We have been studying this approach intensively over the past number of years. With this approach, young children are encouraged to explore their environment, which will change often to reflect their varying interests. As regards the child's intellectual development, the approach is highly collaborative, with an emphasis on problem solving. Their intellectual development is fostered through a focus on communication and exploration of their ideas. Children will use all of their natural "languages" or modes of expression, including words, movement, drawing, painting, building, sculpture, collage, dramatic play and music. It is our belief that through their explorations with these many modes of expression, their confidence in their own intellectual powers will increase and their disposition to go on learning will be strengthened.
For more information on this approach, we suggest the following books: The Hundred Languages of Children; Second Edition, edited by Carolyn Edwards, Lella Gandini, and George Forman. 1998.
