Hibernation

Creatures may sleep through winter
it is a failing in man that we
are forced to cold and wasted wakening
when the bitter chill is in
How easily they avoid the worst of times
buried in peaceful, self made death
and how hard it is, blessed with thought,
to copy them to sleep for the darkest days
