in an hour. We just need to go over some coffee vouchers.
Carly: You know, after tonight you have to focus on ELQ for the next week and a half.
Sonny: Don’t remind me.
Jason: We’ll survive.
Sonny: *Sarcastic* By the way I want to thank you so much for my roommate assignment, Carly.
Carly: The resort is still heavily booked, everyone is having to double and triple up, Sonny.
Sonny: Yeah, but couldn’t you have put me with someone other than Ned?
Carly: Who, like Brenda maybe?

Sonny gives Carly a death stare.

Sonny: If I’ve warned you once little girl, I’ve warned you a hundred times.
Jason: You and Ned get along fine. Besides, you don’t hear me complaining about my roommate.

Sonny gives Carly a once over with his eyes.

Sonny: Actually, I wouldn’t trade you roommates for all the sand in the Sahara.
Carly: I’m going to go before things get really nasty.
Jason: Okay, what are you going to do right now?
Carly: I want to make sure that Michael’s room is comfortable then take him on a walk.
Jason: You should hurry then, because it will be getting dark in a couple of hours
Carly: Don’t worry, I’ll be back before dark.

She kisses Jason, quickly, then gives Sonny a dirty look. As she leaves the lobby, she passes Lois who is coming in out of breath.

Carly: Hi, Lois, how does Brooke like her room?
Lois: Great, but I have to complain about my roommate.
Carly: Everybody does, but I thought you would want to room with Brenda?
Lois: Brenda isn’t the problem.
Carly: Oh, you mean Chloe?
Lois: Exactly!
Carly: Sorry, but there aren’t any more free rooms.
Lois: When one becomes available, I want Chloe to have it right away.
Carly: I’ll let the manager know. Have you taken advantage of any of the resorts facilities?
Lois: Not yet, I thought I would see if Brenda wants to go for a swim in one of the lakes.
Carly: I hear that the thermal lake is very relaxing.
Lois: Maybe we’ll try that one.
Carly: Have fun, and I’ll see you later.

Carly leaves the room and Lois walks over to Brenda, who can’t seem to keep her eyes off of Sonny.

Lois: Hey, Bren you look distracted.
Brenda: Who me? No, I’m just a little bummed.
Lois: Why?
Brenda: Did you hear who our roommate is going to be?
Lois: Yeah.
Brenda: At least you can always sneak off with Ned.
Lois: Haven’t you heard? Ned has a roommate as well.
Brenda: Who?
Lois: Sonny!
Brenda: Do you ever think that Carly has some diabolical scheme in the works?
Lois: I think Carly constantly has some kind of scheme in the works.
Brenda: I’m glad it isn’t just me going off on some paranoid trip.
Lois: You’re not paranoid. Carly put Sonny and Ned together for a reason that only makes sense to her.
Brenda: Why did she stick us with Chloe though?
Lois: Desperation I imagine, there were no rooms left.
Brenda: You aren’t helping things by keeping your and Ned’s marriage a secret you know?
Lois: We were waiting for the retreat to tell Ned’s family, so things may change soon.
Brenda: Good, because I can hardly wait to give you a baby shower!
Lois: Bren, the baby isn’t coming for months!
Brenda: I don’t care, I’ll give you a dozen showers!
Lois: Okay, now you are frightening me!
Brenda: I’m so happy that you and Ned are together and having a baby. You know what this means?
Lois: That you get to be a dotting aunt on top of being Brooke’s godmother?
Brenda: Of course, but it also means that I was right all along. You and Ned belong together!
Lois: All right, lets go for a swim before you start to gloat so much you won’t float!
Brenda: Where are we going to go swim?
Lois: Girlfriend we are going to go for a swim in thermal lake.
Brenda: Sounds interesting, but is that safe for you and the baby?
Lois: Why wouldn’t it be?
Brenda: There might be all kinds of bugs or creatures in the warm water.
Lois: Okay, now you are starting to freak me out! Come on, lets go before I change my mind.

Lois drags Brenda from the room, while Sonny watches. Jason can’t help but notice his friends distraction. In fact, Sonny has been distracted for the last few minutes.

Jason: Sonny, would you like to finish this some other time?
Sonny: Such as?
Jason: Maybe, when you can keep you mind on something besides Brenda?
Sonny: I guess I would be dead then, because as long as I breath she is going to be a distraction.

Jason gives him a knowing look.

Sonny: What?
Jason: Nothing.
Sonny: I know that look Jason. You think Brenda is a dangerous distraction.
Jason: I can’t seem to win. When she was dead you were miserable.
Sonny: Yes I was, I’m not going to argue that point.
Jason: Yet, now that she is around again she is all you think about and you ignore business.
Sonny: I’m not ignoring business.
Jason: You haven’t heard a word I have been saying for the last few minutes.
Sonny: Sure I have, you were saying that Carlos is nervous. So what else is new?
Jason: Sonny, I need your advice on how to handle things.
Sonny: You know how to handle Carlos better than I do, you don’t need my help.
Jason: Maybe not in dealing with Carlos, but what if a bigger problem comes up?
Sonny: I’ll be here if you need me.
Jason: Unless Brenda happens to have a broken nail or something else that needs you attention.
Sonny: What are you saying, do you want me to cut my heart out and stop caring about Brenda?
Jason: No, I want you stop straddling the fence and do something about Brenda!
Sonny: I told her I loved her, which you said was a mistake.
Jason: I thought it was a mistake, maybe I was wrong though.
Sonny: I’m open to your suggestions, if you have some.
Jason: Did you tell Brenda about the house you built for her in the country?
Sonny: I haven’t had the chance yet.
Jason: Well, that would be a place to start.
Sonny: I don’t just want to tell her about the house, I want to show it to her, but there is no hurry.
Jason: Don’t you have it up for sale?
Sonny: Yes, but I don’t expect it to sell anytime soon. I want to do this the right way.
Jason: I’m not sure there is a right or wrong way.
