Occ: doctor, schoolmaster
French Huguenot physician. Recieved his degree from the University of Leyden. He was the first educated medical man in New Amsterdam. He was appointed a member of the Council under Governor Kieft and Governor Stuyvesant in New Amsterdam. He was in command of Fort Orange [Albany, NY] as Vice-Director and surrendered the fort to the English in 1664. He belonged to ancient nobility in France.
