Carve a circle in the ground, and place 12 small rocks around the circumference, intoning:
"I call today on the strength of Heaven
Light of Sun
Radiance of Moon
Splendor of Fire
Speed of lightening
Swiftness of Wind
Depth of Sea
Stability of Earth
Firmness of Stone."
Primal Mystics used the 12 stones to represent the 12 star houses (the months in our Solar Year), the hours in a day, and, especially, the triple form of the 4 elements. Making a circle of stone assures the rock-hard protection of the earth element.
Remember what security against error the circle offers!
Mark the Circle your height in Diameter. One section should be left open, and around the outside trace the 4 signs of the elements--1 in each quarter.
The Elemental Kingdoms' powers lie entirely beyond those of the physical world, and are invisible to all but the trained inner-eye; these forces form the 4 cornerstones of Druidic Magic.
North: Cold Stone
South: Fiery Oak
East: Fragrant Golden Pipes
West: the Dark Western Waters
Above lies the vastness of Nwyvre (space), though which the 3 Illuminating Rays of Awen come from the Sun.
Below lies the depths of Annwn (the indigo, hidden realm of creation), into which no woman may look.
Before re-entering, recite "Y Gwir Yn Erbyn Byd" (Welsh for: "The Truth Against The World," the Druid's most sacred pledge), then kneel, reciting this doctrine:
"Great voice that calls us in the Wind of Dawn
Strange voice that stills us in the heart of Noon
Heard in the Sunset
Heard in the Moonrise
And in the stirring of the Wakeful Night
Speak now in Blessing.
Then recite this blessing before closing the circle:
"Nid Dim on d Duw...Nid Duw ond Dim."
Proceed by placing the 4 Symbols of Mastery Sun-wise in their proper quarters:
Wand in the East, Sickle to the South, Chalice in the West, and Holey-Stone to the North.
Follow the Portal Spells, tracing each sign as you go:
Wind=Wand
Fire=Sickle
Sea=Chalice
Stone=Disc
