Just thought I'd send off a quick reply to your email. I just
got off the phone with my mother, who is going to write down names, dates,
etc. of all the family that she can, and I'll forward the relevant parts
of that onto you as soon as I get it. Mom was curious too about how
her father's name got reported as Durl Lucius instead of Durl Allen, but
she remembered that there was some relative of her father who would visit
occasionally named Luke Dise. She always referred to him as Uncle
Luke, though she knew he wasn't her father's brother - perhaps a cousin,
or even his uncle...
We're also still pretty
curious to find out where the name Dice originated - he father was born
in Sears, Michigan, and she has the recollection that his father, George,
came from Canada. George was not spoken of too much in the family
because he died, possibly of suicide, in 1905 and her father never spoke
much of him - he would've only been 9 at the time. Durl also became
somewhat estranged from his family when he converted to Catholicism upon
marrying my grandmother. We were always pretty close with the Switzers
- my mom and Yvonne Switzer Alles are still as close as sisters - and I
remember my great aunt Delove fondly. My grandfather, Durl, died
in 1962 or 3.
Anyway, I'll send you the information when I get
it - thanks for your help.
Sincerely,
Tim
