"Millenia have passed since I have seen you. Our Father has forgiven your indescretions, as it is his nature. We are but fragments of the encompassing wonder that is He, and as such, I have not the resolve to forgive your treachery. You, my twin. We of same face, voice, and touch. We of same love, same pain, and same cause. The heart that beats in this chest, differs greatly from that which pumps in thine. I can feel your hatred...your lust, your greed, your evil... And I know that you can feel my pain, my sorrow, my torment. You, brother. I shall bring down the fury of heaven upon you. May our paths never more be crossed. Let our swords alone assume that task.
Love Everlasting...
May you know it in death,
Sabastian."
-The Final Letter of the Archangel Sabastian
Beginnings.
Originally, there were two. The twins. One at the right hand of the Father. His charge, to protect the peoples of the earth from the undue pains and suffering caused by the agents of evil. And one on his left to enforce his word, and reinforce his teachings. Sabastian, dutifully stood at the right of the Father, and Maximus at his left. The brothers. Second and third of heaven's most extraordinary choir of angels.
The Archangels were the living embodiment of all aspects of the Father. Each of them smaller representations of himself. The keepers of the all-encompassing power he could provide. There were 19 of them, their power decreasing in order of decendence. Sabastian and Maximus were the two most powerful beings in heaven aside from the Father himself, and their word held almost as much weight. No living person today is sure what exactly caused the breach in their commune. And as Sabastian will not speak on the matter, and none have seen Maximus since the incident, it is doubtful that that information will ever surface. It is said that through the machinations of his predecessor, Maximus was pulled into the darkness with the askance of a simple question, a proposal, and an agreement.
The Culling.
At the instant of his turn, Maximus' entire countenance changed. His once magnificent gleaming wings convoluted into deep black masses of shadow. His face contorted into one which can only be described as that of sin. His already incredible powers increased nearly tenfold, and he immediately began the slaughter of his angel brethren. The lesser angels found his amazing power overwhelming and nearly all were destroyed within the a moment of their extensive lives. Several of the archangels were able to fight him, but his power still proved to great, and they two were destroyed. It wasn't until he set his blade to the throat of his own twin that the Father intervened and cast him out.
The Search.
Stripped of much of his angelic quality, Maximus is said to stalk the earth in search of something to restore him to his former greatness. His lust for power is unmatched. Equipped with his angellic mind, and infused with the very essence of evil, he balks heaven and is able to remain anonymous among the peoples of earth. His twin, Sabastian, unable to control the rage felt over his brother's indescretions stepped down as protector to search the very edges of the world and destroy the slaughterer of his brethren. At the moment of his recession of office the dark warrior appeared, and took the power of crimson.
Angels are the beautiful winged children of the Father. Their nature is that of complete and inherent good, however, since the culling very few are thought to even exist in either heaven or on earth. They are said to be total embodiments of the Father, and as such they control much of his power. Little else is known of them, besides what men have learned in short encounters with the Archangel Sabastian, and even he admits that he has yet to meet any of the newest angelic chorus.
