Background: Born and raised in the Bronx, she lived with her two older brothers and her parents. She spent most of her time with her nose in the books, criminology texts and mystery novels. Through high school she was an honor student, on the track & field team, and student council treasurer two years running.

Her powers didn’t manifest themselves until she was almost fifteen when she started to hear sporadic voices in her mind. At first she thought she was going crazy and ignored them, until after a few months she found that if she concentrated on a person she could hear what they were thinking. After a few more weeks, she also discovered she could move things just by thinking it. She told her mother what was happening but her mother made her swear she would never tell another living soul, to keep her and her family from those who would want to take advantage of her abilities.

So keeping her powers to herself, testing their limits from time to time when she was alone or with her mother, she finished high school. Immediately after graduation, she joined the Police Academy despite her family’s wishes. She kept in contact with her family, her mother mostly, but otherwise they kept their distance.

She finished the Academy training in the top 10th percentile of her class, not one of her classmates knowing the abilities she had. She was hired on by NYC's 81st precinct (in Brooklyn). It was well known through the academy for its undercover operations and work with the FBI.

She was assigned to a regular patrol with an officer who had more than eight years in the precinct. They were partners for almost a year when they mistakenly walked into a convenience store as it was being robbed. The two thieves both carried guns, and for the span of a few heartbeats there was a very tense stand off. She knew she could stop the situation, but she hesitated, not wanting to expose her powers. That hesitation cost her partner his life when one of the thieves got jumpy and pulled the trigger. She fired back, both with her gun and with her mind. The bullet struck the one that had shot her partner, while the force of her mind sent the other flying across the store into a display. Her superiors declared it a good shooting, and seemed eager to accept that she was an Elite. Her partner was given the highest honors for losing his life in the line of duty. But she knew she had failed where she was needed most of all.

She was assigned to another partner, one with the Special Cases Unit. Many of them were Elites, like herself, but none with her telepathic abilities or youthful look. They had needed someone who could fit into a club without being noticed and who could see into the minds of the patrons. Someone was preying on customers of the club, both male and female, robbing them and beating them to the brink of death. So she went to the club, her mind subtly probing those within, trying to find the ones she sought. She never saw it coming, the mental attack that sent her reeling.

It was the last thing she remembered before waking in a cell.
