Name: Forney Greenbow
Pronunciation: For-nee Green-bohw
Age: 28
Nationality: Two Rivers
Warder: Bonded to Novalea Sedai
Mental and Physical Description:
Forney looks just like his
brother, except he is two inches shorter, and with a different face.
They have the same dark curls, the same dark brown eyes, and the same
Blacksmiths body. However alike they are on the outside, however, they make
up for it by their differences on the inside.
While his brother is passive until provoked, Forney tends to be short tempered, irritable, and loose-tongued. Many times he has spoken before thinking, and it has gotten him into trouble.
Biography:
Forney was born and raised in Devin Ride as a Blacksmith's
son. He often stood in the shadow of his older brother, and felt as
though no matter how hard he tried, he would never be able to do anything
as good as Ryman.
When Ryman ran off to Tar Valon to become a Warder, Forney was riddled with envy. There was no way he could even dream of surpassing his brother now, and that made him angry. His Father went on day and night about what a good son Ryman was, and how useless his other son could be.
Forney worked his weight in sweat in the forge, trying desperately to please his Father, only once. But things never got better, and Forney was never good enough for Master Greenbow. One night in anger, he packed his things, saddled his horse and took off into the night.
Ryman's letters had been coming from Tar Valon for some time now, so Forney knew he was still there. He had to see him, for reasons even he didn't understand. More than once along the way he cursed himself a light blinded fool. He had no idea why he was running to Ryman, he hated being near his brother, hated standing in his shadow. Still, Ryman was the only person who understood him, and he cared about his brother more than he was willing to admit.
When he reached Tar Valon, he met Novalea Waveflame, an Accepted who turned his world upside down. She was stubborn, and sweet, and for some reason, he enjoyed being around her. He hated all Aes Sedai from the moment he had stepped into Tar Valon, thanks to a small incident involving the attempted death of one of the not so nice ones. Rymans Aes Sedai, Jesi, had threatened him, and then Ryman himself had attacked Forney. Ashamed and disgraced, Forney had retreated to the gardens, where, he crashed ungracefully through the door and there she sat.
Novalea was, in every way, Forney's match. She was challanging, supportive, annoying and amazing all at once. He was glad he had found a friend here, even if she was a channeling witch...
Audition Piece:
Forney wasn't really sure why he had a knack for destroying things. It hadn't really been his fault to begin with, but somehow, the entire rack of practice swords had been knocked over in a slight argument with another Warder, and well, here he was. On the ground, hands on knees pressing into the grass as he crawled around picking up the weapons, Forney cursed under his breath and plotted his revenge. This would be the last time his brother made a fool out of him. When he was finished, he got to his feet, and immediately stumbled on a knot in the ground. He didn't need the stabbing pain or the tumbling crash to know he had knocked over the sword stand...again.
An hour later, face burning at the laughter from the passing Gaidin, Forney got to his feet again and moved away from the rack quickly. Apparantly, this was not his day at all. Feeling more than slightly irritated, he jumped over the fence and headed for Novaleas study. He needed to vent, or throw something, or curse. Perhaps she would understand his frustration. He noticed that the more irritated he was, the more of a bumbling fool he became. Unfortunately, he didn't notice that until after he had tripped and fallen on the stairs twice. He normally wasn't clumsy, but he was ashamed to say he felt like crying, and throwing a fit, like he had when he was a child. Still, he managed to get to Novaleas study in one piece, strangely enough.
Alinore eyed him calmly as he stormed into the anteroom, slamming the door loudly behind him. A single raised eyebrow was all she usually gave him when he came in upset. Frowning, Forney eyed her with impatience.
"Is she busy?"
"I am going to assume, Daughter, by the amount of noise coming from the anteroom, that my Warder has arrived." The dry tone belonged to that of the Amyrlin Seat. Forney felt his face grow hot, and his irritation swelled again. He couldn't help but glare at her. "Oh don't look at me like I've caught you with your hand in the cookie jar. Come inside." She vanished into her study and left the door open. Forney stormed in after her, closing the door. Then, frowning at it, he opened it, and slammed it again for good measure. Novalea, sitting behind her desk, was staring at him wryly. "Ryman again?"
"Isn't is Blood ALWAYS?!" He snapped, throwing himself into a chair. He didn't care if he was sulking or not. "Flaming fool of a man. I think hes trying to make my life a bloody misery!"
"He is the Head Gaidin."
"Do you think I Flaming care about that bloody title of his?!" Forney screamed, leaping out of his chair and pacing the room. "He is my brother! We go through this all the time." He scrubbed his hands through his dark curls, irritation conquering all other emotions.
"You need to stop letting him get the best of you." Novalea said, scribbling her elegant signature on a document and placing it inside one of the boxes on the desk. "Why is it so difficult for you to do that?"
"Oh Light Blind me, Novalea! You of ALL people should understand what its like to be overthrown by your older sibling every time you turn the corner! You are expected to meet a certain level, but even if you do, its no big deal because your older sibling did it first!"
Novalea gave him a dry stare, blue eyes full of knowing. "I moved past my sister years ago. You know it no longer concerns me. Perhaps the fact that your brother is constantly present her is what weighs on you most. But, you know very well that you could have left at any time before I bonded you. What stopped you then, Forney?" Her question hit him hard, and his jaw fell open. He thought if he couldn't pull it back into place soon, he would start drooling. Snapping it shut with considerable effort, he frowned at her.
"Don't you know?" He whispered. "Light Blind Me, Novalea. It was you." She raised an eyebrow at him, and he wondered if he had said something wrong.
"That definately isn't the answer I was expecting." Despite her cool Aes Sedai exterior, her voice was thick with shock. Forney felt as though he were fumbling, and knocking the rack of swords down all over again, which only frustrated him. What the Bloody Ash does she WANT me to say?! He was tired of playing mind games with AEs Sedai. He wanted to be around normal people, for a change. Then, she said something that REALLY floored him. "I am flattered, Forney."
Again, his jaw fell. At least this time he was faster in pulling it back up. He sat down again, feeling her embarrasment and shock through the bond. Ryman knew she could feel his frustration, and his feeling that he was constantly trapped inside a tiny steel box.
"I don't know what to do." He whispered, staring down at his hands to keep from weeping. He had strong hands, with square palms. They were good hands, for Blacksmithing. He had never expected to weild a real sword with them, in an effort to protect someone. "I've been your Warder for two years now, Novalea. So long have I held back what I really meant to see, determined I would say it at the right moment. Well, time has gone by, and I never have found the right time to tell you how I feel."
"You don't need to say anymore, Ryman." She said, getting out of her chair for no reason he could see. The expression on her face was sad, and inside, Forney panicked. "I know how you feel about me. I can see it every day in your eyes, and hear it in the way you talk. You are the only one in this Tower that seems to remember my name is Novalea, not Mother. Still, the last thing I need in my life right now is romance." Her words were slowly sinking in, and for the second time today, Forney felt like slipping into tears. "I need a protector, Forney. Someone who can watch and look out for me. Perhaps, someday, there will be a chance for us, but now, things are too complicated."
Forney had absolutely no idea what to say. There was no way he could describe to her how he felt. There were no words to tell her, and nothing he could no to make her see how much she had hurt him. All he could do was nod his head, and turn to leave the room. He could feel her watching him as he left, closing the door quietly behind him. Alinore eyed him only once, and he nodded his head to her before ducking out of the ante room. Through the halls of the white tower he went, toward his room, keeping a stone face. He had to pretend he was strong, he had to show them that he wouldn't cry over something so ridiculous. Still, when he did get to his room, he locked the door behind him, and sat down on his bed with his head in his hands.
Novaleas words poured over him like a powerful waterfall. Too complicated? There was no better time than the present, or so his mother had said. There was no way he could ever explain to her how she had hurt him, and it seemed there was no real reason to try. Throwing back his body, he laid down on the bed and stared up at the celing. Much to his dismay, the tears began to fall. When he had left home, he had never dreamed he would find someone like her. Someone that was so deep into his heart he found it was now impossible to let go. P>Email Jessica for more information.
