Name: Meliawen Skyrose
Pronunciation: Mehl-eye-uh-when Sky-rose
Age: 10
Society: Aes Sedai
Nationality: Murandian
Talents: Balefire, Traveling
Mental and Physical Description:
Meliawen is young, but many
consider her strikingly beautiful. She has red hair, which she keeps
cut at her shoulders and sea-green eyes. She is currently four foot ten,
but when she turns seventeen, she will reach her full height of 5'7
(she got her tallness from her father).
MEliawen has her mothers short temper and her fathers intellegence. Many times she has talked her way out of sticky situations. She believes that anything can be solved if you think about it long enough (though half the time she reacts first). Many of her colleagues say she is "mature" for her age, and those at the Tower say she is unusally strong for a Novice.
Meliawen also tends to keep to herself. She grew up with her mother and father in Murandy, and since they were both Wolfkin, she spent time with the Wolves more often than not. She can communicate with them, but not the way a Wolfkin can. Rather, the wolves can sense the blood of a Wolfkin inside her and they accept her.
Biography:
Meliawen was born and raised in Murandy. Her father had
inherited a large estate and when her mother and he got together, they
moved there. Her mother, Ravana, has always been a free spirit, and was
quite young herself when she became pregnant with Meliawen.
Growning up was rather lonesome for her, as she was raised as a Noble. Seldom did she see the city outside the walls of her Fathers estate. Thus, she grew up as a quiet loner, shying away from other children. At the age of ten, though, her life would change forever.
Ravana and Seth had been spies for the White Tower for years, and so when a group of Aes Sedai came to Murandy, they opened their home for the group to stay. There were six, one for each ajah, and Meliawen took an immediate liking to them.
The group stayed for a month and a half, and in that time, they discovered that Meliawen could channel. Ravana, when she found out, threw a fit. The shouts rang through the entire manor as Ravana insisted the Aes Sedai stay away from her daughter.
The representative of the Green Ajah, a woman named Judith Kenoyer, insisted to Ravana that while Meliawen was quite young, she was already strong in the power. "Chances are," the Aes Sedai said. "She has already embraced and does not even know it."
After much debate, the Aes Sedai finally forced Ravana to agree. Meliawen had to go to Tar Valon, or she could become a danger to herself. The day they left, Meliawen went with them. It was the first day of a life she had never known, and she was thrilled.
Little did she know that this day would change her life forever...
Audition Piece:
The tears mixed into the cut on her cheek and she grimaced at the stinging pain. For five days the battle had raged on with no sign of closure, and then it had ended, just like that with something...un-natural. Frowning into the distant sky, Meliawen glanced at the snake-like creatures that wrapped around her forearms. It was so hard to believe, and so unlikely that she still had trouble focusing. Since the day she had learned what she was, she had plowed through mountains of books in a desperate search for answers. Still, there were no answers to her questions. She WAS the Dragon Reborn, but there was nothing to say how, or why.
(Lews Therin was a man, and so was that boy who was killed long ago.) She thought, frowning in puzzlement. None of it made sense, and she wasn't entirely sure she wanted it to. Her mother had always said that too much information could never be a good advantage. (That can't be right!) Meliawen sighed, placng her bow on the ground and sitting beside it. She was not alone among the wounded. Hundreds of others in her ranks were spilling blood as well. The ones who could were helping to heal, though there were few with the ability to channel among them. Meliawen, only twenty-two years of age, was Aes Sedai herself, but she had no ability to weave healing.
Scrubbing a hand through her fiery red-orange hair, she glanced at the man beside her. His clothes were torn, revealing tan skin here and there. He had the muscles of a blacksmith, though he had grown up a soldier. (So long has he hidden his emotions from me.) She had known him since the day she had come to the White Tower. They had met by, literally, running each other down in the hall. After knocking her over, he had helped her pick up her scattered books, and then introduced himself. After that, they saw eachother regularly, but rarely had the chance to talk. Often, she sat at her window and watched him when she had the time. Years had passed, and she had become Accepted, at last able to spend more time with him. The two became quick friends and, after more time, Meliawen found herself falling for him.
"Are you alright?" He asked her, and she looked at him in surprise. Drawing a shaky breath, she smiled and put a hand briefly on his arm.
"I'm fine, Veborion." She sighed, rubbing the dry blood from her face. He smiled softly, a dimple appearing in his cheek, and he handed her a damp cloth from one of the buckets of water. Meliawen nodded her thanks and rubbed the dirt and blood from her face and arms. Afterward, she tossed the cloth back into the bucket and examened the state of her dress. It was torn in several places, and the hem was singed, but that was better than the situation for some of the others. Pushing back the tears, she avoided looking at the bodies of her comrades. Their foes had already fled, except the ones that would stir no longer. Many of the Warders were digging and burying the bodies.
"You know you didn't provoke this." He told her, pulling her to look at him. His deep brown eyes studied her intently. Meliawen stared at him for a long moment before laughing sardonically.
"Of course I did." She squeezed her eyes closed and sighed. "I did whether I wanted to or not. I'm the Bloody Dragon Reborn!"
"We know you don't want it to be this way." He pulled her close again and hugged her. She found comfort in his embrace. "You've said so yourself more than once. The Wheel weaves as the wheel wills. You are the Dragon, but you are also a person."
"I don't understand." She sighed again. "This is not the path I imagined for myself. Though," Meliawen paused. "An Aes Sedai's life is never easy."
"You're very unique, Meliawen." Veborian told her. "I know things are very difficult right now, you may even feel like giving up. I just want you to know that no matter what, I stand by your side. I'll be here for you no matter what. So, try not to be lonely, because I'm here for you."
"Veborian..." Meliawen stared with her eyes wide. (He's spent so long hiding his feelings from me. He told me he thought love was insignificant. Oh Light how do I tell him how I feel?) Veborian drew her away from the others where they stood just inside a grove of trees.
"I don't know how to say this." He began, his voice jerking awkwardly. "I'm not afraid of being hurt, but I'm not strong either. It's just that I can't stand doing nothing anymore!" He scrubbed a hand through his long blonde hair. "I'm sorry for telling you love is unnecessary. I've been as sad as you feel. I suppose in all this time I've just pushed aside my feelings for you. We've known eachother for more than ten years.
"Light, I remember that annoying Novice I had to push away just so I could walk!" He laughed at her indignant expression. "We've been friends for a long, long time. You tell me your secrets, and I tell you mine. What if I told you...what if I said that I love you?" Meliawen felt as if he had hit her with a bag full of bricks.
"What?"
"I know its crazy, especially after what I said, but." He took her hands. "I do. I love you, Meliawen." She didn't have to answer him, he could see her response in her eyes. Her face crumpled and she threw herself into his arms, sobbing. He held her close, wrapping both of them in his cloak to keep out of the cold. "I swear I'll always be there. I swear it by the moon and the stars in the sky, I'll be there. For better or worse, I love you with every beat of my heart." Meliawen snuggled deeper into his chest and felt his love.
"Thank you." She whispered, her tears wetting his shirt. Veborian smiled and brushed a strand of hair from her eyes. "We'll be a team, you and I."
"Yes." He replied, still smiling. "The perfect team."
