Dr. Cain has been at the archeological dig again. He mentioned to me he found some odd readings at location E-46 recently so will move his digging there. I'm a little disheartened by the fact that we haven't found anything. A couple of friends of mine have decided tomorrow we might investigate the mountains far south. Dr. Cain gave his go-ahead thankfully, so we have enough time to prepare, and don't run the risk of being chastised.

Subject: Mountain Discoveries.

Against ALL of our expectations, we found a hidded storage facility within the mountains, after Reese fell down into a deceptively shallow crevice. It's amazing. We didn't stop exploring even though we were almost unprepared for this find. The whole place is mostly scrapped, but deep within it, we found two astounding discoveries. This storage was part of one of the infamous Dr. Wily's backup plans. Apparently, it was used not too long before the Cataclysm too. Buried within it are many failed, almost totally wrecked or cannabalised robots. However, one capsule contains an almost fully complete machine. It's fairly primitive judging from the data I managed to leech off the inactive systems, but it's easily expandable. I can only assume that Dr. Wily deemed this particular robot a failiure. He didn't even give it a name or any core programming. In the next few days I will research this machine and perhaps even find out exactly what happened... All of our four strong have decided not to tell Dr. Cain about this find. Dr. Cain is brilliant, yes, but we fear that he might utterly dismiss this find because of the originator...

Subject: Further discoveries

Although I hate to do it, I must admit that even Dr. Wily had his sparks of genius, even if they were Evil and Delusional... This robot is a sheer masterpiece of Pre-Cataclysm technology... He intended to build the machine in order to infiltrate the humans. It looks almost fully human outside of its armour! Indeed, with a few modifications, it would be. This robot is formed in the image of a young boy of about 15 years of age, and I dare say if he were real he'd grow up to be a real Lady Killer. His skin is warm to the touch, and he even bleeds synthetic "blood" which is actually a rather clever, although primative, coolant for his internal systems. His normal body has a built in auto repair system, so he even "Heals" over a long period of time. However, his lack of core programming is due to Wily's repeated, and frustrating attempts to create a sophisticated enough AI to fool humans. Thankfully he gave up before he could ever finish. If this robot was completed, he may have well taken over the world... I shall transport the robot, and his repair pod to my lab in secrecy during the night where my comrades and I will work on him. He may have been created for evil, but if perhaps if I could change that... Maybe I could create something that would impress Dr. Cain and even gain his full respect...

Subject: Interesting revelations

So that's what Dr Cain was hiding. He had found the legendary Dr. Light's laboratory and recovered a robot named "X" which is almost exactly what Wily was trying to work towards. A nearly human AI. I have seen the effects for myself. X is incredibly intelligent. He thinks, feels, and decides for himself! On this note, I have decided to conduct a secret experiment... I will take a copy of X's core programming, and after physically altering my own find, who I have named RavenZero, implant my own version of the code into him and see just how adaptable Light's code really is.

Date: November 27th
Subject: Progress Report 1

RavenZero's body finally looks like a real human boy of his age. The only way someone could tell the difference is if he told them, if they analysed his "blood", which I changed for a new updated coolant, or if he was severely damaged or dismembered in some way. I have also discovered many of the secrets of Dr Light's program core, but both myself and Dr. Cain are still baffled as to the real secrets behind it. Dr. Light was indeed an incredible genius. One of the finest this Earth has ever seen...

Subject: Control

No experiment is complete without a control. For this process, I have created a Reploid, using Dr Cain's method, and I have named her Celeen. She has no battle abilities as of yet, but she is highly strategical, and learns very quickly. With luck she will be like a sister to RavenZero.

Subject: Progress Report 2

I have begun making alterations to the code here and there, and I have already begun archiving a historical database for RavenZero. When the time comes, I intend to truely test Dr. Light's FreeThought AI. With no past, no prime directives, and no primary mission, RavenZero will be asked to make his own decision on what to do with his life based upon what history teaches him. This will be a long task, but I hope to have it finished by the end of the year...

Subject: Mavericks

The spate of "Maverick" reploid attacks is becoming increasingly worrying. While X's code was pure, the alterations that Cain made to the Reploids he produced seem to somehow have caused them to attack other humans. Yet nobody knows what causes it. What if RavenZero were to go maverick as well? Not only would my experiment be a failure, but I would have unleashed a terrible evil upon the world... Yet something pushes me on to complete RavenZero. Something within that body calls to me, crying out for release and 'Life'... I just hope I am not deluding myself and willingly risking this world... My other hope is that Sigma, the Reploid leader of the Maverick Hunters does not go Maverick himself...

Subject: Nightmares.

Damn you, Cain... You should have seen this coming. Sigma finally went Maverick. X should have been chosen for the duty, as his code was pure. But instead Cain put more trust in his 'Reploids'... Zero, having taken over from Sigma, should be more reliable however... Hah. I'm beginning to sound like Dr. Cain... I trust in X and Dr. Light's technology however, and I know at least X is safe from becoming a Maverick. As for RavenZero, I shall continue to work upon him... I do not wish for him to be caught up in all the fighting just yet however... My only hope now is that Sigma is stopped before it's too late...

Subject: Release

After a long, tense fight, X was victorious... Although Zero fell in battle, and sacrificed his life to save the humans, Sigma has been defeated... X seems disturbed however. Dr. Cain is currently in the process of acting as X's new Father, and to quite an admirable degree too. As for myself, I have come to the final test... Today, I activated RavenZero, and asked him immediately, what his purpose was to be, from his own point of view, nobody elses... His response surprised me. He asked for more time, and is currently sitting alone pondering his existance and everything that's happened...

Subject: Progress Report: Success!

I am pleased to report a surprising success... When I found Raven this evening, he was in his armour, and just attaching his Pulse Blaster. Before I could even question him, he turned around and said with absolute clarity "Dr Ryan? I have chosen my destiny. I want to help, protect, and defend people as much as I can from harm and evil. I already know what and who I am, since I looked int the files, but I don't mind. I've been blessed with free will, so I will use it." The smile he gave was incredible. I nearly didn't believe he was a machine... Further more, after some false starts, he and Celeen have started to bond like a real brother and sister. This could be the start of something fantastic...
