My version of a ship rally.
I spoke with Lady Lamina about
volunteering to help with this event but I wasn’t sure if I would be home and
she said she was fairly sure she had enough volunteers anyway. Well fortunately I was home in time to participate
after all. I recalled in to the guild
house and asked Lamina if she was sure she had enough volunteers and was told
that yes it was covered I should get Nick and go ahead sail and have fun. So that’s exactly what I did.
Nick and I went up to the top of the guild house and waited with the
other teams for instruction on exactly what we were supposed to do. I had actually brought two ships with me in
case Nick wanted to go on his own and maybe we could between us capture at
least one maybe two of the prizes since there was absolutely no way we would be
winning this thing. Well Nick told me
he didn’t want to go on his own because Lamina always has riddles or things
that have to be figured out AND he heard there was a test afterwards and he
hates tests. Rastus came round and
explained that the ships would be departing on a staggered schedule and Milock
would go first. We watched Milock head
out and waited for our turn we still didn’t have any directions on what was expected
of us so we just made a few jokes and waited nervously for our turn. I don’t really remember who went next but I
know it wasn’t Nick and I. We went 3rd. Rastus collected us and we followed him to
the waters edge and placed our boat he handed us a bag and said read the books
and good luck or something to that effect.
I started reading and Nick says ok it says go to Minoc so lets go. I’m trying to read the instructions and he’s
trying to win the race…. I guess we balance each other out a bit. I’m too cautious and he’s too careless. I set our course for Minoc and read the book
of instructions I figure out that we should be taking careful note of where we
are what we are sailing past and to. We
hit Minoc and sailed north along the coast we hit a pocket of water elementals
and killed them Nick is like “ok lets move!!” I said “No we have to loot these
things and carry it back in this pouch.”
Nick: “We don’t have time to
loot!!”
Kronic: “We do and we will. Now
let me read this thing.”
I had a terrible time trying to read each page carefully and keep the
boat heading for its next destination at the same time. Nick was eager to jump off at each Marker
Point and was always there ahead of me so we wound up with him having most of
the markers and me having most of the loot and trying to get him to give me the
marker books so I could put them in the bag and him shouting the whole time
that we aren’t moving fast enough.
We get to a marker point in the book and another boat sails right up to
the coast and its occupant jumps off and goes running off screen I say “looks
like we just got passed.” Each person at the marker points was urging us to
hurry and move along finish up or you wont win. I was starting to feel like I was wrong in keeping us steady on
course and taking careful observation of our surroundings. The whole race went sort of like I read a
page from the book and Nick would think about it for a moment to solve the
riddles while I looked on the automap to see if I could place where we were
heading, he would look over my shoulder and say “yah I think that’s right lets
get going and see.”
We made it to each marker and I asked each person at the marker points
how many boats were in front of us and it was always we were in 2nd
place. We should have been in 3rd
from the beginning and 4th after we got passed at marker 1. I don’t
know what happened to those other two boats but beat them we did.
We arrived back at the guild house and got ready to take our quiz it was nerve wracking actually, the questions were very specific and not really easy to remember but between Nick and myself we managed to answer all but two I think. I say I think because one we answered but I’m not sure if it was right or not. I remember the beginning instructions in the quiz book said Answer these 12 questions, well we got to question 11 and noticed there were 2 number 11s the second one we didn’t remember at all so in the comments block I wrote, “We answered everything except one question because we wanted you to know that the instructions said answer 12 questions but you actually gave us 13 so we didn’t answer the question we didn’t know the answer to. ; )”
I was actually quite amazed that we won this event there was a lot to it
and I really had a great time. I waited
too long to write this story so I may not convey some of the feeling that
really went along with this. I just
wanted to say “Thank you Lamina for hosting this event and once again Thank you
GOH for having me as part of your numbers.”
