Dear Melissa Lynn,

I was given your name and e-mail address by Susan Dechant who found the information on the internet.  My name is Ginger Williams and I live in New Smyrna Beach, FL.

I have recently become interested in the Edwards line of my family history, and I am hoping that you can help me with a problem.  I have found information that one of my ancestors, Joseph Edwards of Cape May, NJ,  was married to an Elizabeth Ingersoll of Gloucester on 8-1-1752.  There is also a listing in the marriage records of Cape May for a Joseph Edwards who married a Susannah Ingersoll  on 12-9-1776.  I am not sure which of these is my Joseph or whether he married two times each time to an Ingersol.  According to what I have, Joseph and Elizabeth had 7 known
children, Eleanor, Naomi, Joseph, James, David, Elizabeth and Sarah. According to DAR information, this Joseph was born around 1730 and died in July, 1782.  He was commissioned an ensign on April 29, 1771 and later commissiioned as the captain of a privateer called "Luck and Fortune."  I also have a copy of a will of Joseph Edwards dated June 28, 1782 which confirms the information regarding the names of the children, but lists two more sons, Enoch and Ebenezer, names a brother, David, and gives the name of his wife as Susannah.  So, now, I am thoroughly confused!!!

Is there any way that you can help me?  At this time, I have e-mail service only and am not on the internet.  My e-mail address is gingerbread16@juno.com.  If you have any information that can help me clear up my Joseph problem, I would sure love to hear from you!!

Looking forward to hearing from you.
Ginger Wiliams

Melissa,

I finally found out information on Joseph Edwards and on the Ingersolls. In case it will help you, here is what I found out:

Joseph Edwards, son of Josiah Edwards and Sarah Parsos Edwards married Elizabeth Ingersol of Gloucester on August 1, 1752.  After the death of Elizabeth Ingersol Edwards, Joseph married her sister, Susannah Ingersol on December 9, 1776.  The children of Joseph and Elizabeth are Eleanor,
born 1753, who married Daniel Steelman in 1773; Naomi, born about 1755, married Frederick Steelman on Oct. 4, 1773; Joseph Edwards, born about 1754, married Sarah Willets; James Edwards, born about 1754, married Elizabeth Griffing (my ancestors); David Edwards, born about 1756, married Hannah May; Elizabeth Edwards, born about 1760, married Mr.Maddox; Sarah Edwards, born about 1762, married William James; Enoch Edwards, born about 1757 and Ebenezer Edwards, born about 1759.  In his will, Joseph states that Susannah was pregnant at the time of his death in July, 1782, so there may be one other Edwards/Ingersol child, but I
have been unable to find out a name or date of birth.

Maybe this will help you with some of your research.
Thank you for the information and good luck.  Stay in touch.  If I find
out anything else, I'll let you know.

Ginger Williams
