I planned to give you a star,
but the extra long ladder
I stole from Home Depot
was only tall enough
for the birds to nest in.
The robins perch on the top rung,
feeding their naked chicks,
making too much noise
waking me up early.

When I cut out that slice of storm
and giftwrappedd it for you,
I dropped my scissors and
they went shooting past me
and landed
by pure chance
in the pool in my backyard.

are flat and straight.

I went to the ocean, planning
