Glad you made it this far. Some people don't, believe it or not. I don't know why. Either they didn't like my rules, (which are not yet complete but will do for now,) or they see the words 'role-play' and scream for their gods to save them for the secular world. What ever the case may be, it is not important. Why you ask? Well… because RP (role-play) is not for everyone. It takes a skilful mind to do this. Yeah, that's right. I said it, and I will say it again. It takes a skillful mind to play this game. You don't have to me smart. All you need first of all is common sense. Yes, here in TS you will live a virtual life, but let's face it. THIS is not REAL LIFE. That means that if you cannot distinguish between REAL LIFE and virtual life, then you do not have a skillful mind and you will not do well here. In fact, you are best to just leave because you will indeed be proven to be mentally ill or stupid. You will be undesirable! You can't handle this! This is for people who understand that fantasy is fantasy, and that reality is real. THIS IS NOT REAL PEOPLE!!! This is a mental game! Not all people have the mental capacity to understand that. What is capacity? Well, there is this thing called a dictionary. When you finally discover what it is, then you will also discover that you can't comprehend what I just told you. Now that the screening is over and done. Let's move on.
You may not know how to role play, or you may already know. So what? Well, when you enter another person's home, you won't act the same as you would in your own home. I hope your brain is processing this, because what I am about to tell you is how to act in this house. The keyword is 'act.' That's right. Yeah this is called a game, but really it's not. This is more like a movie. Yes. I said yes damn it! You are an actor/actress here, not a gamer. This is a field of entertainment. Indeed. You are the person acting a part or auditioning for a part. The only difference is, you create the character you want to portray. Being in TS, you will have to live as that character. EVEN THOUGH THIS IS NOT REAL LIFE, you live a virtual life. Cool huh? Yeah, tell me about it. Anyway. It is almost a rule here that you should only play one character. (Hmmm… maybe I will make it a rule.) Why you ask? Well, sorry role-players have more than one character. You are expected to have an open mind about that statement and what I am about to tell you. Character development is IMPORTANT here. We do not need a multi-character, half-ass role-playing nutcase in this game. No offense for the people that do this, but it won't happen here. In TS, it is IMPORTANT that you focus your energy into one character at a time. This way the character can grow and expand. Come on now! I said this is virtual life. There is only one life. If you die, you can always come back as another character and try again. It is that simple. Your dead character will even be in the obituary! How about that? Interesting huh? TetraStarRPG is to feel as real as possible, so players can feel like they have a place to go away from the stresses of reality. Yes, paradise! If and when you decide to make a character and happen to visit the 'Information Nexus,' you will see. I think you are beginning to understand what I mean here, so lets go on.
There are two styles of role-play here. They are called Drama and Action. Why? Well, they are the most highly worshipped factors in a movie. Well maybe not worship, but you know what I mean. I discovered that there are two main types of role-players. Would you know that they happen to fall under drama or action? Yeah. For sure! So there are two ways to RP, and two types of characters to portray as well. These characters are Combat and Non-Combat. Okay, okay, listen. Now that you know all this, you should pay attention to what I am about to say.
Drama players by definition are those that like their characters to sit in one room (that indicated an inn, tavern, etc,) and no not much more than chat, for social circles, establish friendship and romantic relationships, gossip, and more. They tend not to have their character do combat or quests. This is all fine. As long as that is what you continue doing with that chosen character. If you want a little action, it is all right to have a non-combat character do combat/quest as long as you make a combat character sheet. If not, you as a drama player must play your character as non-combat. Drama player /characters grant the4 benefit not to worry about stats and other things. All they need to do is use a creative imagination and simply act. That's it. It's sort of like being extras in a movie. Cool huh? Read on to get a better understanding.
Action players are those that not do combat, but save some time to do a little drama. This is good because while the drama characters act as extras, you get to make a grand interest as a 'somebody' in the TS universe. (For example: A dancer was busy slithering along a golden dance pole, flashing her leggy body around to fulfill the fantasies of many horny onlookers, but something caught her attention from across the room. It was a man, a soldier who was dressed in a military uniform, and he suddenly came in through the entrance of the nightclub before noticing her.) In this case, the 'dancer' is the drama character, living her everyday life as a dancer and making money have an honest living. The 'soldier' is an action character that probably came back from battle, now visiting the nightclub to unwind and relax his mind. See the difference? Sure you do. Action characters have to deal with stats and other thing to accommodate the COMBAT side of the game while drama characters do not. Sounds cool? I thought so. Moving on.
Yes, yes, yes, there is much battle going on here. That is the major purpose of this game. You want character growth and development? Then you should be in situations that will help you do this. Experience is the keyword here. The more experience you get, the more you grow. That is what experience points are given. With these points, a character can go up levels and become a better person. The will be many skills and abilities to use, which might aid you in battle. No more of that half-ass Rp. TS is about adventure and excitement! That means there are times when you may have to launch out into space from a carrier ship and fight hostile alien forces. Anything can happen anywhere! There is a lot going on. Take advantage of it. As a action player, you must understand that in TS there are no auto-hits. When your character attempts to do something, there is no completely guarantee that he or she will succeed, so do not assume that you will. People that do this deserved to be decapitated! This is why we have stats people! This is why we use dice. *By the way, every room has a dice to judge these complications.
In his game we use chats rooms on a particular server. You will be required to go to some of these rooms in order to RP. That will be discussed in the 'Channels/Rooms" section on the main page. Enough said for now about this. Now we move to the next subject.
OOC = speaking 'out of character' about this not pertaining to the game. Too much of this will kill the game flow or other people's concentration, so watch it.
IC = speaking 'in character.' This has no relation and should not have any relation to OOC situations.
OOC knowledge and info is not IC knowledge and info so doesn't cross them. What you know OOC about a person's IC should not be shown unless your character happens to know or was told.
