Inspiration
Being a triathlete means more than just the physical activity of performing in a
multi-disciplined activity. Part of journey is experiencing the mental challenge and
growth of a demanding sport.
Race Reports
A variety of magazines carry race reports of international, regional or local races and
can be very informative and even inspirational. For example, the the Sports Illustrated
article that documented the first Ironman race is legendary in it's impact on early growth
in our sport.
Another source of race reports is available on-line, however, and is probably even more
inspirational than those that are published. These are the ones from the competitors
themselves. Some are top age-groupers, some are MOPs (Middle Of the Pack), some are BOPs
(Back Of the Pack). Below are some places in cyberspace where these race reports are
available:
Quotes
"It is not the critic who counts, nor the man
who points out where the strong man stumbled, or where a doer of deeds could have done
them better. The credit belongs to the man in the arena whose face is marred by dust and
sweat and blood, who strives valiantly, who errs, and who comes up short again and again,
who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions, and spends himself in a worthy
cause. The man who at best knows the triumph of high achievement and who at worst, if he
fails, fails while daring greatly, so that his place will never be with those cold timid
souls who never knewvictory or defeat."
