Baby Talk

Well...this part of my homepage deals with the languages that I know (or am trying to learn). The point of this is to teach you useful little tidbits of some languages (like French, German and Tagalog).

As some of you know, Canada is a bi-lingual country and therefore we are encouraged to learn both English and French in school. But the wide majority of Canadians can't speak much French. I can...but I ain't gonna put many phrases and stuff up in here. If you want to know a phrase in French, just drop me an emo and I'll tell you what the translation is. *s*

I consider German my second language 'cause it's the language that I'm most familiar with. Unfortunately I didn't learn German from my father (who is from Germany)...I just learnt "high German" last year in University.
So here are some useful phrases in German...if you want to know how to say anything in German, just drop me an emo, okay? *w*
Here's a short pronounciation course:
*"ch": similar to a cat's hissing *"ä": like the "a" in "hate" *"ö": kinda like the exclamation of disgust "ew"

So here we go: some phrases in German
Ich liebe dich - I love you
or
Ich habe dich lieb - I love you
So bin ich eben - that's just the way I am
du hast reich - you are right
Wo ist das Klo? - where is the toilet?
Quatsch! - Nonsense!
Das ist mir egal - I don't care
Ich habe Hunger - I'm hungry
Du bist schön - You are beautiful (said to a female)
Du bist gutaussehend - You are handsome (said to a male)
Ich habe Lust auf ein Glas Bier - I feel like having a glass of beer
Okay, I think that's enough German for today.

Now for some Tagalog. Tagalog is the national language of the Philippines... it is an Asian language, but doesn't use the characters that Chinese and Japanese languages use. There are some Spanish words found in Tagalog and that's because the Philippines were invaded by the Spanish a few centuries ago and some Spanish words found their way into Tagalog. To me, it's very hard language because there are certain accents that have to be put on a word for it to make sense. The pronounciation is somewhat difficult to master for a person of Latin or Germanic-language decent. But I'll try my best to show you some (useful) phrases in Tagalog...and if you want to know more,. just email my fiance 'cause he knows more than I do *s*.

Here's a quick (pathetic) pronounciation run-through:
*each vowel is pronounced separately. Eg: Nasaan is pronounced na-sa-an

Mahal kita - I love you
Nasaan ang kasilyas? - Where is the toilet?
Meron bang sigarilyo? - Do you have a cigarette?
Isang besong tubig nga - A glass of water please
Ano ang pangalan ninyo? - What is your name?
Kumusta ka? - How are you?
Mabuti (po) naman. Salamat. - Fine, thank-you
maganda - beautiful guapo - handsome

And that's 'bout all the Tagalog that comes easily to me...but I'm learnin' *w*.
