(The 3 Illuminations of Awen)
This Rite functions as protective purification, and is to be used in any magical situation where strength, protection, inspiration, or higher forces need to be called down (or when its desired to rid the body/mind/spirit of unwanted forces. or for keeping negative external factors out), and should be practiced until it becomes automatic. (Much the same as the banishing rituals of the pentagram.)
The Rite is as follows:
1. Stand where there is light, preferably direct sunlight upon the head form above (noon threshold is ideal).
2. Close your eyes, breathe deeply, and be calm.
3. Once you have achieved a state of confident self-control, take 1 deep breath AS you raise both hands high over your head.
4. Draw your hands slowly back down to your sides, while intoning the first 3-fold utterances: "I" (pronounced as a long "EEEEE"). Gage your exhale carefully, so that you run out of breath just as your hands reach your thighs.
5. Repeat procedure, exhaling this time with the second utterance: "A" (pronounced as a long "Ahhhh").
6. Repeat for the last time, intoning "O" (pronounced as a long "OOOOO").
7. Without pause, repeat procedure combining all 3 sounds together into one continuous note: "EEEEE-Ahhhhh-OOOOO." Then open your eyes.
The RIGHT ray represents the masculine attributes of the Sun, the LEFT the feminine Moon-energies, and the MIDDLE (or "Crystal Ray) represents both and neither: the "Ray of Balance and Separation." They rays are drawn in that order.
The “I” sound stands for teh feminine contra active, water qualities (the left-ray of the Goddess), and were used as an isolated sound to draw down these forces.
The "A" was the middle-ray of balance (the Crystal Ray), the "air principle," and was invoked when stability was an issue.
The "O" is open and expansive (the fiery right-ray of God), invoked when the masculine forces were desired.
Each sound draws down a different kind of energy, and this is a powerful Rite.
The 2 forms of the 3 Ray symbol are similar to the "invoking/banishing" ritual concepts. This ritual is the "Active Form," to draw the power down. To banish powers away from you, reverse the exact order:
