Project Infinity: Kitty Pryde Logs: October 2002

October 2002: The Vigil (The Sea)

These are logs of roleplay on Project Infinity, a text-based online RPG. I play Kitty Pryde there, a young woman sometimes better known as Shadowcat. Kitty is not by any means my original creation; she belongs to Marvel Comics. The take on her is original, though, as this Kitty's timeline diverges from mainstream continuity close to twenty RL years' worth of comics ago.

October 2002

The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea

October 3: "Leaving now!" IC date more like Sept. 27 or 28. The succubus Mahash has turned her prisoners over to the nest of demons under Hamilton for sacrifice, but Seishi and Jack, with the assistance of Ilistair, break into the demon-lair beneath the Crystal Caves and stage a rescue. Language, violence.
Interlude, unplayed: Ilistair identifies a lethal curse that's been placed on Wisdom. Hoping that removing Pete from the Triangle's area will keep the spell from having its full effect, Kitty puts Pete on a plane back to Beacon Harbor.

October 4: "Someone will have to do it. No matter who it is, there will be someone left behind." Barely a couple of hours after Pete is off the island, another strategy meeting is held. And Kitty is told what the rest of the League already knew: the ritual to bind the demons again demands the sacrifice of three human lives. Carita Valeria has already volunteered. Two more are still needed... Mild language.
Congratulations to Seravina's player, whose phantasms joined RP staff today!

October 7: Interlude. Kitty talks things out to her traditional audience, while watching the weather reports on the approaching Hurricane Isaac, and fielding some phone calls.

'Did you ever think you'd give love / And then take it away...' - Jane Siberry, 'The Vigil (The Sea)'October 9: "What's past help should be past grief." Hurricane Isaac has arrived, and the demons are preparing to ride its flood-tides to freedom. The League assembles to work the spell, to hold the demons off - and to say some final farewells. Mild language.
"Magic always comes down to blood, sooner or later." "Everything does, sooner or later." The ritual. Three deaths, and one who survives. Violence.

October 10: "I'm not going until I get some answers." In the aftermath of magic and storm, Constantine confronts Holmes. Language.

October 11: "I have lost before." Constantine gets a visitor in the night. Someone isn't taking any of this well.
"If things had been different... but they aren't." Neither is Constantine the only one visited.

October 12: "Look." The remnants of the League prepare to depart Bermuda. But Ilistair still has one last surprise for them.

But soon we shall die and all memory of those five will have left the earth, and we ourselves shall be loved for a while and forgotten. But the love will have been enough; all those impulses of love return to the love that made them. Even memory is not necessary for love. There is a land of the living and a land of the dead and the bridge is love, the only survival, the only meaning. (Thornton Wilder, The Bridge of San Luis Rey)

October 13: "This is your way of teaching me never to leave you alone for a week, isn't it." A long-anticipated homecoming - and something of startlement on Kitty's part, to find that there's actually a physical home to come to. Pete's been busy. Language.

October 14: "Don't mean to bother..." The long process of catching up with people starts: Kitty calls up Kess.
"Did you get to see Holmes in a speedo?" Kitty and Seishi catch up with Sera. Alarming the pregnant oneiromancer: always a bad idea. Mild language.
"... And his house lost?" (First part.) After visiting Sera, Kitty shows Seishi the new place; their discussion covers the usual range, gifts and poetry and men and ethics, before Kitty's cellphone rings. It's Constantine. His house had a minor encounter with a dragon...
"Death, I hear, is nothing like being a newt." (Second part.) Pete comes down, Constantine drops by, Seishi demonstrates mildly unnerving new abilities, and something explodes. Life's back to normal. Language.

October 16: "I've generally a way with animals. People are more difficult." Kitty obtains the rare privilege of being invited up to Liam's apartment. There's tea, and paintings, and a fire, and chat, and tea, and ... Very mild language.

October 17: "Are you still my husband?" Not everyone's homecoming was as pleasant as Kitty's. Kate and Jack have a few things to work out.

October 20: "What do you see, in your dreams?" Kitty stops by Jack and Kate's to give them the new address, but most of this log is between the couple themselves. Very mild language.

October 21: "It's like we can't imagine each other when we're not getting assaulted by unspeakable monsters." Whisper's turn to visit Kate and Jack. There's some trading of news and gossip, and talk of mundane matters ... and things are really almost normal for a little.

October 24: "This is your fault." Seishi has a date, which means that Seishi and Kitty are going shopping. Uh oh.

October 25: "My life is ridiculous." Kitty buys Lindsey coffee, and there's a good deal more catching-up - and some fairly alarming news on the lawyer front. Not to mention some blush factor. Lindsey still reminds Kitty of someone now and then...
"They will be stopped. Ended." Speaking of blush factor: Kitty stops by to catch up with Piotr. Remember those anti-metahuman terrorists? Turns out they're still around, and Piotr's decidedly not happy about it.

'The next time we want to have a revelation, can we please find a way that isn't so bloody uncomfortable?' - Seishi Tamashiino October 26: "And by accident I mean serious assault." Still with the catching up with old friends: Kitty stops by Caritas to look in on the Host. And there is not. One. Crisis. At all. Weird, but kinda nice.

October 28: "Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, towel?" Liam stops by to get out of the rain. Gossip ensues. Okay, so some of it's gossip about vampires and big purple demons, and a lot of the rest of it is gossip about one particular green karaoke demon, but it counts, right?
"It's coming, Pryde... will you be ready?" Kitty encounters Claire St. Thomas again. The trouble with an oracle is that they can't always control what they see.
Interlude. A shaken Kitty finally makes it home to find that, as usual, Pete is possessed of antidotes for strangeness.

October 30: "Knowing you guys, if I don't talk now, it'll be another few months before I find out why you all disappeared off the face of the planet." Kitty drops by to have a chat with Erik, and enforce his actually eating something. That boy needs to sleep more.
