Fahrenheit 451 By: Nathan Anderson “The difference between the man who just cuts the lawns and a real gardener is in the touching”. This quote represents that a person who is just using a machine to cut the lawn isn’t really experiencing the full joy of his lawn. He is just merely cutting it and is done. Unlike a gardener who puts care into his work. Puts several hours of work into it as well, in the end he feels he has worked for his achievement. This can be applied to Montag because he starts out the book as a man who simply burned books and never gave a thought about it. But, once he met Clarisse, he began to think. After this thought he realizes what he was doing before was nothing. His becoming “a gardener” sparked thoughts and curiosities. This led to several events that required him to think, and do actions that he would not do when he was simply “the man who just cuts the lawns”.
