Jacen Crane, Brujah Primogen

Image: Jacen appears to be a man in his late-forties with an eager expressive face and dark eyes and hair.  When he laughs, he laughs completely, when he smiles, he grins completely.  And when he’s enraged, Hell hath no fury like it.  He has an extraordinarily winning personality and charming persona and milks this for all it’s worth.  He is boisterous, enthusiastic, passionate…and manipulative down to a “T”

Background: Those that still regard the Brujah clan as hopeless iconoclasts or irrelevant thugs had best be wary of Jacen Crane.  A business school graduate from New York, Jacen took his economic know-how and his nearly blinding charisma and went to work in the underworld. Before long he had organized and was running one the largest arms and drug-dealing rings in the city.  Unfortunately this brought him to the attention of a syndicate known as the Tenloss group, a criminal syndicate operated by the Brujah.  Brought to their leader with the intention of making an example out of him, they were impressed with his coolness under pressure and his fiery charisma.  Before long they did decide to kill him, but not permanently, and Jacen Crane became a member of the Brujah of New York.

Unfortunately New York was not a good place to be a Camarilla Brujah at the time and Jacen quickly found himself in a number of tight spots.  Finally his luck ran out and he was confronted by a Sabbat pack.  Once again falling back on his unearthly charisma to save him, Jacen launched into a fiery diatribe about the evils of the Camarilla and a fool-proof way for the pack to come out of all this looking like heroes.  The pack ductus, a greedy and short-sighted man, agreed.  An “evil Tremere curse” prevented Jacen from participating in the Vaulderie, claiming that the warlocks had made his blood poisonous.  Then Crane introduced the pack to the joys of organized crime.  Within months, the pack had assumed a remarkably high position of power. As for the ductus, he had an accident involving an explosion (and a car bomb).  The pack, profiting from Jacen’s expertise and talents of persuasion, unanimously voted him the new ductus of the pack.

The good times came to a crashing end when the Jacen’s pack was ambushed by a group of Giovanni of all things, irked at the pack’s good fortune in the organized crime business.  Jacen unhesitantly left his pack to face the onslaught of gunfire and necromantic magic as he himself jumped a ship heading for Eastern Europe.

Fortunately for the Brujah, his journeys took him to the City of Vistalki just as Prince Alexei was making his bid for power.  Easily making a name for himself, it didn’t take much before Jacen was sitting in the seat of Brujah Primogen.  With a little luck and time, Jacen was able to sit back and watch as Alexei ran the city into the ground, even as Jacen was making a substantial profit.  A few more months and Jacen would be ready to make his bid for Princehood.

The opportunity never came with the arrival of Nicholae.  Before Jacen could even blink he found his business interests overrun or bought-out, his police and political contacts severed and, when Nicholae made his bid for the throne, his hopes of princedom dashed.

Jacen was outraged but kept quiet, he’d waited this long, he could wait a little longer.  Meanwhile he did all he could to subvert the prince’s power wherever he could.  He’s already got Biley, the Sheriff’s second-in-command in his pocket and with him a good portion of the Sheriff’s group.  If only he could subvert the sheriff himself, he’d have the martial forces he’d need to beat back Grant and his blasted Gangrel to make a bid for the princedom himself.

Unfortunately, the Giovanni have long memories and Jacen finds them hounding his steps in the form of Francesca “Bella” Giovanni.  The two are in direct competition with each other for dominion over the criminal underworld of Vistalki.  Meanwhile Grant continues to sabotage Jacen’s interests at every turn and to make matters worse, the Nosferatu now seem dead set on aiding the nuzzling tree-huggers in their endeavors.  For the first time in Jacen’s existence, he finds himself without a lot of friends.  He still poses the dangerous combination of charisma and ambition, however, and is able to get people to listen to what he has to say and thus holds a phenomenal amount of power.  As more and more Brujah enter the city, Jacen welcomes them whole-heartedly and converts them to his cause: total dominion of Vistalki with himself as prince.

Roleplaying Hints: Be all that everyone expects you to be. Smile big, laugh heartily.  Don’t speak, orate.  Every conversation, no matter how mundane, gives you the chance to shine and convert others to your cause.  Seem completely sincere and open, especially when you’re not.  Never lose your cool if you can help it and keep smiling for the cameras.  Enflame hearts and make minds swoon, that is how you’ll become prince.  Get their blood burning in their veins with your words and they’ll follow you to the gates of Hell.
