Ah! My Goddess' roots are pretty significant. It all began with a Manga (Aa! Megami-sama) within Japan, created by Artist Fujishima Kosuke (Who is also known for "You're Under Arrest!"). Derived from the idea of characters praying to a 'Goddess' for aid in "You're Under Arrest", "Ah! My Goddess" was created.
The manga series was first seen in Kodansha Magazine, "AfterNoon" 11-1988 (November). It was an instant hit with the range of around 22 to 23 total volumes.
From the lifeseed that the manga delivered, it was decided to create an animated series based solely on "Ah! My Goddess". An OAV (Original Animation Video) was created first (the one most people are familiar with); a short series consisting of no more than a total of 5 episodes which didn't quite tie in to the manga at their fullest. Next, was the Television series; a series of 48 episodes.
In the year 2000, fans of "Ah! My Goddess" received an outstanding gift; the official "Ah! My Goddess" Movie.
But the craze would not end there. The world would see more "Ah! My Goddess" merchandise, ranging from soundtracks to games.
Ah! My Goddess revolves around a college student by the name of Morisato Keiichi (Known mostly as just Keiichi). One day, while in his dorm room, he gets a phone call. The call is for an upperclassmen by the name of Tamiya, who is currently unavailable.
After the short conversation, he hangs up the phone to discover that he's extremely hungry. So, he decides to get something to eat.
He figures that since nobody's around and the phone is right in front of him, he might as well order some food to be delivered. The first resturaunt he calls is not available tofr delivery until 5:00pm. The next two resturaunts he calls, too, will not deliver. As a last resort, he dials the number for the last resturaunt.
This time, a woman answers the phone, stating that he has reached the Goddess Relief Office. Before he can manage to say that he dialed the wrong number, the woman on the line hangs up.
