Background: Aaron has lived his entire life in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He has always lived in his "perfect" sister's shadow. Aaron was better at school and had amazing marks in every subject, he tried out for and was accepted onto numerous sports teams, he even had a major role in the school play. None of this mattered though if Daddy's little girl was around. 

  One afternoon in school just before second period, while Aaron and his best friend Terry Branch were on their way to class, Greg Naumenko the school bully who always enjoyed tormenting Aaron, grabbed him and locked him in a nearby locker. Terry ran for help as the buzzer rang but Aaron was trapped and feeling very scared. It didn't take too long before Aaron started to panic and all of a sudden the inside of the locker was well lit. Aaron had burst into flames!!! Panic set in and Aaron tried desperately to get out of the locker that was going to burn him alive. It was then that he realized that it didn't hurt. The flames weren't burning him even though the locker's contents were bursting into flame around him. The entire school burnt down that day and although no one got seriously hurt, Aaron felt terrible. What had happened? How did it happen? Would it happen again? Of all the people at school he thought were his friends, only Terry stood by him. Greg of course redoubled his efforts to humiliate him in public but was now scared of him a bit. That helped. But now everyone was calling him a freak and with the whole school having to be bused to another location they teachers and students alike were openly hostile towards him.

  It was about this time that Aaron's father stopped spending any time with Aaron at all. Suddenly, Aaron had gone from, "You can be the best son, just apply yourself!" to "What did you wreck today?" in his father's eyes. Not knowing what else to do, Aaron engrossed himself in his studies and tried to regain friends by catering to their interests. Schoolwork always came easily to Aaron so the studies were easy, unfortunately, his ability to win friends and influence people were less than extra-ordinary and he was more alone than ever.  Due to his outcast status amongst his peers, Aaron had little to do outside of school hours except practice with his new powers. Terry, of course, cheered him on and helped him with ideas of things to try. It was not long after this that he woke up in a cell one morning.
