How is wrestling scored???

This link is set up for those of us who might have a question or two about scoring in the sport of wrestling.

Points earned in a individual match.

2 points for a TAKEDOWN
2 points for a REVERSAL
1 point for an ESCAPE
2 points are rewarded if the opponents back is exposed to the mat for 2 seconds...
3 points are rewarded if the opponents back is exposed to the mat for 5 seconds...

If the wrestler pins the opponents shoulder blades to the mat for a 2 count then the match is called a PIN!!!

Most matches will have three, 2 minute periods, unless they are in a tournament consolation bracket where the first period would be 1 minute.

The wrestler is also penalized for various actions (too many to discuss). The wrestler first gets one point taken away. The second time, it costs the wrestler another point. The third time it is 2 points and if the wrestler is caught again, he/she loses the match.

TEAM POINTS

A PIN is worth 6 points to the team in all dual matches.
If a wrestler is ahead by 15 points the match is called and the team gets 5 points for a TECHNICAL FALL
A win by 1-7 points is worth 3 points
A win by 8-14 points is worth 4 points
All DQ's, INJURY DEFAULTS, ECT are worth 6 points.
A BYE or OPEN in a dual is worth 6 points to the team who has a wrestler at that weight.

TOURNAMENT SCORING

This really depends on the tourament site rules, but I will give you the points most often used.

Wrestlers gain points for advancing in the bracket.
If the wrestler advances on the winners side they recieve 2 points for advancing.
If the wrestler advances on the consolation side of the bracket they recieve 1 point.
Wrestlers who win the "PIGTAIL" match will not recieve advancment points unless they win the next match as well.
Wrestlers who advance by way of a BYE do not recieve advancmant points.

Wrestlers may recieve extra points for ways of winning.
If they win by PIN then an extra 2 points are added.
If they win by TECH FALL an extra 1.5 points are added.
If they win by MAJOR DECISION (8-14) an extra 1 point is added.
PIGTAIL Wrestlers may recieve these above points for the pigtail match.

In a Tournament that places 4:
1st place recieves 14 points
2nd place recieves 10 points
3rd place recieves 7 points
4th place recieves 4 points

In a Tournament that places 6:
1st place recieves 16 points
2nd place recieves 12 points
3rd place recieves 9 points
4th place recieves 7 points
5th place recieves 5 points
6th place recieves 3 points

I hope this helps you better understand the scoring in wrestling. Don't worry, you usually have ALL DAY on Saturday to figure.
