Combat ends when one of the fighting parties is anhiliated. It could be you, it could be them. You just never know, well, unless your unit has all their stats maxed out. Then it becomes a bit more obvious. Still, you must defeat all the enemies to get any of the loot or stats associated with victory.
The amount and type of loot you gain during combat is determined by the monsters you fight. This is decided on a mission-by-mission basis, and is too broad to discuss in this section. I instead opt to do an amazingly short section. For the types of loot you can get, check out the List of Itemy Things section. If no types of loot are specified in the Monster section, they leave no loot.
As I mention in another section, you can raise one stat by one point for every 2 monsters you defeat. You can only raise your stats after combat. While I acknowledge that this is not the greatest system for raising stats(Beat 800 or 900 enemies and your stats are maxed out), I wanted to get this site posted before Chritmas. In the Expansion Pack, I'm going to swap to the old RPG standard of Experience and Levels. Until then, you're stuck with this. Enjoy.
