Class Features:

  • Weapon and Armor Proficiencies
    Wizards are proficient with the Basic Weapons group plus the Crossbows group.

  • Spells
    A wizard casts arcane spells. She is limited to a certain number of spells of each spell level per day, according to her class level. A wizard does not have to memorize a new selection of spells each day. Once he has memorized a roster of spells, they stay in memory until such time as he wishes to "swap" one or more out.
    At any time, under suitable reading conditions, a wizard may opt to release one or more spells from memory, and study a replacement or replacements from his spellbook. Each replacement spell takes 1 minute per spell level to memorize.
    Please note that swapping out a spell does not grant further spell points at that time, if any were depleted before studying. You are simply exchanging knowledge of one spell for another. Only normal rest can regenerate your spell point pool.

    To learn, prepare, or cast a spell, a wizard must have an Intelligence score of at least 10 + the spell's level. A wizard's bonus spells are based on Intelligence. The Difficulty Class (DC) for saving throws against wizard spells is 10 + the spell's level + the wizard's Intelligence modifier.
    If you are unable to cast a spell of a higher level slot that the class grants because of the above restriction, you may memorize an extra lower level spell of your choice from a level that you are able to cast. You still gain the spell points of the appropriate level, even if you cannot actually cast a spell of your highest level.

    Unlike bards and sorcerers, wizards may know any number of spells, and have any number of spells in their spellbook.

  • Bonus Languages
    A wizard may substitute Draconic for one of the bonus languages available to the character because of her race, since many ancient tomes of magic are written in Draconic and apprentice wizards often learn it as part of their studies.

  • Familiar
    A wizard can summon a familiar in exactly the same manner as a Sorcerer.

  • Craft Magic Item
    A wizard gains the Craft Magic Item feat as a bonus feat, enabling her to create magic items. In addition, the wizard is already able to use the Scribe Scroll subcategory.

  • Bonus Feat
    Every five levels, a wizard gains a bonus Feat. This Feat must be a metamagic feat, an item creation feat, or Spell Mastery (see below). Please note that these bonus feats are in addition to those gained normally with each character level advancement.

    In addition, Epic wizards may also choose from the following feats when they gain a bonus feat: Augmented Alchemy, Automatic Quicken Spell, Automatic Silent Spell, Automatic Still Spell, Combat Casting, Craft Epic Magic Items, Efficient Item Creation, Enhance Spell, Epic Spell Focus, Epic Spell Penetration, Epic Spellcasting, Familiar Spell, Ignore Material Components, Improved Combat Casting, Improved Heighten Spell, Improved Metamagic, Improved Spell Capacity, Intensify Spell, Multispell, Permanent Emanation, Spell Focus, Spell Knowledge, Spell Mastery, Spell Penetration Spell Stowaway, Spell Opportunity, Spontaneous Spell, Tenacious Magic.

  • Spell Slot
    Epic level wizards gain additional spell slots according to the class table above. They also gain additional spell points when the bonus spell slots are gained. These slots may be used either for the purposes of metamagically enhanced spell limits, or to prepare additional spells of levels 1st through 9th.

  • Spellbooks
    Wizards begin play with a spellbook containing all 0 level spells, plus three 1st level spells of the players choice. For each point of Intelligence bonus the wizard has, the spellbook holds one additional 1st level spell. Each time the wizard achieves a new level, she gains two new spells of any level or levels that she can cast (according to her new level). The wizard can also add spells found in other wizard's spellbooks.
