To work with gargoyles you need to do the following:
1. visualize precisely how your gargoyle looks. Height, weight, wing-span, facial features, color ( who says they have to be green or grey?), hair, more human than animal, male, female, non-gender--hey, it's your choice: ).
3. Treat them with respect--always!
First it is recomended that you meet your gargoyle in a meditation sequence. This gives you both a chance to scope each other out. If there is anything frightning or menacing--pass that one by and go on to another. You are looking for a protecter, an entity that is willing to share wisdom and knowladge with you without expecting anything in return, therfore you need a rapport of positive energy. **Gargoyles are not normally good astral lovers. They are another species and therfore require one of their own to make them truly happy. Never meld the lower three chakras with a gargoyle. Not a good idea. Stick to the "be my bud" scenario and you'll do just fine.**
Gargoyles are wonderful friends. Their traits include courageous, thoughtful, protective, agility, a sense of honor to clan and family, fairness, sincerity and carry a strong sense of justice. If you want to honor your gargoyle and give him/her a gift for helping you, leave something shiny out for him/her to find. You can also make a gargoyle box, filled with gifts that belong only to your friend. I wouldn't mess with the box though, nor take any of the gifts back
Pick a statue of a gargoyle (one you have or buy one) and place a glittering necklace around its neck. Light a candle to honor the positive energy youve recieved.
**Keep in mind that one doesn't worship a gargoyle. It is not an archetype. It is a type of energy, just as you are a type of energy. In any venture, you are partners--equals if you will. Neither one better than the other. Consider them another species or a different race that requires your respect, as you would respect any living being on Gaia (or around Her).**
Gargoyles are excellent guardians. You can cast a circle and ask them to guard the perimeter. They are terrific for guarding your home, property, and family. Oh, and they love to catch and eat astral nasties as a snack. Yum!
Rember always to release the gargoyle(s) when you have finished your magick. If they will have a full time job, such as protecting your home or property, build a shrine for them--a place of rest in their vigil and a renewable source of energy.
And now the moment you've all been waiting for (hehe) how to actually call the gargoyle. Some people use a rattle, or a drum, or a song to assist them, I just visualize him in my mind, and call his name as i chant the following:
"On wings of thunder
honor bound
Search me out
I drum the sound
Twist and turn
in the night
Gargoyle come,
my guiding light.
Protector, Guardian,
friend not foe.
Come to me
See my sigil glow.
Strong and true
this friendship charm
I beckon thee
keep me from harm.
Around and about
my magicks swirl

Welcome O Guardian of (insert name)."
