The Induced SmA Phase in New Menthyl-Containing Copolymers

A number of the new chiral side-chain menthyl containing copolymers was synthesized. Phase behavior,

optical properties and structure of the synthesized copolymers with different compositions were studied.

For the first time a specific mesophase induction in side-chain copolymers, containing non-mesomorphous

side groups, was proved to be possible due to the steric correspondence between different side units.
