Taryk Braendolyn

Taryk Braendolyn

Profession:    Swordsman, Field Medic

Taryk was born in a small sylvan community near Ta'Vaalor. Raised by his uncle, he never met his parents. His history, as explained by his uncle is such: His mother, a sylvan, had fallen in love with a half-elven adventurer who had sought shelter with them, and had run off with him. A few months later, she returned home, her love having sent her away upon learning of her pregnancy. Upon returning her brother took her in, looking after her despite the scorn of many within the community. She did not, unfortunately, survive his birth. As a dying request, she asked her brother to look after her son. He grudgingly agreed. As a compromise with the elders, the baby was labeled Taryk, half soul in the ancient (Iruaric) tongue, and forbidden his sylvan family name, Leavswifter.

Growing up in a sylvan community wasn't easy as a half breed. Few accepted him outside of his cousin Trawelk. Outside of chores, his time was spent with his uncle and cousin, learning the basics of swordplay, or more often, with a semi-hermitic herbalist on the outskirts of the community. From her he learned about herbs and their medicinal qualities, as well as basics of the runes used on magical scrolls.

His adoptive uncle and aunt were killed in a particularly savage ogre raid. After helping tend to the dead and wounded, he and his cousin headed off to find their fate in the great walled fortress of Ta'Vaalor. Although bitter and angry at first, and expecting prejudice from the elven citizens, he was surprised to find that he was accepted into the city and welcomed by several of it's prominent citizens.

He considers Ta'Vaalor his home, and will defend it however he can. While he is not a member of the militia's second unit, he does strongly support it. He only regrets that they will not recognize him as anything more than another citizen without his taking the oath.
