OK, I just found this - Adam married Catherine in 1794, and then she married 2 May 1805 to William Lyons.  If I could have your snail-mail address again, I can mail you my references & some genealogy on this line (Coiners) even further back than what I sent you.[I have this in my possession, just have not input a lot since I got it]  It seems I got it, but didn't put itinto my computer for printout, so I appreciate that you asked me a question, causing me to go thru this family so I could find what I've not put into my computer.

(I am typing EXACTLY what he did)

For the last eight years, from April 19, 1775 to Sept. 3, 1783, fighting had raged up and down the thirteen colonies in America.  The Americans had been fighting for their chance at freedom and independence.  Finally the Revolutionary War was over and the long years of conflicts and uncertainty were gone.  Pennsylvania had been the battleground of several major battles and numerous smaller skirmishes between the Americans and the British.

A large number of Americsans of German descent began migrating out of Pennsylvannia into the Appalachian Ridge and Valley region of western Virginia.   These German pioneers forced their way up through the Valley region and settled in what are now Rockingham, Shenandoah and Augusta Counties.

Rudolph Hawpe and his family were among these German pioneers from Pennsylvania who settled in Augusta County, Virginia.  On July 4, 1784, Rudolph purchased 100 acres of land from Arthur Casmpbell near the present day town of Greenville.  Rudolph purchased some more land in 1795 then began the long years of building a home and raising his family.  Rudolph farmed his land with the help of his three oldest sons and raised cattle and horses.

In 1802 when his son Adam died, Rudolph was prompted to write out his will to be sure his young grandchildren would be taken care of.  He wrote his will on August 13, 1802.  The will was proved in court on June 25, 1804.  Sometime in between these dates the patriarch of the HAWPE family passed away.
