Anime/Games
the X movie - anime movie based on a manga called X; very depressing
Touga in the Utena movie - Utena is a manga, anime TV series, and anime movie; no specific spoilers, but in the movie the character Touga has a sad past and an even sadder - um - rest of the movie.
Arashi/Sora/Yuzuriha/Subaru/Kamui - characters in the X movie
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 - a video fighting game, hereinafter referred to as MvC2. Hooray for mindless destruction! (Wait - I’ve seen people play this game - it’s not all that mindless. How do you keep all those buttons straight? @.@)
Shinku-Hado-Ken - a killer move in MvC2.
Ryu/Akuma - characters from MvC2.
Street Fighter - er - another fighting video game. There’s an anime too, I believe.
Kitty in the House - the name of the flower shop from the anime Weiss Kreuz; in another incarnation, it was a waffle place. Chiiru-chan really likes this name; I’m just waiting for it to show up in Genki Goth.
“...parents like Touga’s and they sell him to a brothel?!” - warning - HUGE Utena movie spoilers...

In the Utena movie, Touga’s dad sold him to some sick pedophiliac bastard. Of all the bad things that happened in that f*cked-up movie, that was one of the worst. I don’t know if it happened in the TV series or not, but I’d guess not because I doubt pedophiles let their little sex toys bike around the countryside with friends. Uh - I need to shut up now.

“*trying to hide her face with a hat that looks a lot like Utena’s from the movie*” - in the Utena movie, there was a time when Utena wore a hat. Should I have to explain that? I mean, really. I’m just being ridiculously thorough here.
chibi - small superdeformed version of a character. Here’s an example: https://www.angelfire.com/games3/fancomic/chibischucolor.jpg
hammerspace - mysterious invisible other dimension from which objects can be pulled - most frequent object is a hammer, hence the name.
“No... I don’t think I’ll ever be daijoubu again...” - reference to a roleplay Chiiru-chan and I did using the characters from an anime called Weiss Kreuz; we scarred the cute innocent chara Omi for life. (Okay, *I* scarred Omi for life. Lemme ’lone.) You can read it at https://www.angelfire.com/anime3/opencircle/wkrp.txt
Asuka - female character from the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion, who is half-German, has red hair and blue eyes, and can bitch with the best of them. We love her anyway.
nosebleed - traditionally in anime, a nosebleed is a sign that the male in question is having perverted thoughts. ^.^ Chiiru-chan and I’s female equivalent is a coughing fit.
Blood Dove - reference to evil, terrible, scarring-for-life Weiss Kreuz fanfic entitled “Blood Pretty Dove” which I’ve never read and never want to. For the sake of your pretty minds, I’d advise avoiding it, as well.
Carrot/Chocolate - reference to the anime Bakuretsu Hunters/Sorcerer Hunters. Carrot is one of the main male charas; he’s a total perv and he’s ALWAYS going after girls. ALWAYS. Chocolate and her sister Tira are the only girls he ignores - and of course, they’re the only ones who want him. n_n;;; Chocolate spends the bulk of her time trying to tempt Carrot, with no success.
Captain Commando/Sakura/Cable/Iron Man - er - charas from MvC2.
Shoryu-reppa - um - one of Ken’s moves in MvC2. Can you tell that I really know nothing about all these video games?
Sakura-->Dark Sakura - something you can do with the character Sakura that makes her evil and more powerful... I guess... @.@
Death - one of Dark Sakura’s moves.
Solar Cannon - one of Iron Man’s moves.
Super Combo/Smart Bomb - yet more MvC2 moves, yo.
Hyper Cannon - another Iron Man move.
Air Combo - last video game move for a while, promise.
Wolfwood - not only the name of Daisuke’s dog, but a character from a manga/anime called Trigun. Everyone should watch Trigun, because it is dang cool, and Wolfwood in particular earns major coolness points for having one of the most awesome guns ever.
Seishirou-ish - Seishirou is a manga character, and one of the sexiest men EVER, though in a rather evil, predatory way. To see what I’m talking about, go to the Anipike (http://www.anipike.com/), check out the X and Tokyo Babylon links, visit one of the picture pages, and you’ll see what I mean.
Koyasu-voice - Koyasu Takehito is a seiyuu (voice actor) with a lovely deep voice, who’s played Aya-kun in Weiss Kreuz, Hotohori in Fushigi Yuugi, Touga in Utena, and - well - Seishirou in the Tokyo Babylon OAVs. Heh heh heh.
“*pokes him* Hey. Hey.” - this is a bit of a tribute to the Slayers dub. You see, there’s this part in Slayers when Amelia shows up, and she somersaults around and keeps landing on her face, so Gourry pokes her with a stick and says “Hey. Hey. Hey.” ... It’s funnier when you watch it.
Seishirou-smirk - a special type of smirk, often found on the aforementioned Sakurazuka Seishirou; the kind of smile that makes you faint with desire even as you try to smack it off his face.
“*is basically a clone of Kojiro/James from Pokemon*” - okay, I’m going to tell you, right up front, that I have never watched Pokemon and never, ever will. So I don’t know exactly what Chiiru’s talking about, and if you’re lucky, you don’t, either.
“The new Miyazaki” - Hayao Miyazaki is a famous animation director; he’s responsible for such classics as Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, and Kiki’s Delivery Service. He has a very distinctive art style.
“*... silver angel wings and sword pendant...*” - based on an Angel Sanctuary keychain I bought at Animazement (a big anime convention). The sword is seven-bladed, and all in all, it rules.
“*goes chibi with Hikaru cat-ears and tail, ...*” - Hikaru is a character from a manga/anime/videogame called Magic Knight Rayearth, by CLAMP, and when she goes chibi she has these ADORABLE cat-ears and a little tail. She’s so cuuuuuuute!
Sei-chan - a rather friendly, informal way to refer to the aforementioned Sakurazuka Seishirou. I used to call him “that stupid, stupid, heartless, evil bastard,” but one day by accident I said Sei-chan instead, and that was so much shorter to say than “that stupid, stupid, heartless, evil bastard” that I got into the habit of saying Sei-chan. And so did Daisuke.
“midriff shirt and a trenchcoat over a pair of jeans, a la Youji” - Youji is a character from the anime Weiss Kreuz, who has apparently sworn a solemn oath never to conceal his bellybutton. Heh heh - we love our Yo-tan.
cosplay - dressing up as a character from an anime, or as a J-Rocker if you so prefer. It can be insane amounts of fun, as well as leading to lots of random glomps from strangers if you pick the right chara. ^.^
“D and the blonde girl from the new Vampire Hunter D movie” - D is a vampire hunter (actually, he’s half vampire, too), and he now has two movies - an old one with terrible art but spiffy stuff going on, and a new one that’s also spiffy and has GORGEOUS art. The blonde girl is also a vampire hunter, and she’s kind of a romantic interest.
“Hiroshi and his girlfriend from Gravitation” - Gravitation is a highly adorable shounen-ai series (shounen-ai=literally “boy-love,” so romantic homosexual themes), and Hiroshi is about the only straight guy in there. You should totallly watch Gravitation, but no further than about three-quarters of the way through episode six.
“Tamahome and Miaka from FY, etc.” - FY is Fushigi Yuugi, a major shoujo anime, and Tamahome and Miaka are the main couple, except - Miaka sucks like a toothless whore. Chiiru and I both despise her guts. That tends to carry over into the characters we play.
“Yuki and Shuichi from Gravi” - Gravi=Gravitation, and Yuki and Shuichi are the main (pretty much the only established) shounen-ai couple. *sniffle* They’re so - so - so meant to be together! They’re such a cute couple that instead of picking a bishie, I adopted them as a couple! Go watch Gravitation now and you’ll see what I mean (though the TV series moves kinda fast - try the manga, too, it might go a bit slower).
“Koji and Izumi from Zetsuai” - another shounen-ai series, though much older than Gravitation; particularly appropriate in Yoshi and Kazu’s case, since Koji was a rock star and Izumi was a really good soccer player.
“Touga and Utena” - from Revolutionary Girl Utena, a great but extremely confusing series/movie. If I had to pick a straight couple for Utena, it’d be Touga and Utena (especially if we were thinking about the movie, because oh my GOD that was so SWEET! *weeps*), but I’m really an Utena and Anthy fan. (Anthy being a girl - the Rose Bride.)
“Larva and Miyu” - from an anime/manga called Vampire Princess Miyu, where Miyu hunts down stray demons and is immune to most common vampiric weaknesses; Larva is a Western demon who’s bound to her and helps her out a lot.
“Gourry and Lina” - from the anime Slayers/Slayers Next/Slayers Try/more movies and OAVs than I could hope to name. They’ll be a really sweet couple if they ever figure out they like each other... 9.9
The whole play-acting as Yuki and Shuichi bit - okay, Shuichi is in a band and he writes lyrics, and while he’s writing one night they blow away and Yuki catches them. Yuki reads them and says they suck, then disappears. Shuichi hunts him down to try and make him apologize, and - well - one thing leads to another. ^.^ Last plug for a while, I promise, but - WATCH GRAVITATION!
“*still chibi, like Gravi-Shuichi*” - did I forget to tell you that Gravi-Shuichi is cute and happy and bouncy and sparkly and oftentimes chibi? Silly me.
Haruto impression - reference to a short but extremely cool anime called Haunted Junction, where one of the main characters - Haruto - has a tendency to yell “OH MY GOD!” in Engrish, in the midst of Japanese. ^.^ It was pretty funny, especially since I had a teacher at Japanese camp who would yell “OH MY GOD!” in almost exactly the same way, and - you should’ve been there.
“NG Records” - a little teeny reference to Gravitation. See, there’s this band called Nittle Grasper, and after it breaks up one member (Tohma, who alternates between kicking butt and being a jealous little bitch) starts a record company - NG Records.
“a la Aya from that one pic” - okay, Aya is another character from Weiss Kreuz, and there’s a pic where he’s wearing a shirt that’s basically the same one that Richi is wearing then. If you guys are lucky, I’ll scan in a copy of the pic, or better yet, draw Richi in that shirt. ^.^
“Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!/it’s this or it’s truck” - okay, this makes perfect sense if you watch a) romantic anime with your friends and b) Anime Hell at conventions with about a hundred other people. When watching anime communally, communication with the characters is considered acceptable (not necessarily appropriate, but acceptable), and as for the truck - well - there’s this anime called Minky Momo, and Momo is a little girl, and she - uh - doesn’t look both ways...
...
It’s an Anime Hell thing.
“bad anime habits” - Daisuke is firmly repressing his urge to chant “Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!” We’re very proud of him.
Hellsing - an anime which I haven’t watched, but which apparently has plenty of demons and vampires and stuff.
Charlotte and Meier - Meier is a spiffy, spiffy vampire from the new Vampire Hunter D movie, and Charlotte is a girl whom he - well - watch and see for yourself. ^.^
“*several big explosions (the bridge, yanno)” - there’s a bridge in Vampire Hunter D, and it blows up. Hooray for explosions!
“ShuichixDaisuke” - in yaoi/shounen-ai fanfiction, the “namexname” is frequently used to indicate which characters are involved; the first person is usually - um - how shall I put this delicately? Uh - they’re not the ones getting it. And the second person is. Please don’t make me explain that further.
doujinshi - Japanese fancomics; can be found for nearly every series. Often of a yaoi or pornographic nature, but it isn’t a requirement.
Fugutaiten - a rather yaoi doujinshi which I (and apparently Tohru) happen to own, featuring Cloud and Sephiroth from Final Fantasy 7. It’s CUTE, okay?! ... Well, at least it’s CONSENSUAL! Leave me alone already!
Winter Moon - see, in Japanese that would be Fuyutsuki, which is a double anime reference: 1) the old professor person from Neon Genesis Evangelion; 2) the cute young female teacher in Great Teacher Onizuka whom Onizuka likes.
“YOU UNSPEAKABLY EVIL PERSON WHOSE NAME UNDOUBTEDLY CONTAINS ‘ZAWA’!!” - after watching the anime series Gravitation (Aizawa and Kitazawa) and Great Teacher Onizuka (another Aizawa), I formulated a new law of anime: No person whose name contains “zawa” is trustworthy, and in fact they’re probably evil. As a rabid anime fan, Daisuke is undoubtedly aware of this law.
Miyabi - a dual anime and J-Rock reference. Miyabi is the name of both a really evil sucky girl from Great Teacher Onizuka, one of the evil Aizawas, and one of the members of a J-Rock band called Due’ le quartz, who would be okay if they stopped trying to sound exactly like Dir en grey.
“You’ve been overdoing the GTO lately, haven’t you?” - GTO=Great Teacher Onizuka, a hilariously indescribable anime that must be seen to be believed. Anyway, in the first episode some girl makes a deal out of saving her virginity for Onizuka... ^.^;;; Daisuke just can’t be serious for long.
Shuichi’s concert costume - it’s cute - a little black midriff top, yellow jacket, and black stretchpants.
pink wig - Shuichi has pink hair, too. He’s too cute! *glomps Gravi-Shuichi* I get to cosplay him at next Animazement...! Utena has pink hair, too, that’s why the same wig can be used.
“I can always be movie Utena” - in the TV series, her hair is long, but in the movie it’s short. Well, part of the time, anyway.
blond wig - Yuki is blond and has short hair. Give me a chance to find a good pic, and I’ll post it for you...
“Kaachan go boom!/Eeeeks!” - double reference to Angelic Layer, a very cute manga by the female manga group CLAMP. There’s a character who goes by the name Icchan who’s really, really weird and always shows up in unexpected ways, and usually says “Icchan go boom!” upon appearing. (Well, that’s what the translation says. I don’t have ANY idea what the original Japanese for that is.) The “Eeeeks” refers to the main character Misaki, who says that (in the translation), often when Icchan surprises her. n_n;;; By the way, this is totally unofficial, but me and Chiiru are pretty sure Icchan is her dad. Go read Angelic Layer and see if you don’t agree with us.
skintight red suit - what the blond girl from the new VHD wears. ^.^
Yui’s priestess outfit - in the anime Fushigi Yuugi, there are two priestesses, one for the god Seiryuu and the other for the god Suzaku. (Actually, there are two more, but they don’t really come into the story so don’t worry about them.) Yui is one of the main characters and also Seiryuu’s priestess, and she has a really pretty outfit that’s mostly white with blue veils and some blue embroidery. Yoshi’s surprise is a slightly whiter version of that outfit.
“die from accidentally giving a stranger the finger in New York” - sort of an oblique reference to Black Heaven. See, Black Heaven is about an old band that’s getting back together again (well, and also about aliens and a space invasion, but that’s not important right now), and their keyboardist is dead. They thought that he died because an overzealous fan shot him, but the main character’s wife steps up with the real story: He was poking lobsters outside a restaurant, one of them pinched his middle finger, he danced around saying owie, accidentally gave a big black gangsta guy the finger, and got punted through a billboard. n_n;;; It’s a scene that must be seen.
Mr. Niikura and his wine - this is not set in stone, but as a rule, people in anime who drink wine are up to no good. Though in Niikura’s case, I’m sure you could figure that out anyway.
“Call me queen!” - another reference to Bakuretsu Hunters/Sorceror Hunters. What with Carrot’s continual girl-chasing, the two girls who are actually interested in him tend to get a little bit - jealous. And since they can transform from cute teenage girls to hot sexy women with whips, guess what they tend to do when they catch Carrot cheating. XD
“*inches along the floor like Hyatt*” - Hyatt is a character from the anime Excel Saga, which is exclusively devoted to parodying every single anime/film genre on the face of the earth. XD Anyway, Hyatt is constantly on the verge of death, and whenever she wants to go somewhere, she pretty much has to inch along the floor. It’s really, really, REALLY weird.
“*good thing [Richi] knows nothing about Seishirou Sakurazuka*” - in case you hadn’t guessed from the other Seishirou references, Sei-chan is evil. To properly explain, I think I’ll need some

In the Tokyo Babylon OAVs (and throughout most of the manga), Sei-chan seems to be your friendly neighborhood veterinarian, but in actuality, he’s a sorcerous assassin, and he’s only pretending to be a vet so he can get close to the main character, Subaru Sumeragi, who is - um - a cute, pretty, innocent young teenage boy. We’re seeing the Tomo parallels here, right? (Although even with the “killing people” thing, Sei-chan is not nearly as evil as Tomo. At least he keeps his hands to himself. Mostly. Which is part of his and Subaru’s problem, actually. -_- *grrgrrgrr; on a side note, beats Tomo to death with her horrible new scanner*) So yes, all those Sei-chan references from before Tomo revealed his evilness were a hint. A great, big, neon-letters hint.

“Kohaku and Shuichirou from Wish” - Wish is a manga by CLAMP (note: the same four ladies who came up with Tokyo Babylon and X). Kohaku is an angel (sexless - both angels and demons are sexless in Wish, though angels are vaguely more feminine and demons are vaguely more masculine) who comes to earth looking for another angel and becomes indebted to a human, Shuichirou. Anyway, Kohaku spends almost the entire manga trying to find out what Shuichirou’s wish is, and it takes Kohaku and Shuichirou that long to realize that what they each wish for is to be together with the other. (Not in a pervy way, you freaks!) This doesn’t count as a spoiler, because it’s clear even in the first volume of the manga. XD Anyway, it’s a really sweet manga, and you should all get it.
“*dark cloud over his head, a la Zelgadiss*” - reference to the anime Slayers, which is really goofy and only takes itself seriously for the last couple of episodes each season. Zelgadiss is one of the four main characters, and he’s very angsty and serious, so when goofy stuff is taking place he can often be found in a corner with a cloud over his head. XD Poor boy. *snuggles him*
“GRAVITATION!/NOT GRAVITATION, YOU FOOL!” - well... Gravitation is a really, super-cute, adoradible shounen-ai series, but - it also has some major angst. The kind of angst that would give Richi bad, horrible, evil nightmares, and no one wants that, do they? YOU DON’T WANT RICHI TO BE SAD!!!
Fake - a very cute shounen-ai manga and movie. No angst. (Well, there is this one part that’s kinda scary, but since it gets interrupted by the two main kid characters whispering and betting outside the door... XD I figured Richi-kun would be safe enough. Besides, I couldn’t [and still can’t] think of ANY shounen-ai series that don’t have at least a little of that kind of angst.)
Dee/Dee-senpai - one of the two main adult characters of Fake. He’s kind of goofy, like Daisuke, and is totally in love with the other main character, Ryo. n.n I love those two, I need more Fake.
“Miyazawa Toshiro” - this isn’t an actual reference to anything, just an excuse to give Tomo a -zawa name to continue the grand tradition of heinously evil -zawas. XD And why Hong Kong, you ask? Because it’s a cesspool of scum and iniquity, of course. (Okay, maybe not the whole city. But definitely the parts where Toshiro was hanging out.)
Megumi Hayashibara - she did a lot of the songs for the anime Slayers, and they’re pretty cool. She’s a very famous Japanese voice actor and has done a lot of major anime roles, including Lina Inverse from Slayers, Ayanami Rei from Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Tira Misu from Bakuretsu Hunters.
“*puts hand behind his head in traditional gesture*” - in anime, whenever people are embarrassed or trying to avoid talking about something, they’ll often put their hand behind their head. Why do they do this? It’s a mystery.
