Kbee recieved a message across subspace. She sighed in relief. It was from Timm Higgins, he was onroute to join the USS Mariner and take up his position as head of engineering. At least now she'd be able to do her job as Ships CO instead of the ships engineer. She smiled as she looked down and rubbed the new pip on her shoulder, just before they had left the bar, FAdm Cliff had slipped a small parcel in to her hand and winked. She was glad of it. Parcels always cheered her up.She'd opened it and it revealed a small pip and a short message from the FAdm And Adm of the academy, promoting her to full admiral. She was pleased. She only hoped Timm would be. She guessed he was sore after losing his command. She couldn't blame him but then she was the only CO in the fleet who agreed to have him serve on their vessel. She waited for his arrival. Ships Log .... Captain Higgins is onroute and will join us soon to take up his post as the USS Mariners Cheif engineer. I will be glad to have him aboard. Timm and I are old friends and I hope this tour of duty will not harm that. Meanwhile I have been given promotion to full admiral and I must note in my logs that although I am grateful I do not feel that I deserve it. The USS mariner is at peak effiecieny and stands ready for her next mission. I am hoping that those Cardassian ships just inside their border will not cause too much trouble. End log. And while she did she called the couselor to her ready room. ***

**Vice-Pro Council T'Azar Llire to Procouncil Broc Jomar** "Centurian, please send a message to the Procouncil by secured channel informing him that an agent will be placed on Cardassia Prime." As the IRW M'Seer took it's battle position, T'Azar briefly remember something she had read in Klingon: 'What devious webs we weave when we practise to decieve." True, she could be in troubel if caught reading Klingon, but she believed in knowing her adversary and at this moment, temporary ally. (Submitted by members of the Romulan Empire RPG)*

**USS Nazgul breaks contact with the USS Moonblade** As she watched the screen fade to the Federation symbol, Adm A* sat back in her chair in her ready room and thought about the conversation she had just had with Admiral Llira on a secured channel. "Well," she thought to herself, "time to inform my crew of what may transpire." She stood up and made her way to the bridge. As Adm A* entered the bridge from her ready room, Commander Shaw gracefully gave up the command chair. Adm A* sat and looked around the bridge, she had a lot to say to the crew, but took a moment to herself. She was proud of her crew and hoped she would still be seeing the same faces when all this was over. Picking up the padd with ships reports, she looked over arrivals and departures, her heart sank. Vin'thela, her very reliable Vulcan engineer had fianlly left the Nazgul. Adm A* recalled the private discussion between them two weeks ago. With the Dominion threatening Vulcan, a rebellion had began to fight it. It was a small group, but Vin'thela had felt compelled to join it. She said she would do so quietly, secretly and she did not know exactly when. Adm A* had even provided her with some obscure contacts. Adm A* could see that she had finally found her way into the rebellion. All Adm A* could do now was hope that they would meet again someday.

From: "Lt. Jim Wilson, ceng" Subject: Hawkeye-Chief Engineer's Log Date: Sun, 30 Aug 1998 11:44:58 PDT "This is the USS Seeker to the USS Hawkeye, please respond." Wilson's ears perked up. The blessed sound of a Starfleet voice. Almost shouting, Wilson picked up the makeshift comm receiver. "I'm Lieutenant James Wilson, Chief Engineer of the Hawkeye. USS Seeker, we are alright, as far as alright goes. Get a med team over here fast--the captain's bleeding to death on the bridge. And somebody get a pyro team over here. We need to get into the mess hall!" "Coming right up, Lieutenant. What's your status?" "Too tired to fall asleep, too broken to pick up the pieces. In short, I'm just fine." Wilson now became very relieved. "Hey, Seeker, did you by chance find the little bastards that did this to our ship?" "Sorry, I think you got 'em." "Yeah. I'll beam over for debriefing in a few minutes. Get the captain, and have a relay ready for me to speak directly with Admiral A. Paradis. It involves the captain." "Is that all, Wilson?" "Yes. Wilson out."
----------------------------------------------------------------------

"Admiral, my name is Jim Wilson. I'm the Hawkeye's chief engineer. I believe you've already heard about Vice Admiral Belin. He's gonna be just fine." "Well done, Lieutenant. And thank you." "With all due respect, don't thank me till this war's over, sir. We've got a lot of people here that got blasted to pieces. Have you ever seen the effects of a supercompressed M/A-M package being jettisoned with five humans underneath? It's messy, and I ain't seen that kind of mess since I had the flu in high school, and it wasn't even that big." "Right. Anything else?" "Just one more thing, sir. I'll be enclosing some data on the battles, as well as a full list of the casualties. A cause of death on each one may be difficult, but I'll give it a whirl. That's it." "Very well. Again, thank you. Paradis out." As the Federation seal came to the screen, Wilson looked out the window of his nearly destroyed quarters on the Hawkeye. He began bagging the useful stuff, and bagging the unuseful stuff. Then he left, quoting a song that his grandfather taught him, handed down through the generations: "Closing time, every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end..." =============================================================

Wilson took the PADD from his bag, and searched through what was once the main deck of the Hawkeye's engineering section. Finally, he found what he was looking for: Crewman John Winter. Winter was a goofball, and he never gave a dang about much till the war started. Wilson saw the young man that he once was in Winter's eyes, and got him to look another way after a while. Finally, Wilson thought, I get this kid to listen, and he's dead. So Wilson decided that, as opposed to just filing a report on the dead man, he would file a letter of recommendation to the AW/DEC department. >Dear Senior Officer, Starfleet Awards and Decorations Department, It is my duty to inform you that one of the men under my command, Crewman First Class John Patrick Winter, of San Francisco, California, has bravely given his life in the line of duty against an armed enemy force. Like the rest of the crew of the USS Hawkeye, he is dead. But the events surrounding his death are quite remarkable. When the boarding parties started arriving, I witnessed Crewman Winter not only holding his post, but also evacuating wounded crewmen out of the engineering section. Mister Winter bravely engaged the enemy in combat, at the repeated risk of his own life, and died protecting the freedoms and liberties that Federation members, civilian or Starfleet, hold dear. Winter is a reminder that freedom is not free. Therefore, it is also my duty to inform you that John Winter was a man of honor. He grew up a lot during this war, and I believe that his service record should reflect this. Winter was always the first to volunteer, always the first one fight, always the first to take point in intense situations, always the brightest, always the best. In his final moments, Winter shown brightly against these smoke-tainted bulkheads right to the very last. I believe that the family of Crewman Winter deserves not only compensation (irrelevant as it may seem), but also some form of formal recognition from the government. To quote a citation that was once read of a man who received the Starfleet Medal of Honor, "Crewman Winter not only displayed a certain level of commandability and teamwork in his life, but also conducted himself in battle as a soldier. This man exhibited the definite examples of gallantry and intrepidity, at the repeated risk of his own life, above and beyond..." Wilson had to choke it in. "...above and beyond anyone's call of duty." Always faithful,Chief Engineer James Wilson, USS Hawkeye And back to the ship... ================================================ Lieutenant James Wilson Chief Engineer USS Hawkeye, Starfleet Registry NCC-67514 United Starfleet Command ***

*** Fleet Admiral Cliff on the Akagi with the Fleet ***** As the FAdm sat in his Command chair seeing the masive fleet move out toward Cardassian Space he got a urgent call to CIC, As the FAdm walked into the room he noticed all the officers waiting on him, what can I do for you Cmdr Bosh, You have a urgent call from both the Federation Pres and the Romulan Empire, Ok I will take the Federation Pres first. As the Federation symbol changed the Pres face appeared on the screen the FAdm looked at the Pres, yes Mr Pres what can I do for you today. We at the council have high hopes for your plan but we have another problem that you have brought to our attition that is, that almost all your Command Officers are in the Fleet and that is a Major concern to us, and what about Betazid, I have a plan about that Sir if you will approve it I will do it, the FAdm went into great detail about the plan, as Intell has told us some of the Dominion forces has been pulled from Betazid to keep us out of Cardassian space this could be our chance to strike in two place at once or we can really push there supply lines to the limites with attacks. As the FAdm finished up with the Pres he signed off and shock his head well here we go with the Romulans..... the Imperial Romulan symbol pulled up and came to a Face that the FAdm new all to well, Pro-Council Broc Jomar head of the Romulan Senate, yes Senator what can I do for you. Just to let you know since you have not held you part of the bargin with sending us updated Intell on the Dominion we have sent a Tal'Shair agent there maybe Now we can get some intell, I apologize for that Sentor as I have been corved up and our Intell has not been pulling it's wieght which I plan on looking into VERY soon. We would like any new information you get, we will see the Sentor said and closed the channel, well thanks to our Intell we may have upset our new Allies, I must see to this but first things first. Open a Channel to the Nazgul, yes Sir replied the LT, Channel is open sir, as the FAdm looked at his long time Friend Adm Paradis he smiled good to see you once again not in a meeting....The FAdm smiled but could see the concern in Adm Paradis eye's about this up comming battle with Cadets on her ship, You don't have to say it Adm I have something new for you to do, You are in the Back of the Fleet, take a few ships with you and head to the out rim of the Betazid boarder, they take charge of the Fleet and work on hitting there supply lines hard, as we maybe moving soon against them there as well. I have faith in your leadership to push the Cardassian and Dominion forces out of that area, Betazid needs to be back into our hands once again, I just got off the line with the Pres and he really presed me about the urgent matter of Betazid and I am sure you can understand why. So I wish you luck. As the FAdm signed off with Adm A* he got a urgent call from the Bridge, Sir a Dominion/Cardassian sqaudren is approching us at high warp, about 8 ships sir, Very well, Raise shields go to red alart. All ships this is the Flag ship, this is more then likly just a small Fleet sent to confuse us and side track us, do not change course meet them head on.... I hope our Klingon Friends will handle this while the rest of the Fleet go's on. Romulan forces are holding course and part of the Klingon forces seem to be moving to intercerpt them let the Klingons handle this while the rest of us move forward the Klingon forces that stay behind can catch up after they destroy them, that is all the FAdm signed off and went to the Bridge. FAdm Cliff USC

**** Pro-Council Broc Jomar Romulan Empire ***** As the Pro-Council got off-line with the FAdm of the Federation Fleet he went to Senator T'Azar, Yes Senator what can I do for you. Broc out. Pro-Council Romulan Empire ***

T'mara dropped the cardassian off with the 8th order and received the documents she'd asked for. She immediately transmited them T'Azer and waited for a response. She'd done her job and hopefullly the data she'd got back would help them. ****

**Adm A* of the Nazgul to the USS Moonblade and orders to her crew** "Ensign Sabio, set course for Betazed. Ensign Raywin, I know it is not protocol, but our senior tactical has gone with the Quicksilver and you are the most experienced officer onboard, please take your position at tactical on the bridge." "Ensign Rose, please continue preparing the cadets for battle, we don't really know what we will find at Betazed." "Lt. M'soaa, please take the science station on the Bridge." "Commander Shaw, I would like you to personally see that this message is sent with the proper encryption codes." **Subspace Messagel ** Encryption code Zed ** **Subject: Operation Starburst ** begin transmission** "Admiral Llira," Adm A* began her encrypted subspace message, "we have recieved orders to set up a defence perimeter around Betazed. Reports have shown that Cardassian influcence is weak there now due to the impending battle. I have additional orders to recruit a few ships to accompany me. Will you and any ships under your "service" accompany us? Adm A* out."

From: Lt. Jim Wilson, ceng It was wet. It was cold. It was rain. And Wilson loved every minute of it. "I'm singin' in the rain, I'm feelin' a buttload of pain, 'cause I just lost my bay-bay, the Hawkeye to the Domin-yain!" His meter and fauceto were obviously in need of some serious work. That wasn't all that needed work. "Geez, think that Starfleet Command hasn't issued new orders for me yet. Maybe I oughtta rewrite my will. There's a freakin' armada headed for Earth, and I ain't in the defense! This is a war! I need to fight!" Wilson stepped back into the shade of the tree. Suddenly enough, the rain stopped. His commbadge chimed. "To all civilians and Starfleet personnel: we apologize for the loss in control of the weather network. Any requests you have can be taken at the public relations office. They are open until 1930, or 7:30PM, San Francisco time. Thank you." Wilson ran back to the hotel, and got to his room. Picking up his duffel, he rummaged through it. Finally, he found all the things he needed: phaser, personal shield, rifle, tricorder, utility knife, combat knife, medkit, power cells, food rations, canteen, tactical supply vest, armor vest, shield enhancing clothes, helmet, and the finishing touch. Wilson pulled out the .45 firearm that his father passed to him from ages past. He loaded it, and replicated more ammo for it. He grabbed the vintage holster, and it fell apart in his hands. "I'll just replicate one. Computer, give me music. Twentieth century, rock, alternative, Christian." The speakers blasted the notes of a song that Wilson hadn't heard since he was a civilian. The holster was ready. All his gear prepped, he returned the heavy-duty gear to his pack and slung it over his back. He left the hotel, ready for action. ==============================================================

Wilson stomped into the enlistment office, and suddenly the guards jumped to their feet. Wilson stuck his arms in the air. The guards noticed the patch on his flak: STARFLEET OFFICER. They stepped off, and Wilson approached the first available desk. "My name is Jim Wilson, and I want to enlist. I'm an officer, former Marine, and I have Level X certification to fly a combat shuttle. Here's my chip." The man at the desk took his chip, and said, "Hawkeye. Didn't they digyour ship up in the Badlands?" "No. Kirkwood sector. The captain and I survived. Everyone else...well, that's in the past now. Get me into the first, most convenient seat available." "I tell you what, sir." The man looked up. "I can have someone send you notification. We have currently no spots, unless you wanna resign and join a militia." "No, I'll take the letter. Send it to me, and make sure it's from Admiral Paradis herself. Call me nuts, but she owes me one. Just one." In a condescending tone, the man answered, "Uh, yeah. Next!" ==============================================================

Wilson went back to the hotel. "I'm getting a pad before this war ends. I should go to my lawyer, too.Get my will changed. Aunt Gertie died, and so did Liara. No heirs, maybe." He bagged his clothes, and walked out. ***
