Psi basics

Intro-

Earthbound is a standard Rpg in its basic mechanics, but beyond that it's completely different. Throughout this game you will encounter some messed up crap, one minute you'll be trying to save the world, the next you will be dukeing it out with a cup of coffee or taking out the police; every time you think it can't get any weirder…. It does. I won't go into any detail in this section about the cool things you find in this world because that’s the most fun part of the game.

Naming Meanings

In the beginning of the game you get to choose a bunch of names. Some of them are obvious (like main characters name) others aren't obvious. To make it easier, I will use all the standard " don't care" names.

"Him" - Main Character (Ness)

"Her" - Second Character (Paula)

"Friend" - Third Character (Jeff)

"Another Friend" - Fourth Character (Poo)

"Pet" - Dog (King)

"Favorite Food" - What you get when your mom cures you (Steak)

"Favorite Thing" - Name of ness's psi ability (Rockin)

Fighting

A basic rpg style battle system. Its menu based (you pick your plan of action). It's not real time like chrono trigger or final fantasy 6. Each Character has his or her own menu of things they can do in battle. Here they are:

Ness Battle - attack with equipped weapon

Defend - take half damage but don't attack

Item - use an item

Psi - use a psi skill

Run away - run from the battle

Auto - auto battle does the fighting for you.

Paula She has the same as ness but without run or auto

Prayer - random battle effects, crucial in the final battle

Jeff Spy - checks enemy's life weaknesses and sees if the enemy has an item

Poo Mirror - transforms into enemy selected

The enemies in this game are not random, they are similar to the enemies in chrono trigger, you see them and they run after you, if you touch them the battle starts. One cool part about this is that you can avoid a lot of pointless time wasting fights. If your lvl and overall strength is very high compared to that of the enemies and the enemy touches you, you may automatically win the fight. This is cool because if planned correctly you can rank up some serious exp. without fighting anything; places where you can do this will be discussed more in the walkthrough.

Psi Basics

Psi is just earthbound's word for magic. You don't learn them form items or anything like that. You learn psi abilities as you grow. Poo learns 2 skills from a person but again things like that will be discussed in the walkthrough. A complete list of psi abilities is listed in the psi list section of the guide.

Psi abilities are put into 3 different categories, attack, support and recover. the main psi skill is then broken up into powers. The powers are, in order of power, A, B (what I'm going to call C), and infinite. The first skill you learn in the game is lifeup A.I think that’s about it on psi abilities.

Intro

I obviously missed a great deal of the characters, I hope I didn't miss any major ones, but other that the main characters and the main enemy I don't think any others need to be explained. I'll revise this section as I write the walkthrough.

Ness

The main character of earthbound, and an unlikely hero. He's short (actually all the people in this game are short) and young. He's from the country of eagleland and the town of onett. He lives with his mother, sister and possibly his father. He is the only person who can use psi special (the most powerful type of attack in the game) and for a reasonably long part of the game he's the only character you have. You have him only from the start to after the death of carpenter and then again throughout the dream sequence. His main type of weapon is the bat (which he is very good at using). He has the highest attack and guts. Like most main characters he's kind of unfairly stronger than the other characters, the only other character that even comes close to him overall is Poo. There is no point in the game where you don't have him, so get used to him.

Paula

Paula is the second playable character you meet in earthbound. She is the psychic character. With the ability to cause crazy effects in battle with her prayer and strong psi attacks. She learns all psi-blocking shields (covered in the psi section). Although she can be a pain to raise when you first get her, she will soon grow to be a welcome addition to your party. With her freeze, fire, thunder, and even her psi magnet draining skills, she is a fairly powerful character. Nearing the end of the game you will notice that her and Jeff do about the same physical damage, so she's not as worthless later in the game. She is also from eagleland and is from the town of twoson (even though you find her in the happy-happy village.

Jeff

Jeff is the third character you met in your quest. He bails you out of a trap you get yourself into in threed. His major plus is his great skills involving machines. Although he's kind of a bed-wetter Nancy-boy, he does pack a wallop with his ray guns. The real reason why you want him around is his ability to use bottle rockets. Bottle rockets are his replacement for his lack of psi abilities. Although you make think that bottle rockets are a poor replacement for magic, you'd be mistaken. Bottle rockets do more damage than anything else in the game, and are a must have for the final boss. There are only three real down sides to bottle rockets. One is they don't always hit. Two is that the are disposable, so they take up inventory space. A third down side is that they only hit one enemy at a time. I guess you could say they are expensive as well, but they are easy to use and can take out the last sanctuary boss in 2 hits. Jeff is a good character, but only if used right. Just use physical attacks or if it’s a boss, take it out with a bottle rocket.

Poo

Poo is the fourth and final character you can get in earthbound. He doesn't have much of a tie to the other characters and in my opinion was a filler character. Despite that fact that the way you get him makes no sense and he has nothing to do with the plot, he is a great character. However, unlike Ness, he has a great deal of weaknesses. For one thing, you don't get him until well over half of the game has been completed. Then after a small amount of time with him, he leaves. Then a while later he returns with his new "powerful" skill. Starstorm is a weak attack, but for is psi energy cost it's not worth it. Starstorm two is a good skill that is almost as powerful as ness's most powerful skill. Also porbably the biggest flaw of poo is his equipment. All of the characters have there own specific type of weapon, and there are weapons that everyone can use (slingshots and Yo-yos). All of the characters use the same type of accessory and armor (Paula has ribbons, but she doesn't have to use them). Poo however has only 4 things he can equip, 3 of, which, aren't that hard to find. The fourth however you may never get. There is a type of enemy in one specific part of the game that has a 1/100 chance of dropping poo's only weapon. It had to be the weapon too. His lack of equipment makes him a little less of a character, but if he's fully equipped he is almost as good as ness. He has more psi and has better shields than anyone else in the game. His special technique is mirror. With mirror you transfer poo into the monster you target. It’s a good idea and it sounds powerful, but most of the time it doesn't work (I almost always avoid it). For poo, either use his current best psi, or if he has his weapon, use physical attacks.

Pokey

Pokey is ness's fat neighbor and surprisingly the main antagonist in the game. He briefly joins you in the beginning of the game to find his brother picky. After you save picky and return them home, pokey and picky get punished. For some reason he leaves onett and travels through the world. Most of the game is ness chasing picky. For some unknown reason he also gains control of giygas, the most powerful being in the world. You would think there would be more to say about the main enemy in a game, but there isn't. In fact the plot isn't that great. But the game makes up for its shallow plot by being funny and fun to play.

Picky

If you thought there wasn't much to say about pokey, prepare to be amazed. Picky is pokey's brother….uhhh. He joins you from the meteor rock to his house. That’s about it.

King

I've noticed something about this game; there really aren't that many characters. King is ness's dog. He can join you in the very beginning of the game. He runs away when you get to the meteor rock because he thinks its scary (the real reason is so buzz-buzz can join you).

Mom

Ness's mom: she doesn't play that big of a part in terms of the plot, but she does do several things for you. The first thing she does is she restores your health whenever you talk to her. Another thing she does is that occasionally ness will get homesick. In order to rid yourself of homesickness (which by the way will make you not attack at random because he's "think of his mom") you have to call your mom on the phone or make a trip back to your house. The third and final thing she does is she introduces you to an item transfer system.

Dad

Ness's dad is a funny character. For one thing, he doesn't show himself at all throughout the entire game. The only way you can talk to him is through the phone. He also does several things: he saves your game via the phone, he gives you all of your money in your bank account (which he borrows from your neighbor, yes the same neighbor that is the main enemy in the game). He also bothers you if you haven't quit in a while.

Dr. Andonuts

Dr. Andonuts is Jeff's dad. He lives in winters by stone hedge (yes, stone hedge). He plays a very important roll in terms of the plot. When you play as Jeff only, he has to borrow his father's machine to get to threed and help you out of the cave where the zombies have you prisoner. He also is responsible for the eraser-eraser machine, the phase disorder 1 and the phase disorder 2. The phase disorder 2 is what you use to get to the final battle in the game. He is also the person who changes all of the characters into robots in order to go to the future and fight pokey and giygas.

Monkey

Yes the monkey. The monkey helps you when you are just Jeff as well. You find him in a drug store in winters and you have to pay a dollar to get him .He is surprisingly a playable character. He does a couple things. For one thing he can't be killed do he's pretty much walking damage. Not only that, but using his… bubble gum… he can blow a bubble and fly briefly helping you out in two specific parts of the game. These parts will be discussed in detail in the walkthrough section of the guide. Theirs more of a bio for the monkey than there is for main enemy in the game.

Jeff's friend

Jeff's friend joins him before he leaves the orphanage he lives in. he then leaves just before you get out of the orphanage. His role in the game is that Jeff uses him a step to jump a fence and he calls you later in the game a couple of times to ask you to put your name in. other than that he's pointless.

Master Belch/Barf

He's another reason why this game is messed up. He's a major antagonist in the game. You end up fighting him twice, as master belch the first time and as master barf the second time. The first time you fight him he's blocking you from leaving threed and you have to go to Saturn valley to get to him. The second time you fight him is at the end of the deep darkness. He's blocking your path (wouldn't this make a great movie), this is where you get poo for the second time and he has his new "strong" power. Neither fight is all that hard. In the first fight you give

Mr. Saturns

Mr. Saturn's are little pink guys with bows on their heads. They live in Saturn valley and speak horrid English. They play a big part because you leave or the future from Saturn valley. There is no head Mr. Saturn.

Mr. Carpainter

Mr. carpainter is the guy who starts up happy-happy village. He wants to paint the world blue, so he starts up a cult where people where blue KKK robes and paint everything blue. He's also the guy that has Paula captive.

Runaway Five

The runaway five are the band of five people that play a surprisingly large part in the game. They are big in twoson, and in fourside as well. You have to buy their freedom from a contract twice. The first time its ten thousand the second time it’s a giant diamond. They also save you from a robot by, turning it off.

Venus

Venus is the runaway fives replacement in fourside after you by their freedom. She plays a small part. Before you can get to the area where the 5 sanctuary is you have to get her to sign a banana for a scientist.

Giygas

Giygas is the final boss of the game, although he's not the main antagonist. He's strong enough to take over and destroy the world but apparently weak enough to be controlled by a little fat kid. He changes forms multiple times when you fight him, after he takes a certain amount of damage he becomes unstable and can be killed by praying.

Tendas

Tendas are a small teal colored people who happen to be very shy. There are however two tendas who will talk to you. The strong one and the leader will talk to you. The strong one picks a rock, revealing a path and the leader tells you to get the shyness book. There are also prehistoric tendas in the underworld. They will talk but aren't that important.

Flying men

Flying men are nothing but temporary party members when you are in ness's dream world. They usually die, but as they die they get stronger. The last one you get is pretty strong

Apple kid

You give the apple kid food then you give him $200; in return he gives you a seemingly useless item. He gives you the pensile eraser, which erases pencil statues. He also assists dr. andonuts on his work with the phase disorder.

Buzz-buzz

Buzz-buzz is a temporary character that you get on the meteor rock. He is responsible for giving you the sound stone (which you use to record the sounds at each sanctuary locations). He assists you in 1 fight and 1 fight only and that’s with the Starman Jr. he gets killed by pokeys mother because she thinks it’s a dung beetle.

Sister

Not really an important character but she does do 2 things. She gives you a cookie in the beginning of the game and she stores items for you. She even does it via the phone later in the game.

The Beginning

The first thing that happens in earthbound is a cut scene. It tells you where you are and what the date is. When it finally gets to your house, there will be a sound and the screen will shake. You will then gain control of ness. Once you have control head out of ness's room and into the second floor hallway. I usually go into the room to the north. This is your sister's room. If you talk to her she won't say much. Go to the present on the lower left-hand corner of her room. Use "check" on it and it will say you "got a cracked bat". This is the first weapon you will get in the game. To equip it, press "A", and select equip. Press weapon, and select the cracked bat. Your attack will change from 2 to 6. Leave your sisters room and go down the stairs on the left side of the screen. Once on the first floor, talk to your mother and she will advise you not to go outside. She will then tell you that if you are going outside you should at least change out of your jammies. The screen will pan out and you will be in your room with clothes on. Leave your room again and go down the stairs. This time, don't talk to your mom. Just walk to the far right side of the house and leave.

When you are outside your house, head directly south. Then travel the path going west (the one with all the cops on it). When the path going west stops, go north. You will see a split in the path, go right and you should see a present. Again use "check" on the present. You will get a bread roll. The bread roll will recover your life if you use it. To use an item like a bread roll or cookie, press "A" and select goods. Then select the item you want to use (in battle it’s the same process). Once you have the bread roll head north. Don't go to the house, turn right and head to the blockade. Talk to the fat kid with blond hair (pokey) and listen to his little speech. Once he's done talking you should leave. There are no enemies this time, however next time you come here there will be. Follow the same path back to your house. Your mom should be blocking the door. Walk into her and she'll start talking. The screen will pan out again.

When the screen pans back in, a loud knocking sound from downstairs will awake you. Leave your room again and head into the hallway. This time your sister will be in the hallway. Go downstairs and walk to the door. It's pokey. He'll start talking about how the police are busy with the sharks (you'll have to deal with them later). He'll ask you if you will help him find his brother picky, say yes (if you say no he'll just keep bugging you until you say yes). Your mom will then ask you to take you dog king with you for protection. You don't have to, but I recommend it. Talk to him to get him to join you. If you try to leave pokey will insist that you say goodbye to your mother. Talk to your mom again and she will make you change your clothes. Head back downstairs and attempt to leave again. This time pokey will insist that you answer your phone. "Check" the phone and talk to your dad. Listen to what he has to say and then if you want to you can save your game by calling him again. Now you can finally leave.

With pokey and king, you are ready to do some fighting. In this area you should stick to fighting runaway dogs. There are snakes and crows, but they really aren't worth it. Snakes can poison you and only give 1 exp. Crows can steal from you and can cause some massive damage. Dogs however, can't steal or poison and give 4 exp. I recommend you keep fighting until you've levels u to level 5. This will take some time however. (This game is based on a lvl system. Your stats will grow as you kill enemies and lvl up. You also gain psi skills as you level up.) If you kill 1 dog you gain 4 exp. and lvl up to level 2. At lvl 2 you learn life-up A, and at lvl 4 you learn hypnosis A. Another tip for gaining exp. is if your hp gets low, return to your house and talk to your mother. She will give you your favorite food and you ill fully recover. At lvl 2 your stats should be offense - 7 and everything else 2. Also, one last piece of advice, your father deposits money in your bank account based on how much exp. you gain (that’s why you don't get money after each fight).

Save after you've gotten to level 5 and then head back outside. Once outside your house head back one the path to the meteor rock. When you get to the meteor rock you will notice that the police barricade is gone; you can now travel up to the rock. When you get close, king will complain about how He's scared. He'll run away and you can walk up to picky (the blond kid sleeping). On your way by the meteor, pokey will ask you if you here a buzzing sound. Say yes and Buzz-buzz will appear in a flash of yellow light. Listen to Buzz-buzz explain who he is, why he's here and what your mission is. Buzz-buzz will then join you. Head back through the long path (notice that there are no enemies now that you have Buzz-buzz). When you get back to just before you can see your house, a starman will appear and talk to Buzz-buzz. He will then attack you.

Boss Fight - Starman Jr. (rec. lvl 5)

Buzz-buzz will do most of the work for you. He will cast psi shield E that will protect you from the starman's powerful magic. If you want to you can use hypnosis to help out Buzz-buzz, otherwise just bash or defend. This is the easiest boss in the game mainly because you don't have to fight it at all.

Once the starman Jr. has been defeated, head north until you reach the T in the path. This time, don't head to your house: go to your neighbor's house to the left of ness's. Once inside of the house, head to the far-left side. Pokey and picky's father will be sitting on the couch. Talk to him, and he will apologize for your trouble. He will then take pokey and picky upstairs and "punish" them. When he comes back down he will tell you how he is sick of your father borrowing money from him; almost $100,000(this is where your father gets all the money to give to you). Then Pokey's mother will talk to you. She will apologize for her husband's behavior. Finally she will see Buzz-buzz and think it’s a dung beetle. Thinking Buzz-buzz was a dung beetle; she hits him and he falls to the floor. At this point you will have control again; talk to the decapitated Buzz-buzz. Doing so will start a relatively long conversation about your adventure. This is important because this is where you get the sound stone. The sound stone is what you use to record "your sanctuary locations". Say yes the first time he asks your something, say no the second time (that is unless you missed something and want to here it again). Buzz-buzz will end his oration by informing you that it's already morning. Go outside and you've finished the beginning of earthbound and are ready to start on the Onett chapter.

Onett

Onett begins when you leave Pokey's house. Once outside, the sun will rise and the onett music will begin (isn't the grass bright, enough to give some people seizures). The first thing you should do is head back toward your house. Right before you can go into your house, you are stopped and the music changes. A guy with a top hat (the photographer) will jump from nowhere, ask you to smile, take your picture, and then leave. These pictures have no real purpose in the game except you can look at them at the end of the game. Once he has made you say "fuzzy pickles" and jumped back up into the sky, head into your house. Talk to your mother and she will make you eat your favorite food then go to bed. Head back down stairs like you've done so many times before. On your way out stop at the phone and call you dad. Once you've gotten him on the phone, ask him to save your game. Leave your house and head to the right. You will see a path heading south. Go south down the path (you will probably see a snake here). Follow the path left until you see the big building. Walk into the building and talk to the woman at the big desk. She will inform you that kids can't take out books (other than the book of shyness, which you get here later in the game). She does however, inform you that kids can borrow maps. Borrow the town map from her and leave the library.

Leave the library and head down until you reach the dirt path. Head northwest following the path. Stop when the path makes a ~ shape. Head right and you will see a dirty kid and a break in the trees. Walk into the break and head left in the trees until you can't. Then head up, if done correctly you should enter a kids hideout. Talk to the small kid in the red cap, the kid that wants to be just like you, and he will give you a "Mr. Baseball Cap". At this point you should press the "A" button. Select equip and then hit "other". Equip the Mr. baseball cap and your defense you increase drastically (mine went from 4 to 10). Leave the little shack and head back to the dirt path. From the dirt path, head pack the way you came in, and stop at the "T". Go down the T this time. Eventually you should reach a paved road. Head into the middle of the street and turn left. Continue to walk left until you reach the drug store. Walk into the drug store and then to the ATM. Use "check" on the ATM. Select withdraw and then take out around $200. Once you've gotten the cast, walk to the guy with the glasses on and talk to him. Select buy and a list of stuff will pop up. Move the cursor to tee ball bat and hit "A". Hit ok and then yes to "do you want to equip it her". Sell the cracked bat. Do the same with the cheap bracelet. Then leave the drug store.

Once outside, head down the "T" in the paved street to the left. I recommend you lvl up until somewhere between lvl's 8 and 10. The best place to lvl in onett (so far) is the game arcade. It's at the southern most part of the actual town. You will be beat the crap out of street punks in shark costumes (this is earthbound). Continue down the road until you reach a second "T". Go down the "T", you should reach the area next to the pizza place (mach pizza). At this point you may be running to some shark punks. Fight then, but don’t take too many of em’ on at a low level. Continue leave the area and coming back until you’ve fought enough to be on level 8.

Once you’ve completed the tedious task of leveling up to lvl 8, you are ready to attack frank in the game arcade. Enter the game arcade. Head left, you will be attacked by one punk. Take him out and continue left. Don’t go up the stairs, rather talk to the punk guard the door to the north. He will ask you if you want to become a member of the sharks (even if you do, you can’t). if you say yes the punk will tell you to come back once you’ve beaten earthbound. Say no and he will call you a snob, then attack you. Take him out as well and you’ve freed the exit to where frank is hiding out. Talk to frank, he will tell you to at least tell him your name, he will then attack you.

Boss Fight – Frank (rec. lvl 8)

This fight isn’t too tough id you raised yourself up to the recommended lvl of 8. Don’t waist your PP on frank. I recommend you carry a couple of hamburgers before you attack him, but it’s not really necessary at this point. If you should happen to have no hamburgers (the shark punks drop them frequently, so you probably don’t need to buy any at all) use life up, but try to save at least 20 PP for the nest fight. Attack frank with your physical attack. Other than that, just recover if your hp get lower than 20-25.

Once frank has been beaten he will yell out that he can’t be beaten. He will then attack you again, this time with a robot called Frankenstein mark 2.

Boss Fight – Frankenstein mark two (rec. lvl 8-9)

You would think this fight would be harder, but really it isn’t. It won’t attack every time and it doesn’t do that much when it does. For my fight it attacked every other turn for 13 damage, where as frank attacked every turn for 20 damage. Use rockin A twice and he’ll die. He should hit you zero to one time.

After you’ve destroyed Frankenstein mark two, frank will inform you that this is the first time he has ever been defeated. He will then say the fail proof frank is now just failure frank. Frank will then tell you about your first "your sanctuary" locations, giant step. Then he’ll inform you that a monster is guarding the power at giant step (titanic ant). The final thing he says is that you should go to the town hall and get the shack key from the mayor. He will then magically become your friend. If you leave the screen and come back you can be recovered by talking to him.

Your next task is to get to the town hall. First leave franks area by going into the game arcade from the back. Once inside the arcade, head left, the same punk that attacked you earlier should stop you. He will say something like "yeah" and then you can leave out the door on the right. Once outside, head left on the main road. Head up when the road stops going left (to the right of the hospital). Follow the road up until you see a "T". Head right from the "T" until you see a manhole. From the manhole, head up (in between the columns of bushes. You will see the town hall, enter it by walking up the steps. Once inside, head left until you reach a door. Enter the door, and you should see a woman sitting at a desk. Ignore her and head directly to the left again. Go up the stairs and you will reach the mayors room. Once inside you will see a cop, some furniture and a bald guy, ignore all of them. Head right until you see a guy sitting behind a large desk. Talk to him from the opposite side of the desk. He will introduce him self as mayor Pirkle, then get right to the point. He will tell you what you already know about how you beat up the sharks. He will then praise you. You will ask (some how without saying a word) for the shack key. He will give it too you, under one condition, that is he is not responsible for anything that happens to you. He will ask you if you agree to these terms, do so. He will then fork over the key.

Head left from the mayor’s room, then back down the same stairs you came up. Head right until you reach the door again. Go through the door, then to the right again. Go back through the door on the right to get back outside. Once outside, head down until you reach the road again. This time, you should head right on the main road. Stop at the stop sign and head up towards the white dog. Walk right on by the dog and keep heading up. Head left from the "T"(the one where you can see the "ONETT TOWN" sign). Stop when you see the dirk path heading upwards. Follow the path up until you reach the "T" by the library. Head left, then continue to follow the path. Walk right on by the mole and the sign. Stop by the strange looking twin guys. Walk up to the shack until you get the "LOCKED" message. Without moving, press "A" and select good. In your goods, select "SKACK Key" and hit use. If done right the door should be unlocked. Go into the shack. Immediately go back the way you came. Talk to both of twins, one of them will give you a travel charm. A travel charm is armor in this game. Press "A" and select equip. Select "BODY", then select "travel charm" and press "A" again. Although the travel charm doesn’t increase your defense, (like you think it would) it does however prevent you from being paralyzed. Head back into the shack, this time head through the hole on the left. You will be outside the shack on the other side of the fence. There will be a small cave opening to your north. Go into the cave.

This is the cave to get to the sanctuary location. This is also a good training ground, you will be here for a while so get used to it. I will cover the first couple of levels first (because that is where you will be training). The first thing you will see is an open cave. Head left until you see a mouse. Stop and the mouse will stop, walk and the mouse will walk. You might as well walk towards it. Get into the fight, it’s a rowdy mouse. Rowdy mice are usually two hits to kill, I don’t recommend doing a lot of your training here amongst the mice. The problem with them is there massive guts rating. On the off chance they don’t get a smash attack they usually only do 1 damage. Most of the time you will see a massive "SMACK" and you will take 12 damage. Not good, mainly because the mice don’t give much exp. (34/per). Continue heading left(you may see some dots running around on the ground). If you do see dots in a large group (3 or more) its usually a pack of slugs, this is what you want to train on. Hey are insanely easy to kill and give a heap of exp. They try to cast spells, but never succeed and I’ve never had one deal more than 3 damage to me. The objective here is to reach lvl 14 before attacking the titanic ant. Basically once you taken out that 1 mouse, you should be able to just go back and forth from the cave on the left to just before you see the mouse without seeing anything but slugs and the occasional ant. Avoid more than one ant (especially on lvls 8-10). In the cave on the left there will generally be 1 ant, you can attack it, but be aware that ants do about 12 damage without a smack and will often call for help. Once you get to lvl 10 the training becomes much easier. You can now kill 1 ant without getting into a fight at all. Just go into the cave on the bottom left, if there is 1 ant in the cave, walk into it, if there is none or more leave and then repeat the process for free exp. Keep doing this until you have lved up to lvl 14. (Note, like always, if you see a butterfly, walk into it for some free PP). If you go all the way up to the top of the cave (when you’re training), and leave, right outside there is a small area that 9 times out of ten has a magic butterfly. Come here when you run out of pp.

From the "Ant Cave", head directly right then up the rope. Once on top of the rope, head right all the way to the far right side. There will be another rope going up here, go up it. When you’ve reached the third level of the cave, head left. Keep going left until you see an opening, go through the opening and you will be outside. This area just outside is the magic butterfly area (most of the dungeon areas have one, some don’t however). Use life up a, if you need it, before you get the butterfly again if you need it). You should see another cave opening on the other side of the magic butterfly area. Go into that cave opening. You will be in yet another cave. This one is short though, just head up and a little to the right to get to the other opening. Once you go into the other opening, you will be in a tiny, strait, ant-ridden room. Go into the left opening to get to the final part before the boss. The next area is skinny and tall. You should immediately see a rope, climb it. When you get to the top, you will see another rope, climb it as well. Once on the top, you will see a shiny, blinking star like thing. This is your first sanctuary boss, and the easiest of them all. Use "check" on it to start the battle. When it begins to talk, it will say something like "this was your first sanctuary location, but its mine now, try to take it if you dare". Then the battle will start (good luck).

Boss fight – Titanic Ant (rec. lvl – 14)

Start the battle off by quickly using rockin a. this should get rid of the little ants, and cause some damage to the ant. At this point I usually use shield A for my second attack, then physical attacks from then on. I also try to use paralysis for my third attack, if it works, it should last for the remainder of the fight, making it considerably easier than it already is. Of course I take turns to use life up A, when your HP gets lower than 40. Once the ant is killed, head strait through the previously blocked cave opening. This is your first "sanctuary location". You walk near the giant footprint and your sound stone will activate. It will record this areas sound and recover you; that’s about it for that. Head back into the cave opening and back down the ropes. Head back into the tiny room, then down so you’re in the butterfly area. Go back down the huge area (notice that the enemies are running away from you now that you’ve killed their leader, this happens most of the time). When you go outside your in for a surprise.

It’s a cop, telling you that you’ve broken a law by going into the cave because there is a sign that says, "Do not enter". Remember when the mayor said that he wasn’t responsible for you if you get into trouble; that’s called foreshadowing kids…
