Nerima is the Confederation's oldest military district, and the units stationed in the Nerima District trace their histories back to their nation's beginning. Assignment to the Nerimian District is considered as a high honor for any officer because of the district's cultural and military importance. Because of this, the NCI must approve all soldiers' assignments to the Nerima Regulars. Conventional troops receive a cusory examination unless something in a solider's file warrants closer investigation. All Warship commanders and mecha pilots receive closer scrutiny, and all officers undergo thorough background checks. In keeping with current NCI doctrine, loyalty to the Commander-in-Chief is slightly less than loyalty to the Nerimian Confederation. This distinction may well cause trouble at some future point, and Nerima is the most likely area for such problems to occur.
Nerima Regular Forces have had little trouble filling their rosters with excetpionally well-qualified personnel, even in the wake of the concentration of military forces in the Cyngi District. Each year, Nerima's district forces receive the highest percentage of graduates from the elite Phoenix Citadel Academy Cadres. Troops from the Nerimian Military Academy also sends a vast majority of their graduates to the NRF units. Retired or on-leave officers from the NRF often serve as instructors at the GMA and the Phoenix Citadel, passing on the benefit of their expertise to each new class of cadets.
The Nerima Regulars have an excellent reputation in combat, secondly to the Cygni District Regulars, the reserve forces of choice. In general, the Nerima Regulars have excellent relations with the Bureaus of Subsitution and Administration and the Procurement Department, which means that these units have little trouble keeping themselves adequately supplied.
COMMAND STRUCTURE
The Warlord of Nerima is Admiral Takeshi Fugisawa, an able commander with strong political ties to Nerima. Devotion to his district has not blinded him to the threat of Chaos, however, and he staunchly supports Cameron Blackblade's Titan Progarms in spite of subtle pressure from politicians in his own district. His aide, Rear Admiral Dominic Paine, is currently watching over the district while the Admiral prepares the NDI Spacy's 2nd Fleet to conduct a counter-strike against the Chaos homeworlds.
AVAILABLE FORCES
The Nerima District Regulars consist of the NDI's 1st, 2nd, and 7th Fleets, comprising of a total of 1,216 warships and nearly 6 million personnel, second only to that of the Cygni District in sheer numbers. As the 2nd Fleet rotates into offensive war duty and the 1st Fleet returns to the district as a garrison force, the 1st Fleet will undergo a major refit, receiving six brand-new Memphis guided missile cruisers and several upgraded Tatsumaki frigates and Firesword heavy destroyers.
1st NDI Spacy Fleet: The Crimson Strikers
Justin Keele's mighty 1st Fleet is known throughout the Nerimian Confederation as the mighty 'Crimson Strikers', most of it attributed to its rapid response time to nearly anywhere the fleet is needed. Known simply as a quick-response force, the entire 1st Fleet is always on the move, ready to appear wherever the NDI needs them. Formed during the Protodevlin Wars, the original 1st Fleet consisted mainly of the Bastion Class battleship, Masenko, and a few of the older Firebird STL destroyers. In the aftermath of these wars, the 1st was the first fleet to receive Kyushu and Kirishima interstellar destroyers and cruisers, making it the first fully FTL fleet. Because of this, the 1st Fleet was sent on a floating patrol throughout all of Confederation space, in hopes that it would be the first military force to respond to enemy aggression in the event of an attack. As a result, the propulsion crews are experts at what they do, allowing the 1st Fleet to activate their fold drives at an exceptionally fast rate. In ship-to-ship combat, the fleet is on average the fastest NDI fleet in terms of maneuvering. Again, the expert crews are capable of getting the most out of the impulse drives of their warships.
The 1st favors a dark red color scheme trimmed with white. The unit's insignia is a red hawk layed on a white background.
OFFICERS
Justin Keele and his executive officer, Terry West, are very experienced commanders. Robert Harris, the main CAG officer for the entire fleet is a former ace variable fighter pilot, which means that the 1st has exceptional leadership in both anti-ship and fighter operations. All of these commanders are considered reliable.
TACTICS
The 1st Fleet specializes in rapid-response tactics, well honed over thirty years of constant patrols across the Confederation. Keele loves to use his destroyers to break into the flanks of enemy formations, while his cruisers take the enemy head on with direct fire tactics. Because of the experience of his CAG officer, Commander Robert Harris, Keele is willing to commit a large number of his fighters to denying his enemies space superiority and attacking important enemy vessels with heavy fighters and bombers.
ATTACHED UNITS -
23rd Carrier Air Group: Striker
Regiment/Elite/Fanatical
CO: Commander Robert HarrisThe 23rd Carrier Air Group, known as the elite pilots of Striker, the NDI Spacy's most elite fighter pilots are assigned to this elite CAG. Based on the Whirlwind Class carrier Constellation, the pilots of this elite unit are trained exceptionally in all methods of attacking with their powerful VF-28S Scorpion space superiority fighters. The pilots of this regiment have over 200 years of experience between them and have been credited with over 600 enemy kills during their relatively short history.
Ryuken-San Armored Marines: The Red Dragoons
Division/Veteran/Reliable
CO: Colonel David OwenThe Ryuken-San (3rd Dragon Sword) Armored Marine Division brings a complete array of armored units, from light Tiger assault vehicles to the mighty Shatterstar Omni-Mechs, to the 1st Fleet's ground attacking power. Known for their fast-striking capability, the Ryuken-San is a first-strike unit that can eliminate foes rather quickly, but will often require the assistance of heavy support units if the battle lasts too long.
71st Mechanized
Regiment/Elite/Fanatical
Troop Comdr: Colonel Sato ManokuThe 71st Mechanized infantry regiment contains one motorized-infantry battalion, one veteran battlesuit battalion, and one mixed elite battalion that includes an artillery unit and a NEST commando team.
2nd NDI Spacy Fleet: The Dragon's Flame
The 2nd Fleet is a mighty defensive unit that saw most of its action during the Nerima/Ayenee War of 2062 when two separate enemy fleets made an assault on Nerima Prime. Admiral Fugisawa's usage of Nerima Prime's defensive grid along with skillful usage of his ships allowed the NDI to carry the day and force the enemy away from Nerima Prime and out of Confederation space. Until this battle, the last time the 2nd Fleet had saw combat was during the battle against the Protodevlin nearly thirty years earlier. Admiral Takeshi Fugisawa has drilled his soliders in defense almost constantly despite the inherent lack of action they receive. Adept at recognizing weaknesses in enemy formations, the 2nd is more than capable of quickly going on the offensive once an enemy has overextended itself in battle.
OFFICERS
Commanding officer Takeshi Fugisawa has been awared the Phoenix' Talon on two seperate occassions for his valiant defense of Nerima Prime. He has an excellent relationship with the officers underneath him, having served with Admiral Keele and the other officers of the district in previous conflicts.
TACTICS
The 2nd Fleet favors defensive battles, especially those around the intergrated defensive networks surrounding Confederate planets. While enemy fleets try to engage the 2nd in battle, the defenses of the planet begin to whittle away at the foundation of the enemy fleet. Fugisawa loves to split his forces into two groups, using one to spearhead an assault against the enemy's strong point while the other collapses the enemy flank, leaving their center exposed to marauding VF attacks.
ATTACHED UNITS -
43rd Aerospace: Striking Serpents
Regiment/Elite/Fanatical
CO: Commander Hugo SamuelsThe Striking Serpents are among the most feared TAF pilots around, their sleek and stealthy VF-26 Starblades allowing them to respond to an attack on Nerima Prime with a speed and ferocity mostly unseen with the reserve units staioned on the Prime. The Regiment is also assigned two Redeye AWACS transatmospheric shuttles to act as a force-multiplier and further coordinate efforts.
22nd Nerima Regulars
Division/Regular/Reliable
CO: Colonel Caleb DavisThe 22nd Regulars are assigned to act as the first-response ground force in the event of a invasion of the Prime by an enemy force. Containing mixed batallions consisting of armor and mechanized infantry units, 22nd Regulars are counted on to provide the primary striking arm in the unlikely event Nerima Prime is invaded by ground forces.
7th NDI Spacy Fleet: The Shield of Nerima
After the invasions of Nerima Prime, the NDI Spacy assigned the relatively in-experienced 7th Fleet to the Nerima Military District in an effort to fashion a military force specifically to defend against excursions into the Nerima system. While the 7th Fleet is relatively full of green-level troops, constant training missions with the 2nd Fleet have created a military force that is competent enough to challenge any military force that comes screaming blood into the Nerimian star system. While many people consider the 7th Fleet an expendable force that serves as a buffer for the stronger 2nd Fleet, the members of the 7th are preparing themselves to take over the primary defensive duties of their homeworld in the near future.
OFFICERS
Admiral Hyogo Iwatabe is a young, ambitious officer who once served as a bridge officer with his mentor, Admiral Takeshi Fugisawa. Learning many tactical methods from his mentor, Iwatabe has drilled his troops extensively in the defensive methods of his commander as well as developing a few limited-strike strategies.
