A stout race of cave dwelling demi-humans. The dwarves are squat and powerful, both men and women, and they don long thick beards as symbols of status. Of late the dwarves have formed a close kindship with humankind. Humans have been allowed to visit the outermost caverns of the dwarven mines, and much knowledge has been passed between the two races. The dwarves are master miners, and expert tinkerers. One would be hardpressed to find any dwarf who was not good with his or her hands in some capacity. Dwarven weapons and armors are the finest in the lands, and it is an honor and priveledge for any non-dwarf to own such items. Due to their familiarity with hard labor, and work, many dwarves take to the field of battle as though it were second nature to their kind. Numerous drinking songs refer to powerful figures in dwarven history, who fought fierce battles against different creatures in the nether depths of the earth, and they have been known to stand alongside humans in several battles. It is well known that the dwarves hold an unparalleled hatred for the orcs, due to their like choices in habitat. Recently the dwarves, under the leadership of King Mogrim Hammersong, have successfully purged many areas of the deeps of the orcish threat, sending the green-skins to the surface.
Dwarves are very resistant to poison and disease, but cannot swim, and so are very vulnerable to drowning.
