First off, I must say that Onimusha was an all-a-round fun experience...while it lasted. Although it was extremely short, it was an awesome game. The play time is only about 4 hours, even if you try to achieve everything (which isn't very hard). If the game were longer it might be worth owning. The graphics are very nice, and the gameplay looks just as good, if not better, than the cutscenes. The monsters are sweet looking, especially the more intelligent demons, and the last boss is really cool. Even though the storyline could use some changes (First you're on a mission to save Princess Yuki, and then it develops into saving the whole human race from being eaten or sacrificed by the demons), it isn't all that bad. The sound is impressive, but the music could be better. I like the sound of all the hacking and slashing, and the monster's squeals for help while your blade divides their skulls. Even though it borrows a little from Soul Reaver, everyone knows that this is a much better game, because Soul Reaver sucks. It's a lot like Resident Evil too, but that's no surprise considering it was made by Capcom also, I like this a lot more. Swords beat guns any day. Easily the worst aspect of Onimusha is the horrible voice acting. Not only is the speech bad, but the character's mouths move in Japanese while speaking English, like a cheesy old Japanese movie. The gameplay and controls were good, and I enjoyed all the combos and different kinds of moves you could pull off. The puzzles were mildly challenging, but could be a little harder. I recommend you rent it and beat it like I did first. There isn't enough extra features to want to own it, in fact...there's none. All there is is the story mode, and no multiplayer, which would make it much better. But it is definately worth the five bucks to rent.
