Not only is mission creation rather fun, I need YOU to make some to help
further the Squirrel Brigade's fan following. If you create a mission with enough
quality to get posted here, you get...I don't know, a free subscription to the Squirrel
Brigade's E-mail newspaper with the latest news and updates straight from Qa'Pla Guy's
outbox. Maybe you'll get a cool award and a spot in the Qa'Pla Guy affiliate network,
with a cool image by your name. I'll think of something.
To all you newbies, by "Enough quality to get posted here", I mean that it meets
3 requirements:
1:The mission works-everything in it lines up with the rules to the game.
2:The mission is clean and family friendly, with no profanity.
3:The mission isn't a knock-off of another one at the site.
If you can meet those three requirements, the mission is likely to be published. I
may also "polish" your work a little bit, removing any profanity and just overall helping
out.
The rules to mission creation are relatively simple, with you basically having to
insert each of the things mentioned in the preface to Disco Infernal. I have also created
a template, shown below, that you simply fill-in-the-blanks and have a mission!
THE MISSION TEMPLATE
Section 1:The background story:
Insert your gripping and brilliant, or just silly plot here. You don't need much, just
enough to have a nice backstory.
Section 2:Narrator information:
Take a look at the grid(Available on the downloads page), and mark X and Y coordinates
for the different shops and schools. Define what items are available at what stores, and what
they'll cost. Define the locations of the dungeons, along with the locations of towns and
Non Player Characters. You may want to pull out another copy of the grid and create maps for
the towns and dungeons, with shops or such inside. It's up to you to decide. Other information
that falls into no other category is placed here.
Section 3:The Mission itself:
Here's where you create a mission, step by step. Start with the teaser-for example, one
of the members of your unit gives you a message from a long lost ally, or you discover that a
member of your unit is captured. You now go to Act 1, where you determine where to go, get
more info, or whatnot. Then comes Act 2, the climax where you infiltrate enemy HQ, then Act 3,
the resolution, where the day is saved, la-dee-da. Along the way throughout the entire mission,
there will be Skill Tests. For example, "The unit is captured. Use either motivation or
manipulation for a total roll of 10." All the skill test stuff is covered in the chapters on
skills and stuff. You'll also define "Boss" and optional battles here, with stuff like, "There
is a 3-headed Org as a boss monster at dungeon 2 map location 12X by 15Y" You could also
use the giant grid for creation of a dungeon, as seen in the tutorial or Class Change missions.
Good luck with this part.
Section 4:Monster lists:
The final section is the monster list. This is where you'll define the random monsters.
For example:
Advanced Euphonium Master
Evade=6
Aim=20
Stamina=6
Health=10
Strength=8
HP=32
Special Attacks:Grand Tuba Shockwave-The Euphonium Master blows loudly into the mouthpiece,
causing a shockwave that does 15 damage to every unit but himself in a 5 square radius,
including enemy units.
Roaming area:From 13, 13 to 17, 17
That's all there is to it! Now go out and make your own missions!
If you create a mission, send it to me at The mission
submission address!
