The characters in Final Fantasy VIII are a big step up from the last one. As the facial expresstions are more visible, they are a fine work of art.

Seifer is Squall's rival who is always taunting him to fight. He is a candidate for SeeD but never gets in because his ability in the listening deparment is not as satisfactory as necessary. Seifer actually praises Squall's abilities but still regards him as a rival.

Qusitis a top-notch member of SeeD who is Squall's instructor at the garden. Being a SeeD candidate at the age of 15 Quistis she now is an instructor who teachs and guides many students at Balamb Garden. She sometimes has frustration coping with stress.

Rinoa is a spirited young woman who is part of a so called terroist group against predident Deling. Her beauty and personality can open peoples hearts and cheer people up at the worst of times.

Zell is a garden cadet who is skills with martial arts. Zell wants to be like a his grandfather who was a great soldier. After entering the garden from the age of 13 he can sometimes do rashional things when angered.

Selphie is originally from Trabia garden but transfered to Balamb to become a SeeD cadet. She can catch anybody of gaurd with her personality and then counter attack. Being usful on your team.

Edea is a powerful sorceress. When Galbadia attacks a nierbouring country Edea is normally at the bottom. She will not hesitate when she wants to kill someone and will do it personally.

Cid is the headmaster at Garden and is in control of which students are worthy and tough enough to be members of SeeD (The Garden Mercenary force). He takes certain interest in Squall's abilities and sees him as a kind of second in command even though Xu is. His leadership and experience comes to light at the best of times.

Laguna was once a Galbadian soldier who with the help of his friends Kiros, Ward, he managed to escape from an estharian base nearly losing his life. He now has gone back to his hometown, Windhill, to look after his niece ellone (elle).
