The Meteor was no more, and with its disappearance came a wave of relief that spread across every city across the planet. The frightful image of Shinra was reduced to tatters, destroyed in its quest for world domination by the very weapons they had developed. AVALANCE had succeeded in its mission of saving the planet, but at a cost that for some was devastating, for others nothing short of death. However, life continued on for those people, and they turned instead from violence to helping rebuild the shattered remains of civilization. Years later, a reminder of morality came to those who averted the crisis of the planet. Tifa Lockheart, proud, strong, and outspoken, fell ill with a virus that the best of medical technology could only slow down, not defeat. The members of AVALANCHE poured money into research for a cure, yet none could be found, even after years of study. The only solution, a last measure, was a new method of cryogenic stasis developed to stop all metabolic processes while allowing the subject to stay alive in deep sleep. Lifestream, the souls of the planet, was the key to this technology. With saddened hearts but callous logic, the others and Tifa agreed to place her into stasis until a cure could be developed. Once within the chamber of death-like rest, they continued researching a means to cure her illness. The strong leadership AVALANCE provided was lost, and many cities were left without anyone to take their place. A vacuum of power came to exist, a tempting opportunity for those with the desire to fill it. One such person took up the challenge. The nation of Wutai, considered to be a neutral party to the world's politics, rose up with might unseen since before their war with the Shinra. Led by the fierce Warlord Delai Kisaragi, her armies poured across all continents and brought chaos and destruction that surpassed Shinra's legendary horrors. Three years later Wutai controlled most of the worlds economy and population, establishing a new chapter in Wutai's imperial history. The AVALANCHE once again took to the banner of rebellion and fought Wutai's control. With monumental odds and little support, the freedom fighters were whittled down until defeat and eventual death came to them each. And Tifa, who's stasis chamber was secreted into the ancient Shinra Tower for safe keeping, lay silent for half a millenia before she woke... >Return< |
