At first, Agent Under Fire didn't appeal to me. The controls were difficult and the game just wasn't fun, but after playing it for a few hours, it sunk in. The new Bond game is a huge step from the N64's TWINE. James Bond 007: Agent Under Fire was developed by EA (Electronic Arts), which I think is the only mistake in the game. Why would anyone let EA develop a Bond game? Besides the fact that EA made it, the game is pretty decent. The most insignificant part is the controls. When you first begin game play, you're bound to struggle with the controls. Everything you learned from Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and The World is Not Enough can be forgotten about when you play Agent Under Fire. The control isn't exactly bad, but it's awkward. You use the R-Shoulder to fire with and the L-Shoulder to scope in on your opponents with. The Z-Switch takes off or puts on your silencer for the pistol you use. Then the A-Button is used to reload with while the Z & X-Buttons are used to jump and crouch. The C-Pad is used to side stepping and aiming your gun. Then of course, you use the control stick to move with. It seems almost instinctive to use the A-Button to fire your gun, but in Agent Under Fire you use the R-Shoulder. This is the first big accomplishment to master. After that, you need to get used to the way you aim your gun. It's not that hard, it's just different. In one of the racing levels, it is terribly hard to get used to the controls of the car. Again, almost instinctively you want to hit the A-Button to drive, but instead you use the R-Should pad to drive with. The A-Button fires missiles. So as you can see, the major downer of this game is the default controls. Now that that's said and done, let’s speculate the advantages of the game. Graphics Definitely the prettiest part of the game. Video games are getting to the point where you don't even have to say that a game has good graphics. If you look at the Playstation 2, Xbox and GameCube, you won't notice a difference in the graphics, sound or anything, it'll be in the games and the hardware. Watching someone play Agent Under Fire is like watching a movie. The cinematic scenes are gorgeous, just as well as the game play itself. Sound The sound, especially when you play it in surround sound, is absolutely amazing. Like I said, when you're watching it's a movie. Bond theme music jumps in and starts playing when you complete certain tasks. Gun fires, characters talking and moving, explosions; it's all perfect. Replay Value For not have been playing too much multiplayer, I can still say that this game has potential to be played over and over again. The best part of multiplayer is escort mode. In this you can take two teams of 2, and snipe each other out of buildings. The goal is to kill the other teams VIP. The VIP is a guy that comes out of a train. Your objective is to snipe him out or run up and shoot him. In other words, just kill 'em! Now it gets more complex. After you kill their VIP, your VIP comes out of the train and the idea is to protect it. Playing escort is a blast and you could very well do it, enjoyably, for hours. I have yet to explore this game more, but I can still get a good taste of what the game is like. These are my impressions on the game. Play it for yourself, it will be fun. Grab a few friends, get a big screen and some surround sound, and you’ll be set for the entire night. Any past Goldeneye and Perfect Dark fan will probably like this game, but will still have to face a small challenge of adjusting to the controls. If I were to rate this game out of 10, 10 being tops, I would give it a 9. |
