Captain Midnight

Jakob Dylan is the most well-known and media visible member of the Wallflowers. His blue eyes have been staring out at us from music magazine covers ever since the band's 2nd album Bringing Down the Horse became a surprise hit in 1997 with the release of the first single "Sixth Avenue Heartache". Maybe it was a surprise to a lot of people to but to those of us who heard tracks off their first album, it was what we always expected. Jakob's deep voice combined with lyrics that actually have meaning behind them (a rare thing it would seem listening to music today) struck a chord for us. I personally always loved the song "For the Life of Me" off the self-titled debut. Having to listen to all my friends scream about the New Kids on the Block was torture for me because I had grown up with REAL music like Led Zepplin and Pink Floyd and bands like that. I found myself a haven in the lyrics from the Wallflowers' songs. Bringing Down the Horse was even better though. With songs like "Invisible City" and the Grammy nominated "Sixth Avenue Heartache" and the song that was omnipresent during 1997 "One Headlight", this album blew me away. I have three copies of it..need I say more? So, in my humble opinion, Jakob is a wonderful songwriter and also a pretty good rhythm guitarist and I love his deep, husky voice. Jake has been married to Paige since shortly after the debut album and they have two sons, Levi and James. Alrighty then, to the obvious...he is Bob's son but I don't think that really matters to most Wallflowers fans. He has totally stepped out of his dad's shadow with this latest album and has made a name for himself. I respect him for that because he could have so easily have rode his father's fame. But he refused to do so but also refused to give up when the band seemed to be going nowhere. I sound like I'm describing a god or something! excuse me while I pay homage to my Wallflowers poster shrine in my room...
