Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Hey everyone. This may look weird, a Buffy section on the Manchester Prep site. Well, I felt that I should do something about Buffy's finale. This section will be up and running by the time Buffy's new episode "Dirty Girls" airs on UPN NETWORK(April 15,2003). Look for reviews for the final five episodes written by Terry, David, and I. Also, there will be a special tribute to Buffy along with a review from all three of us when the finale airs May 20,2003. Watch Buffy on UPN, Tuesdays at 8:00 pm.

Buffy, the Vampire Slayer. Episode 7.18. "Dirty Girls"

-Jeepers Creepers, where'd you get those peepers? Jeepers Creepers, where'd you get those eyes? Oh yeah, from the fat guy in the corner.

Hello everyone, well this is my first review of Buffy...the beginning of end, kind of ironic don't you think? Only four more to go...onto the episode.

The episode starts out with yet another SIT running through the woods. The Bringers are chasing her, yet again, but this time, someone is there to save her. A pair of headlights pulls up and she jumps in the car. He is a southern preacher and asks her what is the matter? She tells him they need to get to Sunnydale and he says he's going as well. Man, his country accent is very good. Sadly, I speak like that as well ::ashamed::. The man's name is Caleb and the girls name is Shannon. I forgot to mention that. Caleb then tells Shannon that shes dirty and a whore. She protests of course, as all hookes...er, I mean SIT'S do, and he pulls out a hot ciggerette lighter and heats up a ring on his finger, he then jabs it into her neck, "branding her", she screams of course. He casually holds her in the seat and tells her he has a message to tell the "one and original" Slayer. She says he will, he thanks her and stabs her in the stomach. There's that famous southern hosiptality shining through. He whispers something inaudible in her ear and kicks her out of the car. Willow is behind them and comes to a screeching hault. Hey Willow, just a few words ANTI-LOCK BREAKS. Jesus, you skidded for like a mile before you eventually stopped. Almost ran poor Shannon over. Faith then steps out of the shadows "Yup, I'm back in Sunnydale." Uh...not for too long sweetheart, there are only 4 more episodes left.

Anywho, credits roll, Anya is in the credits, yet for the SECOND time this season(Conversations with Dead People), she's not in the episode anywhere! Argh, I was having major Anya-relapse, but it's a minor quibble in this FANTASTIC episode. After the credits, Xander is in his apartment room with another SIT. She tells him she is scared and has never been with a man. Then, Colleen pops up and says she's never been with man, and has never been with the other SIT in front of a man either. They agree to have sex with Xander. Then out of nowhere, Xander's door opens and he finds a room full of half-naked girls in a pillow fight. Hahaha, this cracked me up. The very sexy dream comes to an end when we hear Rona, or as I like to call her Afro-Kennedy, yelling at Xander telling him to wake up because someone clogged up the toilet. Xander tells them he'll be right out, he has a leg cramp. Heh. More funniness. Oh Marshmallow Man, I love your wit.

Back to Willow and Faith. Thankfully, Willow isn't that prominent in this episode. I think this furthered my enjoyment. Faith tells Willow she's going to find Buffy and Willow says she'll do it for her. Faith protests and heads off to the graveyard, telling Willow to stay with the unconcious SIT.

A young blonde chick is running through the graveyard. Spike is chasing her and knocks her to the ground. Then he gets thrown around by none other than Faith. They exchange witty banters about who was reformed first and the argument is quickly brought to a close when Buffy knocks Faith to the ground. Faith asks Buffy why she's protecting vampires: "Are you the bad slayer now?...Am I the good slayer now?" Haha, oh Faith, you're back! Buffy fills Faith in and says for the millionth time how Spike has a soul. Then Spike and Faith argues over how similar he is to Angel. I LOVE CONTINUITY! Faith is then attacked by the blonde chick Spike was chasing, she's a vamp. Faith ends up staking her and they head back to Buffy's house.

They walk in and Faith talks about how the house is the same. Buffy mentions something about all of the furniture being replaced a lot. Yes...and your mom was kinda dead on the couch. Last time Faith saw her, she was tied to the bed post, but that's besides the point...Dawn, wearing Christina Aguilera's "Dirrty" wardrobe walks into the living room and is cold to Faith. So is Giles, but Spike clues her in to Giles and Principal Wood trying to kill him.

Caleb then pours himself a wine. There are many barrells of wine around him. He's talking about the Last Supper and then he mentions the First. Yes, it's back in the picture!! In the voice of Buffy, it asks "Do you think I'm God?" Caleb responds "No, I'm beyond concepts like that." "You still wear the outfit." "Man can't turn his back on where he came from. Besides black is slimmin', everyone knows that..." hahaha. Caleb, besides the murdering, I'm lovin' your character! The First steps out of the shadows and begins talking to Caleb about what he sees about her. He then realizes that he's looking the "THE Slayer". He's excited and The First tells him that he's earned seeing her as a reward for "blowing up the Council, organizing the Ray Charles Birgade, and sticking all them splits." Heh, so funny Caleb. The First asks Caleb how he knows Buffy will fight him. He tells her that its woman's curiousity. Her first sin, he gives her an apple and she bites. Creepy dude, but he does bear an uncanny resemblance to President Bush. Even more creepy.

The next scene is great. Andrew is describing Faith to the Potentials, which I'll call the Supremes to Buffy's Diana. He tells the Supremes that Faith was a rogue slayer and eventually ended up killing one of the most passive species ever: Vulcans. This leads to a fantasy segment of Faith and someone resembling Spock in a fistfight. HIGH-LARIOUS. You have to see it to understand it. HAHAHA! Amanda(damn, every episode she looks more and more like Jack the Skeleton King from "A Nightmare Before Christmas".) informs Andrew the it was a volcanist, a professor who studies Volcanoes. Heh, more continuity and Season 3 flashbacks! WHO-HOO! Andrew is embarassed obviously and then tells the Supremes not to take Faith lightly and to always be on their toes around her. Chao-Ahn then says in Catonese(sp?) "There is a girl in the backyard doing gymnastics." Oh Chao-Ahn, I always love a good Asian joke...right Terry? TERRY?!

At Sunnydale High, Buffy comes to Principal Wood's office and tells him she wants to be on good terms again. He agrees and then fires her. He tells her there are more pressing matters and half the kids and residents of Sunnydale aren't even around anymore. What's going on here? Sunnydale residents growing a brain? Was the big dragon in Season 5's "The Gift" not a big enough inticement to leave town? He then tells her she needs to start testing the Potential Slayers in battle. Geez, anyways, Buffy leaves school, understanding what Principal Wood was saying.

At Casa Summers, Faith comes downstairs to smoke to find Spike in bed. At first, I thought he was nude, ::shudders:: but he had on pants. They smoke together and catch up on each other's former "Big-Badness". It's a very sexy scene and well-played by both James and Eliza. Buffy then comes down, already jealous and begins trying to break up the conversation before Frosty the Snow Bitch (a.k.a. Dawn) informs Buffy that Shannon has woken up @ the hospital. Buffy, in a new coat and new hair arrive at the hospital. Shannon tells Buffy that Caleb's message was "He has something of yours." She shows Buffy her brand-new branding from Caleb and Willow goes CSI:Sunnydale and snaps pictures of Shannon's body. Buffy thanks Shannon and heads back to the house. She informs the gang, minus Anya(!!!) about Caleb. Also, I've noticed that the Supremes are getting uglier and uglier as the Season progresses. Buffy then says if Caleb has something of hers, which she presumes is another Supreme, then she is going to get it.

Back at Caleb's Vineyard, a young girl approaches Caleb and comments on his preaching. He gives a long speech about being drawn to the darkness and power and then leads her into the shadows. She falls flat on the ground with a large stab wound on her stomach. It morphs back into Buffy and tells him that most people don't like re-enacting their murders. Caleb loves it. The First asks Caleb if he wants to re-enact a Supreme murder. He says no, he wants to do one with a choir girl he knew in KNOXVILLE( MY HOMETOWN WHO HOO!) he used to give music lessons to. The First comments how he tricked all the girls and he comments that he told the truth and they all willingly followed. "Thats how woman is." or something like that.

Back at Buffy's house, she tells the core-Scoobies, MINUS KENNEDY YAY!!!, that she's going after Caleb with the more expierenced Supremes. Everyone protests, saying it feels like a trap. Buffy says Caleb may have another girl, Giles says it could be a stapler. Haha! Giles even gets a funny line. Buffy tells him they are going anyways, but she and Faith will go on re-con first, to check things out. She then tells Giles that he and Willow will stay behind with the Supremes who don't go on the field trip to the vineyard. He needs to stay for the girls "who still need a teacher." OOh, I can feel the tension.

Faith and Buffy discuss their views on how the Bringers move with no eyes and then discuss Angel and Faith being in his mind. They find the vineyard and head back home to get some backup. Xander is describing to the Potentials on what to go for when they try to kill whatever Caleb is(which is a human, but they didn't know that). He makes the comment "...heart, neck, eyes. Everything has eyes." "Except for the Bringers" Dawn comments. Ha, I laughed there too. Then Molly asks what if Caleb isn't human, what if he's something more? Xander tells her to skip the tentacles and go straight for the heart. She tells him she doesn't like tentacles or squishy things. Kennedy says she doesn't care if it's Godzilla, she's going after it. Jack the Skeleton King says that if Matthew Broderick can kill Godzilla, so can they, so Caleb shouldn't be that hard. Andew whines for Xander and Xander corrects Amanda in that it wasn't the real Godzilla. Rona then yells at them and says Buffy is crazy and doesn't even care about any of the Supremes. Xander then makes a brilliant speech saying: "Let me tell you something about Buffy. In fact you all should listen to this. I've been through more battles with Buffy than you all can ever imagine. She's stopped everything that has ever come up against her. She's layed down her life litterally to protect the people around her. This girl has died two times and she's still standing. you're scared, that's smart. You got questions, you should. But you doubt her motives, you think Buffy's all about the kill, you take the little bus to battle. I've seen her heart, and this time not litterally, and I'm telling you right now she cares more about your lives than you will ever know. You've gotta trust her. She's earned it." Buffy walked in and heard it, and was visibly touched. Faith comments she never knew Buffy was that cool and Buffy retors "You always were kind of slow." Heh.

Xander, Spike, Jack the Skeleton King, Rona, Chao-Ahn, Kennedy, Molly, unnamed Supreme, Faith and Buffy all head to the Vineyard. Buffy informs them that her team will go in first, if things get hairy, Faiths team will come in on the signal, which is lots and lots of yelling. Buffy, Chao-Ahn, Molly, Kennedy, Spike, Rona, and unnamed Supreme walk in. Molly asks if its an evil Vineyard. The Bringers then jump out at them and the Supremes hold their own, kickin some ass! Each saving one anothers life at some point. Then, after the dispatch of the Bringers, Caleb steps into view and tells them they think "they are blazing like the sun, but are really only matches in the face of the darkness." Buffy tells him to cut the sermon and give her what he has of hers. He says that what he has are his fresh victims that she brought right to him. He then comments on how powerful the Slayer must be and backhands her across the room, knocking her out. Spike vamps out and attacks Caleb. He beats the crap out of Spike and knocks into some wine barrells, creating a cool effect when all the wine pours out, drenching the vampire. Then, the Bringers all come after the Supremes and the Supremes go after Caleb. Kennedy is then thrown into some boxes and knocked unconcious. Rona attacks Caleb and he breaks her arm in half. He gives the knife to a Bringer who raises it and Rona is about to get killed (YES! YES! YES!) but Robin Hood (aka Xander) shoots an arrow into the Bringers arm, making him drop the knife. Caleb comments that there are more and Faith attacks him, he easily dispatches of her and throws her into the wine barrells and the same cool effect is made. The unnamed Supreme attacks Caleb but he catches her sword, and very calmly snaps her neck in half. Many people thought this was Chao-Ahn. But it is not. When you see Xander's speech in the living room, you'll see the unnamed SIT standing with a sword. Now, when Xander is talking, Chao-Ahn is standing behind him, with totally different clothing than the unnamed SIT with a different weapon. So this was NOT Chao-Ahn that died, Chao-Ahn lives!!! SHE LIVES!!!Molly screams "NOOO!" Caleb says "Oh...yes." He grabs Molly by the throat and lifts her in the air.

By this time, Xander has made his way to Buffy and woke her up. She tells him that they have to retreat and Xanders starts rounding up living Supremes. Buffy goes to save Molly, but Caleb shoves Mollys knife through her stomach and throws her on the ground dead. Oh, Molly, you were my favorite Potential slayer. I was actually very sad you died! ::cries:: Buffy, is pissed and punches Caleb, dodges his punches, and kicks him into the wall. She about to do more, but Spike tells her that they are leaving. They turn to leave, Xander goes back to get Kennedy, and is about to leave but Caleb grabs him by the neck.

Xander is shaking in fear now(which I would be too). He tells Xander that he must be the seeer. This is a reference to the Episode "Potential". Xander told Dawn that since they were humans, their power was seeing, because they see something that nobody else does because they are "normal" and that's what makes them special. Back to the current episode. Caleb tells Xander that he'll see what he can do about that and literally shoves his finger into Xanders eye socket. Now, we have a full-on face shot and Xander's eye looks like it is really taken out, its pretty gruesome. He screams in pain, Spike saves the day and kncoks Caleb into a wall. Spike and Buffy rush to Xanders aid. Okay, Xander must be getting REALLY heavy. When Buffy picked him up, she grunted so much, she sounding like a retarted Master P. They run out of the Vineyard leaving Caleb there, smiling.

Back at the Hospital, Buffy finds Rona in a cast and Xander asleep, with Willow holding his hand. During these scenes Caleb is describing his own twist via voiceover on the Adam and Eve Story. Buffy leaves the hospital and goes home, to find all the Supremes majorly pissed at her. She goes back on the streets, alone, walking and thinking. She is blaiming herself for everything that happened because she went against good judgement. BUFFY YOU ARE NOT ALONE! YOU HAVE FRIENDS! But she doesn't realize this and continues to walk the streets of Sunnydale. Cut to Caleb who is telling the First that the story will have a happy ending, at least for them anyways.

Okay, my take on this episode. It was tremendous! It was chock-full of great continuity, sadness (Xander and Molly), humor (Vulcan/Faith fight, and Xanders wet dream, and horror (Shannon at the beginning). In another words: the perfect Buffy episode. All in all, I give the episode an A. Not an A +, mostly because there was NO Anya at all and no mention of her absence. Hopefully this will be explained. I'm really anxious to see what happens with Xander next. I hope that everyone forgives Buffy and she and Giles become friends again. Well, only four more episodes left!! The next review will be "Empty Places" by Lestat51685. Hope you enjoyed!!
