Appearance: Standing at six feet four inches and weighing 180 pounds, Ben inherited the tall, slender Buchanan stature along with the dark hair and sharp features. However his eyes are those of his mother and seem to hint at something hidden beneath his quietness. He primarily dresses down, sticking to t-shirts, jeans, and hoodie, anything comfortable.

Personality: Although he bears a remarkable physical resemblance to his father, Ben’s heart and demeanor are very much his mother Amber’s. Ben is the epitome of the ‘strong, silent type’, the ’reluctant hero.’ Like his mother and paternal grandmother, Ben is good listener, more apt to provide a shoulder to cry on than to unload his feelings onto someone else. While extremely protective of those he cares about, Ben has a stubborn independent streak and, though subtle and subdued, is almost always detectable.

History: Ben was born the only son of a career Army officer--a doctor-- and spent most of his childhood being moved around the country, not to mention the world, from one base to another as his father moved up in rank.

As Lt. Col. Connor Buchanan’s only child, Ben grew up feeling that he himself had been pressed into the service of the United States Army. Connor ran his household and dealt with his family much like he did the units under his command, by issuing orders and demanding obedience and excellence from both his wife and his son.

Following his parents’ divorce the eventual re-marriage of his father to a much younger woman, and his mother’s death from cancer, Ben withdrew even further into himself, focusing on his schoolwork and avoiding his father at every turn. Eventually, Ben’s focus paid off and he graduated from high school a semester early but any freedom he thought he would have was quickly threatened when Connor began pushing for his son to follow in his footsteps and pursue a career in the military.

Growing tired of his father’s bullying and to avoid the plan his father had laid out for his life, disappeared with only his bike and a small backpack with him. Two weeks later, he showed up at his grandmother’s door-step and found himself being ‘coerced’ into staying with her for a time.
