Fruits Basket
Story: Tohru is an orphan after her mom died a year before. Her grand-pa's house is renovating to allow his own children to live, thus Tohru doesn't have a place to belong to yet. Doesn't want to cause trouble for her friends, she went and camp in the mini-forest. In fact, that whole piece of area is Sohma's property. Eventually, Tohru winds up living with Shigure Sohma and Yuki Sohma. Later, Kyo Sohma joins into the house. The Sohma clan has a selected few who can change to the 12 Chinese Zodiac animals (Juunishi) if they hug an opposite gender. (Something like Ranma, but replace the hot and cold water with Hugging.) Thus begins Tohru's life with the interesting people of the Sohma clan.

Akito is the head of the Sohma clan. He appears to be ill, thus he required to stay at home at all times and Hatori need to attend to him (since Hatori is his private doctor.) He always carry a evil grin and has emotional outbursts. The other Sohma members are scarred emotionally and physically by him. | Ya know, I feel that nobody is born to be bad. I'm sure he had his reasons. But then is he really physically ill? This remains to be one of the deepest mysteries in Fruits Basket. |

Tohru is a orphaned high school student and the Main Character of the story. She always has a positive attitude, very well-mannered, innocent and naive, the really extreme goody-goody type. Doesn't want to be a burden to her friends or her family, she decided to camp outside. Eventually, she winds up living in Shigure's house, helping out with house chores. | If she's my friend, I probably would shout at her. I have no patience with naive people, but then..somehow, I really like her. ^_^ Even though she has helped the Sohma members by encouraging them and changing them, she seems to be a happy child but only because she's hiding something. Obviously something has happen in her past, and she doesn't want to think about it. |

He's the cat in the Chinese Zodiac story. Even though that the cat isn't one of the Chinese Zodiac animals, he still can change (into a cat) when a opposite gender hugs him. Maybe because the cat was tricked by the rat in the chinese Zodiac story, he seems to be always arguing and fighting with Yuki, and very determined to defeat him. (with some other reasons related to Akito) He has a wild temper and doesn't seems friendly, but he has a softer, kinder side of him. He is also a martial artist and his hobby is sleeping and fighting with Yuki. Has a weakness with rainy days. Likes Tohru. | I feel that he has the worst past compared to the other Chinese Zodiac. He has no where to turn to. His Sohma clan (excluding the Juunishi) despise him, his mom dead, and his dad hates him. Only Tohru and Kazuma (his guardian) can help him. |

Feminine (he hate people calling him that), quiet and usually well-mannered, he has loads of fans in school and even has his own fanclub. Otherwise, he's calm and very quick-witted with Kyo's attacks and arguments. Yuki is also a martial artist and loves gardening. However, he can't really socialize with people and always keeps a distance with people (because of an incident) Likes Tohru. | There's nothing much to talk about him, I guess, especially there's like.. no more mysteries with him. His mom regards him as a tool and Akito seems to 'like' him very much. His Akito-phobia seems to be stronger than any other Juunishi. |

Has a split personality, he can be calm and lazy, while the other (called Black-Haru) is rude, arrogrant and violent. He has a past relationship with Rin but still likes her. He has an awfully bad sense of direction and likes to wear cowboyish, j-rockish sort of clothes. He has erm...a "crush" for Yuki. And because of that, he understands Yuki's problems and ready to lend his ear to Yuki. | He appears pretty often in the story. The relationship of Rin and Haru is full of mystery, and we can only guess that the reason why they broke off is because of Akito (again) |

Shy and demure, because of her hair colour, she was bullied by her classmates, resulting her lost of voice. However, Tohru comforted her and when she finally see it through and able to stand up against strongly, she regain her voice again. Because of that, Kisa likes Tohru alot and always follow her around. Another good friend of hers is Hiro. Haru seems to protect her as if she is his sister. | Both Yuki and Kisa's situation is about the same, so probably is the reason why Haru seems to protect and care for her like his own sister. Kisa was once injured by Akito (because Hiro told Akito he likes her?) and Hiro fearing that Akito will do that again, decides to keep a distance from her. But recently, they seems to be together a lot. |

The bunny of the Juunishi, Momiji is cheerful, positive person and likes to hang around with Tohru. Even though he seems to acts and looks like someone younger his age, he's rather intelligent and able to sacrifice for other people's happiness. He's also a half-german, half-japanese. | Urmm, I like him alot at first, but his childish acts seems to be getting on my nerves. In bk 11 however, he attempted to stop Akito from seeing Tohru fearing that Akito will do something to her. I feel his action is rather admirable (since the Juunishi never dare to stand against Akito) and his genki spirit is always there to ignite the spirit of others. |

Hatori is serious, rigid and very very cool. Because he's quiet and doesn't speak 'un-necessary', he give people the impression that he's unfriendly and cold. That's exactly opposite of him. He's very concerned with other Juunishi's affairs, and always ready to help them. His left eye is blinded (for some reason) and has the ability to erase people's memories. His transformation is very interesting. ^_^ A 8cm seahorse instead of a real dragon. | He seems to know everything, Akito always tell him his opinions and he also know Shigure's plan. He probably won't fall in love again unless the Juunishi curse is released. |

Name: Sohma Ayame

Ayame is the extreme funny guy in the whole series. He is also Yuki's brother. Always ready to flirt around with Shigure, and annoy Yuki, he's the Snake of the Chinese Zodiac. During winter, he loves to crawl into people's (Tohru's in particular) clothes and take a warm nap. ^_^ Always make decisions regardless of what other people might think, he wants to establish a better brother-bond with Yuki. He respects Hatori alot and only listen to him. | Aya-chan! ^_^ Even though he's always fooling around, he has a more intelligent side of him. His argument about sex and virginity is valid and something to think about, but then his old funny side comes in again and ask all the students to direct their sexual desires to him. XD |

Rebellious and seems to have a wild temper, she's rather a mystery since she only appeared recently. She has a scar on her back (probably one of Akito's handiwork) and once has a relationship with Hatsuharu. She seems to dislike Tohru in particular and we only know that she was beaten by Akito once he knows about Haru-Rin relationship. | She appears here and there in the manga, but it seems that she is going to appear more often after Book 11. |

Hiro is a precocious, obnoxious 'kid' in Fruits Basket. He sees Tohru as his rival for Kisa (Tiger) and likes to watch a weird anime. He's always there to irritate others with his "mightier-than-you" attitude and only nice to Kisa. Because of some incident with Akito (again), he has to keep a distance with Kisa because he was afraid that Kisa is being injured again. Un-secured that he's younger than Kisa, he always want to behave like an adult. | The 'brat' in the story. I don't have a deep impression of him other than he likes to pick on Tohru and likes Kisa. |

Always scared of being a burden to others, Ritsu is another comic-relief in the story. He always apologize (in a rather scary manner) to everything every time (even apologize to the wall) and wants to be confident and manly like Ayame. Even though he's a guy, he dresses as a girl. It seems that his favourite style is the kimono. | Let me think...He only appear in Bk 8 and then he disappeared into thin air. Hope to see him more often in the later chapters. |

Kureno, being one of the last Juunishi to appear in the manga, is full of mystery. He's always on Akito's side and Akito likes him so much that he doesn't allow Kureno to be seen by the other Sohma members, probably the new year as the only day exceptional. He seems to have the least freedom among the Sohma members but he's content with it. | He only appeared recently starting from Book 9, and so I almost know nothing about him. What will happen between him and Uo? ^_^ I can't wait. |

Loves to flirt around, loves schoolgirls and loves to irritate people (especially his publisher), Shigure is the Dog of the Chinese Zodiac. He appears to have a plan on his mind and remains rather mysterious. Only Hatori knows about what he's trying to achieve. | Ah... Shigure... One of the comic-relief characters. ^_^ I like how he bully his publisher by disappearing to a chalet or something and left a pity note to the publisher that he left WITHOUT finishing his work. |

Has a double personality, Kagura can be sweet and nice, and violent and aggressive at the other end. She is EXTREMELY obsessed with Kyo and dreams to be his bride one day. Due to her love to Kyo (that's what she explained), she's very excited and will end up beating him and swinging him in mid air. Not to mention that dozens of furniture, walls,doors, got damaged by her, she knows that it's unrequited love. | She don't appear often in the manga, but I really respect her. Even though Kyo doesn't like her, Kagura still managed to smile and treat Tohru as her friend, even though Tohru is her in-direct rival. |
