PC Engine Review: Tenchi O Kurau
The reason the game reminds me of Dynasty Warriors 2 so much is that it has kind of the same feel, although it is a sprite based game. The availability of different characters and attacks, fighting multiple enemies with different skills in a mad 10-20 on one fight is very similar. Tenchi O Kurau sends wave after wave of enemies (up to 10 or so at once) at you as you are forced down burning boat ramps, wobbly bridges, and ice fields. Your character has a normal attack, a strong multislash, and a power-up shot. You cannot get off your horse however, and soldiers stab you at every turn.
The button configuration is simple. Button II turns you to the left and fires, Button I turns you to the right and fires. Hit either button multiple times in a row and you get a multi-attack, and hold them down to charge your attack meter for the power-up shot. Excellent control, simple and easy to use. The game also has good collision detection, and the skill level is set just about right.
All in all, if you like the Dynasty Warriors 2 style of beat-em-up games, or like platform games and Mongolian style art, this game is for you! It's fun, not TOO hard, and definitely worth playing. Go try it out!
